  1. I wouldn't be suprised if they dropped the ball, but I hope they don't. Does anyone know if the team shop will be done by Sept 12th??
  2. The coaches will want the scoreboard (more specifically, the clocks) operating in time for practices.Figure they'll also be putting up the poles and nets to catch the extra point and field goal kicks? Two of the coaches bought wrist watches so the scoreboard clock will not really be required for practice.Would it not be beneficial for the clocks to be in the approprate locations so the players can becaome accustomed to them? I figure that is part of the home field advantage. The reason they use the clocks during practices is that so all of the coaches can see at a glance how much time is left in each particular drill. With 120 or so people spread out around the field doing all different things, a couple of wristwatches aren't enough. But hey, why waste an opportunity to make a snarky remark. Some people on the list apparently live for it.hah, sorry BZ, but I somewhat enjoyed his snarky remark. It wasn't enough for me to laugh out loud, but it curled a lip.Lighten up please. Life is better that way. KthanxIt was not intended to be a snarky remark but a legitimate question. I'll be sure to use the approprite smilie face next time <------ (Snarky Remark) What is "Snarky" anyway? A Snarling Shark?
  3. They asked all the incoming freshman to stand up and Zeke was so much taller than everyone else they didn't notice the rest?
  4. Good point. Most athletic department websites I see are run either by CSTV or nmnathletics. Both are pretty crappy.I think GoZips.com should be hosted by the university, not outsourced to a subpar contractor. A few grad students from the Computer Science department could design a better website in no time, and keep it up to date.I wouldn't doubt that the "Bigger Schools" don't have these problems with the same service. We pay the same as they do for the service but because we are "Small" it apparently doesn't matter.
  5. considering the current condition of the hill in question, I seriously doubt anyone is going to be sitting, let alone standing on it. 5500 is probably just physical seats available.Agreed! I thought I read on here somewhere that they weren't going to do sod because it would get ripped up so easily, but exactly how are you going to get a good grass base to grow in 2 months starting in July? Those guys with the grass seed sprayers should have been in there MONTHS ago!
  6. I think right now, I'm going to wait for the Tailgating info to come out. I've looked at the aerial maps of 14 and 34, and I agree 14 has the edge w/r to location, but 34 is larger, more nearby green areas (though small) and more of what I remember as being on campus. I hope they do something cool for people who want to tailgate and we aren't relegated to the parking lot behind the art building.

  8. Personally I love the Requiem for a Tower music from the "Akron Psyche" video prior to BB games. That rocked and I think we should make that our own...no lyrics though.
  9. Are you referring to the one where we were up by like 28 points in the 4th and almost lost or the one where Cribbs marched them down the field and won on a last second score?
  10. Couple more boxes have been hoisted into place. Think we'll have a scoreboard by weeks end?
  11. A thing of beauty it is! It would be nice to just sit outside and listen to the opposing MAC fans as they walk up to this gem. Far and away, the best stadium in the conference!
  12. Yes, there appears to be something up there. I imagine there are a lot of things that will be put in place prior to the actual scoreboard as it will be easier to do it sooner rather than laters. How is the sound system supposed to be? I hope it's killer!
  13. Yea, I like Zeke the more I learn about him. Seems to be very grounded, which is refreshing.
  14. I'm sure the chapel could get a premium price from the U. for their property and in this economy could buy some land cheap to build a new church to spec. It would be hard for them to beat their current central location w/easy rte. 8 access though. Which of course is why it would also be a good spot for an arena.I also like the south of exchange idea just because it would mean a couple blocks of slumlord housing would have to be cleared. That's the worst aspect of our campus, most vulnerable to crime, and biggest deterrent to potential students, IMO which is why I voted thusly. Logistics would be the same as with Info, for better or worse.I also don't have a problem with a downtown site since the U. needs to have symbiotic relationships with businesses, the city, and hospitality/entertainment zones anyway...not rigid separation.I would like the CH site to remain academic, preferably for a new library/archives/media center to replace Bierce one day.The JAR would still be useful for a lot of things like basketball/volleyball practice, team gathering space and locker rooms for events at the field house, existing classrooms & offices...Good point about CH. Imagine if they built a new library there and tore down Bierce and turned it into green space? that would look really nice!
  15. You know, we have a great opportunity here to create one hell of a tailgating lot. Parking is going to be chaos on Sept. 12th, and everyone here seems to be thinking ahead. We all get there early, and we set the tone. Grass will be at a premium, but we won't be that far away from the practice field. Is there anything we can think of to make Akron tailgating different from the rest? I'm hoping that the band will march through campus before the game to the stadium. If there are enough of us at lot 34, what are the chances that we could get the band to start their march there? Maybe we have all the people with flagpoles park along one edge of the lot? Maybe the Oldies set up in one area and the students in another area? Maybe we purchase a couple of extra spots and setup a cornhole tournament location. I don't know, just thinking here....
  16. If we go undefeated for the next 5 years and suddenly need to expand to 60,000 seats, it can be done. Now, I lets work on the undefeated thing and see how they expand to 60,000 seats.
  17. Odds are it's either a "vanilla" practice, or the cams go dark. Some of the players were running some routes in the stadium about a week ago or so. The frame rate of the camera is too slow to pick up anything of interest to anyone.OH, so you're saying it will be like watching the BB games over the internet....got it!
  18. You know, it's really a shame to see these kids get hurt so bad in their 20's. I hope this doesn't linger for him.
  19. I think it should be immediately to the East of the JAR. It would be on campus and I think we should have all of our athletic facilities in one area to keep things easy for fans year round. I also think they should then tear down the JAR and make it gree space.
  20. Yea, I'm getting very concerned where I'll tailgate. It seems that since Schrank won't be available, I'll likely be joining everyone in lot 34 bright and early. I still would like to tailgate outside the Rifle Range so we can cheer on the Rifle team if they have a Match on Gameday. I also don't want to pay extra for a special lot. Indeed, it looks like UofA is dropping the ball here....
  21. Last time I checked, we were winning the MAC Athletic Facilities arms race by a wide margin.
  22. I saw those. I was wondering if maybe they were over to the info today and wanted to hang some banners. Now that I think of it, how much money could have been made by having a scrolling advertisement at the bottom of the stadium cams webpage through this entire process. UofA could have probably made a couple grand....
  23. Yes, availability of Akron products is horrible. I was visiting Michigan Tech (in Houghton, way up in the U.P.) about 4 years ago. They are a D-II school (except for Hockey). I walked into their team shop and it completely put Akron's to shame in a Big, Big way. There is no excuse why UofA can't put more merchandise out there for fans, they apparently just don't make the effort. I agree, this needs to change. When I walk into the new team shop, I expect to be able to get my hands on ANY of the Akron merchandise they have online anywhere, not just on the UA online store.
  24. Apparently U of A is one of the most efficient U's in the nation, so we could pony up a bit.So we should become more inefficient?
  25. So does it matter that when I do a google search for "zip" I see nothing Akron related in the first 15 pages?
