  1. I couldn't disagree more about the PD. I felt like the MACC coverage was first rate. The Toledo win took more front page space than CSU's win @ Hinkle on the same night. The PD didn't send Elton to Portland, but there were stories, sometimes 2 a day (Livingston), and they had Daryl's diary.I get the PD, not the ABJ and I'd say I was pretty happy with the coverage.Well, to each his own. I'm one of those people who read everything online and is putting the newspapers out of buisness. I simply felt that the MACC coverage came across as a necessary burden for the PD because it was being played in Cleveland. Also, I thought the writers didn't have a clue about the MAC. I mean, someone said that they didn't think Linhart deserved the MVP. That statement right there, in my mind, underscores how little these guys understand the teams. Sure, looking at the numbers, Nate didn't have the best, but I think his leadership of the younger players and his hustle and style of play was a big reason the Zips went as far as they did.BTW, good win by CSU last night. Always glad to see an upset. Man I would love to play those guys.
  2. it looks really empty because it is, but you also have to remember that due to safety reasons, they have to keep at least every seat from the firing point extended and forward empty. Actually, aren't we using this as a template for the new UA range???
  3. that might get us in trouble lol.Lets just say he came to UA for a tour and as he walked into KD's office, LBJ just happened to be there shooting the bull with his former coach. LBJ says something as he leaves like "You know coach, I can see why Akron is bound to be an NCAA Champion in the next four years...." Concidence right?!?
  4. I actually heard that the JAR was to be rennovated in the next couple of years. Personally, I think we should fill the JAR first before shelling out more cash for a BB arena. I also think the Soccer team should get a new stadium, and maybe we could update the Shooting Range so it is of a "caliber" that is fit for a National Champion.
  5. You know, I don't think I realized how divided NE Ohio is w/r to college BB until recently. Call me blind, but the ABJ did a hell of a job playing up the Zips this week while you wouldn't even know Akron was in the Tourney by reading the PD. I'm really beginning to think that the people in Cleveland are out to squash anything good in Akron. The CSU fans hate us because we are a threat to their local BB superiority (I would love to play them to settle that score). The OSU fans I think are starting to get bitter with all these NE Ohio teams going to the Tourney every year (Can't State, UA, CSU). I think this "bias" will be something that puts a damper on drastic increases in attendance next year. In terms of fans, I would expect a small jump in attendance next season at the beginning of the year. If I remember correctly, football season tickets spiked the year after we won the MAC, I'm thinking BB will be the same way. I also agree that as this team continues to improve, we need to schedule tougher. Bottom line is that KD seems to have a knack for building this program and that is what we need to do to put more butts in the seats.
  6. This is going to have a HUGE impact on recruiting! IMO, this is the spark the Rifle Team needed to believe they can shoot with the best and bust into the championship match as a team. I still can't believe she won. I know many are probably going to think this is crazy, but in my book, this is WAY, WAY, WAY bigger than the BB team winning the MAC tourney! Now...where's the article in the ABJ??? It's not every day UA crowns a NATIONAL CHAMPION!!
  7. I can't say enough about Buffalo's fans. You guys were great. I think late in the game you were down by 14 and had just started your run. I was amazed as you guys were screaming like you were down by 2! I was also very impressed with how well you traveled....great support for UB! It seems to me there are too many pretentious fans in the MAC...at least to Akron. The Buffalo fans don't fit that mold. I like the way the competiton between our schools is heating up! Very classy post!
  8. WOW! That was awesome. I feel best for Nate. As they went through the All MAC Tourney team, they weren't calling Nate's name and I was really starting to get pissed cause this guy is the heart of it all. He TOTALLY deserved to be MVP!!!Normally, I pride myself on being a good sport but.....Hey Can't....put this in your pipe and smoke it!!!!MAC BB CHAMPS!! The dynasty has begun...you'll will be Akron's whipping boy for quite some time!!!!!
  9. WOW! WOW! WOW! I have to tell you, I never, never thought I would see this day come!! I knew the Rifle team would someday produce national champions, I just figured it would take another 10 - 15 years! Congrats Jenna! You have made many, many Akron Alumni PROUD! LOOK FOR THE GUY WITH THE AKRON RIFLE HAT ON TONIGHT!!!
  10. Hell Yea!!!! I'm not a BB guy, but dude, I'm there tonight. Leaving here in a few minutes! Got my Zips Football MAC Championship shirt on for good luck!!!
  11. SO WHO'S THE GUY THAT DECIDED THE ZIPS ZONE BROADCASTS WILL END AT 12:00! 0:53 LEFT AND THE BROADCAST IS CUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Hmmm. Even though I consider myself too old so socially network, only the first half of those criteria apply to me.....
  13. Can someone who is good at photoshop have zippy shooting down the falcon (pheasant) on the tombstone?
  14. Sorry dude, went to the BUGS site and I have to say that I think the original was funnier.......I call 'em as I see 'em.
  15. Dude, I did turn the game off. We sucked and I was sure there was no way we could put it together. Only when I heard the sports guy on the TV in the other room mention Akron and OT did I realize what happened! WTF!?!
  16. So I'm doing homework here, with the game video on the monitor and no sound. I'm not kidding, every time I look up, somebody is shooting free throws. Why don't we just have a free throw contest and see who wins because that is what this appears to..... another whistle......that is what this appears to be.
