  1. I'm pretty sure that this was AFTER Can't was founded. I think this may have been the original group of AK-Rowdies!
  2. If LeBron were a Zip right now.......the Cavs would SUCK!
  3. It won't matter in a few years when there will be pleanty of seats to move into....
  4. No. They spread it out over a couple days. The earlier you donate and longer you've been a season ticket holder, the earlier your selection.6-10-09? Lee Adams must be a cheapskate? I just mean do you get an opprotunity to select a seat for whatever seating choice you bought i.e. reserved, general admission, priority reserved, family seating etc... or is select a seat only for those high rollers?Priority Reserved, Reserved and Family were supposed to be "select a seat" general admission is just that, get there early on game day for the best seats. You just save some dough by buying all six tickets at once. Thanks!WEll, I'm cheap, but I've been a season ticket holder since 2002 so whoever guessed that $$ means more than loyalty is right. I've got to wait until the 12th to pick my seats. I'm in the Family section (Cheap) but apparently I get to pick my seats....who know. I can't go anyway so I'll have to phone it in.
  5. You know I'm sure a lot more people will say they were there than there really were. Stayed the whole game and had a great time. Akron Clinched a trip to the MACC and there were about 100 people to cheer them on.
  6. Well, I wasn't around in the 60's so I can't help you there, but I do remember in the early 90's during a HS football game when a meteor rolled down across the sky. I lived near Sandusky and I figured it landed in Lorain county somewhere. It actually landed in New York, it was HUGE!
  7. I'm with you here. IMO, winning the MAC East means nothing. You'll probably go to a Bowl game, but if you can't win the MAC, you're not worth anything in the Media's eyes. Got to Win the MAC to even get a little respectability nationally. To be honest with you, if it weren't for the Stadium this year, I would be as excited as I was last year about Football, which I wasn't. Last years team really did have a shot to go far, but screwed the pooch every chance they had (Except at Can't). I hope we aren't falling back into the "How can we lose this thing" mentality we had during the LO years.....
  8. Both Harris and Montgomery failed at being head coaches at their last jobs. Also, Harris appears to be here primarily because of his connection with JD. I am curious how JD managed to pull in Okruch (pronounced "Oh-crew", which makes me want to call him "The O-Crew"), though.Yea, I know that Montgomery and Harris were head coaches at other programs and weren't successful, but that I don't think that keeps them from wanting to give it a go again. When was the last time an Akron assistant coach stepped into the HC position?
  9. What I've done in the past, with varying levels of success, is to Blow the logos up on the computer and print them out. I think make some paper stencils by cutting out the blown up design and taping them together. Next, I put spray adheasive on the back and then spray paint the logos. If you aren't careful, you will get some overspray, but I made my giant "Fear the Roo" magnet which covers my entire tailgate this way, and it turned out great. Hope this helps.
  10. Am I incorrect in thinking this is just the line forming behind JD so when he leaves in a few years, we have another HC ready to go? I didn't think the Stadium would be this tempting to other coaches.
  11. I've had 3 customized Zips license plates, and I have never tried to get ZIPSRIFL..why? Well, "Rifle" is a banned word in many areas and I'm pretty sure it wasn't going to make the cut on a plate. I also can't use my normal screen name on Ohio.com to comment as "Rifle" is not allowed not to mention several other places. On a related note, I'm thinking about donating my old Michigan plate to UofA. At the OSU game I saw where OSU fans did that...thought it was pretty cool. I didn't have much competition for the plate "GO ZIPS" in Michigan.....
  12. Okay... seriously? how many times is this going to be posted out of sheer ignorance? I think by now we get it... its going to be SIMILAR to whats already in place, however that statement doesnt say exactly what it will be. Is this really that big of a deal? It's a playing surface. Regardless of what it is, i just want some kind of surface for our team to play on. Let's just stop posting this and be slightly more intelligent like I think we all are (or at least should be)Does anyone know what kind of playing surface they are planning on installing as of today?Zipmeister123 Sheer St.Ignorance, GeorgiaActually, I've decided to make a donation to UofA in the form of a 100% natural Dandelion playing field. I will take the hit and put everyone's mind at ease as UA will install whatever type of turf was intended for the new stadium at my house, and I will give them approximately 1,362,431 dandelions and a little bit of grass.
  13. But they'll still complain.I heard that UA will be spending 65 million dollars to build a 30,000 spot parking deck next to the stadium with 4 lane access to the highway so that fans can all together avoid walking through campus while still being able to get into, and out of the game in less than 3.1415926 minutes.
  14. I like that spot, perfect!....So how much do you think it would take to put a UA athletic banner put on the Can't State Urban Institute building on that corner?