  17. Not impressed, frankly. Doesn't seem to be any discipline with trying to get good shots.
  18. Can we shoot something besides a 3????
  19. Hey, he could give the halftime show!
  20. I believe those earlier remarks were made in jest. However, is there anything new to report on what UA plans to do with the Rubber Bowl?Oh, thought they were really bringing in the light poles from the RB. You know, to bring back some nostalgia. When blogging on fan sites it's had to tell sometimes when someone is jesting or not. There's nothing of value to bring in from the RB. The goalposts are even rusting. The plans are to demo the RB once the Info is done. The RB is an emergency back-up right now God forbid something delayed the Info being completed in time. But. per Curtis office via the ABJ beat writer I converse with. The Info is ahead of schedule despite the bad weather and fans will really see them pick up the pace in the coming months as we near Summer.Really?! I did that good a job of BSing?! I mean, have to admit the light poles were pretty convincing, but the troughs from the bathrooms were a dead giveaway. I mean, if they tried to get those things out they would bring the entire concrete wall with them! Seriously though, I heard that to save money they are going to take the old scoreboard from the RB and incorporate the display from "The Spirit of Akron" for the new scoreboard at ICS!
  21. I believe this is a sewer trench they ran to the north endzone facility. I could be wrong, but considering they are doing sewer work on Spicer, it's a logical guess. I also believe that is gravel and not cement seeing how it appears something has already driven over the top of it.That's trench line for the sidelines. That wouldn't run a sewer line for the enzone facility directly under field and surely not that close to surface. I believe that is the sideline trench for field drainage.Phew! I thought they had poured footers for field-level light posts!!! Not a chance. They're installed the supports for lights atop the press tower and according to design there will be light towers in the endzone corners atop the hills and light towers behind the east side stands. The Rubber Bowl was the only Div 1A or FBS stadium with field light poles. ESPN always made habit of pointing that out on games they did there. They couldn't move the lights behind the stands due to the airport. They had to lower the middle light poles due to the airportThey won't make that mistake with the Info.Actually, because of some of the cost over runs, several things from the RB will be used at ICS. The light poles are one thing. In addition to this, the FAA mandated that they remove the light poles at the RB so it made perfect sense to use them at ICS. It knocked about $120,000 off the price of the stadium. Some of the additional cost saving measures are that they are going to be bringing the concession equipment, Press Box furniture, bathroom troughs, and bleachers from the RB to ICS.
  22. I voted Buffalo. For me, personally, I really hate Miami, but I just don't think the hate goes both ways. I think we're just a bunch of thugs to them and if we beat them every time we played them in every sport for the next 10 years, they would still think they are better than us. Buffalo on the other hand, they are starting to come around. Ruined the last game at the RB, have been tough in soccer and were pretty good in BB this year. I'm planning on making the trip to Buffalo this year for the FB game so they are starting to move from a whipping boy to a rival in my mind.
  23. That's a good point but anymore everything is based on prestige. In the long run, it hurt's graduates when they have to go through the same coursework/projects that any other kid at another more prestige school does, and then they are still looked at as inferior to the student from the other school.Sure, Akron grads are known in the region, but how about in Cali? Or even other parts of the Midwest? Although these ranking systems are bogus, we have to cater to them somewhat. If we don't, UA will never be respected as much as it should be by people who matter(employers, grad schools, etc.).Answer this:Since the college ranking systems started, how many schools managed to make among the top ten in research revenue in the country and still failed to make the top one hundred schools? I thinks it's time UA becomes more selective.I would argue that in the Midwest, Akron is actually looked upon very highly by industry. For example, in the recent Dept. of Energy Challenge X competition, UA was among a very selective group of schools chosen to compete. IMO, they stuck out like a sore thumb because they didn't have that big name recognition. It was a 3 year competition to build a hybrid vehicle that was judged on various aspects. The first season UA did very well! I understand that UA students took a much different, and riskier approach than their more prestegious counterparts. I was not involved in the project, but I think someone on here was.... As a result of this, UA actually had the highest percentage of students hired into GM of any of the schools in the competition. I also heard that for the next DOE competition, UA was also approached to compete, but turned down the offer. I also have to say that the number of UA grads working in Detroit has dramatically increased over recent years and the graduates are looked very highly upon. I'm sure UA isn't a well known name in the West but in the Midwest we are definately gaining traction.
  24. Personally, I think those rankings are worthless. I was my senior year at UA, I picked up a publication at the library which ranked the top Engineering schools in the Country. I think it was the top 100 schools, but it may have been the top 50….I can’t remember. Regardless, the point is that year, in three of the four SAE Engineering competitions UA entered, we took 1st place. I think one of the main reasons for this success was that there were a large number of “Non-traditional” students in my classes at the time. Lots of guys who were mechanics, came out of the military, or worked in factories prior to going back to school. We all learned a lot of practical things from these guys and I think that was one of the reasons we were so successful over more prestigious schools. Put me down as someone who doesn’t want UA to be more selective, I think it works to UA’s advantage.
  25. This is really great news! I feel that the team has been on the cusp of getting into the National Championship matches for about the past 5 years now, but can never get a break. I think that Jenna is just the beginning! As for the range, I too would love to see a new one, but don't see this happening any time soon given all the recent construction. Newt has been doing a really amazing job of upgrading the existing range with what little funds he has.