  15. I'm starting to see your angle...maybe we could add a catchy marketing line like:"Browns Fans - If you liked Ken Dorsey, you'll love this guy!" Or maybe "Jacquemaine for Heisemaine"?Or "The Best QB in the MAC...Until the 4th Quarter"Or - "Not Walt Harris' Fault"If you don't like slogans, just make certain to have a giant Matt Rodgers Fat Head ready by about week #5.No way you pin your marketing hopes on Jacquemaine. That's like basing your retirement on winning the Power Ball.Well done! The funniest post on here in quite some time! NICE!
  16. This will be my 16th season of watching Zips Football and I have NEVER seen a home game sold out. I have been absolutely, 100% convinced in the past that I would see a sell out a the RB and it NEVER HAPPENED. I'm not even going to think about expansion until we have 3 sold out games in a season.
  17. They got quite a bit of field work to do before they get to laying the turf. But, per our resident posters who took the tour they said they'd start working on the field the end of April. equipment on the north end should be gone relatively soon. They're nearly halfway done, if not farther, with the brickwork. All this work recently is really making me excited!!Thanks for the info.It looks like they're closing in on finishing the brickwork on the endzone facility from the top where I can see the brickwork from the cam.I'm thinking a lot of that equipment will be gone by next weekend.Wow, that brick work look very nice! This stadium is going to be FREAKING AMAZING!!! Nobody, I mean NOBODY in the MAC will even come close to this place!!! I'm really getting excited!!
  18. I've tried to do my own work in the past. I've not had good results with fabric, however. I think, technically, a buisness can't put any Akron logo's on a canopy without paying royalties to UA and maybe the NCAA. I'm sure you could find someone who doesn't know that rule though. Now, if there are 3 of us on this board looking to buy canopies with Akron logo's, how many others are there, and how much money could UA make off of this........
  19. I think I said it earlier when that website of Grant pimping himself was posted on here, the kid was a solid MAC linebacker, and a decent player for us, but nowhere near NFL caliber in terms of talent. He should've been getting ahead in the real world these past few months instead of wasting his money on websites and at some sham "training facility" in Miami that preys on kids like him. Best of luck to him in life after football.I think the same thing. However, given the current job market he has just a good of a chance of making the NFL as he does getting a real job.Good point.
  20. I found this on the Can't bbs board. Really? Just because Akron's bigger party school...there probably is some off-campus element that ruins it.I remember when we used to have those huge block parties with nearly 100 kegs around Katherine place. They were great for a few years when everyone from school came and had a great time... and even when things got rowdy and a few fires got started. But in later years people came in and start a lot of shit for the sake of starting shit, and it pretty much all had to end.Yea, things were pretty out of hand at UA in the mid 90's. A few years ago my wife and I were in Akron for something and there were cops everywhere but nobody else. As we were leaving the city we both remembered it was May Day. Do the police just gear up for practice now or what?
  21. I'm guessing you hate UofM, but if you can put that out of your head Ann Arbor is a really cool town.
  22. We are dealing with 18 year old kids here. I know when I was 18 I didn't have the perspective to ignore a big time prospect and focus on improving myself for the best possible outcome. I wasn't even that athletic and look at the talent these kids have....they must have HUGE heads! I guess this is why Zeke is so refreshing for all of us. Really, it amazes me how stupid my goals in life were when I was 18 when compared to now. I didn't have the slightest clue about anything.
  23. I added some new and older pictures of the stadium. They are atInfocision Stadium.Scroll down to see the latest photos with the new dorm foundation work. (Latest pictures are 6681-6704. I cannot get the older pictures to move to the beginning for some reason.)You should post this link on Urbanohio.com. There are about 557 treads an the "Major Construction" going on in Cleveland, and two or three about the construction in Akron. You know, who cares about $100+ million dollars worth of construction in Akron...... May I suggest this link???http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,9375.30.htmlOh, and this is the best summary of ICS construction out there IMO.
  24. Though I haven't been to a soccer match in about 10 years, I'll have to get one too. I think this could be one of those unique UA things.
  25. Wow, I'm impressed, I don't know if the students would have been asking those questions when I was in school. I was suprised by the "Akron going Green" element and also the "Campus Crime" element. I've seen a few people mention that crime is getting worse. Back when I was on campus in the '90s, if you were in the main part of campus, no problem, the UAPD kept that place in order. Only when you wandered out of campus did you run into some rough areas. I suspect that because campus is expanding into downtown, the student population is growing, and the economy is bad that crime is growing. We had a campus student security service back then, was a great idea, except nobody used it. They would walk with you across campus to your destination at night. They had radios to the UAPD, but people are too proud to admit they need someone to walk home with them. Here is a thought, maybe UA could expand this program (If it still exists) and get the students in the Police Academy to participate. They could make rounds through campus and give reports back to UAPD. They could get class credit for participating in the program for one semester, and I'm sure a few of them would get hooked and be in the program for quite a while.
