  1. Oh, one more thing, I don't see the "Silver Lining" in the same light. I fear that our O-Line is REALLY bad and the D is slightly better than last year.
  2. That's gotta be tough to beatout 2 guys who have a year on you, and are battling for the starting spot. I think Hakes probably had some offers elsewhere to be #1 next year or possibly this year. If that is the case, it was a good choice for him. As someone mentioned earlier, he needs more than 1 year as QB.
  3. Actually, I'm kinda pumped to be in the Dawg Pound! I was kicked out of my endzone seating at the RB, so I'll take these seats!
  4. Actually, though the article wasn't perfect, I think it did a good job of saying "You need to see the new UA". In general a good message. With that said, I kinda feel like Pluto's message was a bit strong....Kinda like: "Who cares if UA is putting all the effort into this stadium, it's not theirs, it's the city's, so once it's built, don't hog it!" I understand Pluto's message the UA will do more good by letting everyone in the city use it, and show the people of Akron what UA has become. The other comments are simply in there as an effort to keep from pissing everyone off. We get pissed because OSU gets a lot of coverage, but I'm sure Can't will be pissed if UA gets more coverage than they do. The recruiting was not used in a good context.
  5. Well, you guys have taken care of the AU reference. As for Kasparek's #'s, I agree he is under utilized. I can't remember which game it was in Detroit (NIU??), but he was carrying people downfield with him. I attribute a lot of his lack of getting the ball to the fact that Luke didn't like to throw over the middle. On 2 occasions he was wide open in the endzone, and the first time, Luke threw to someone else who was covered, and the second time, Luke threw it over his head. Hopefully, Jackson will go down the middle. I think this guy should be getting the ball a LOT more.
  6. I remember someone suggesting this. If I remember correctly, I was one of the people who thought it was cheesy. I still think it is cheesy, but have no problem jumping on the Akron Band Wagon.
  7. Wouldn't it be something if they did go to the MCB and lost to either Akron or Western twice!
  8. Was it the concrete that is used for the canoes? If I remember, that stuff isn't especially hard.
  9. Well, rocks are pretty heavy, so it could still be rather small compared to it's current size.
  10. I agree with Skip that this won't happen any time soon. IMO, this is simply UA and the Mayor's office posturing for the public. The JAR is not falling down, and it's not filled for every BB game. IMO, when it starts to sell out, this gives UA an excellent chance to start making some $$ and charge more for tickets. So, in the end there is no plan for a new arena, both sides know this, but both sides can look like they have been toiling for weeks to come to an agreement.
  11. Zen, put some red eyes on that thing, that would look sweet!
  12. You guys alwasy spol my suprises. I will have to wait probably 2 more days till my tickets show up in Michigan. I am usually one of the first ones to renew my season tickets so hopefully I'll have some pretty good seats for the Cleveland Game!
  13. I think it looks like crap! Whenever I see it, I wonder what the hell is wrong with it's head. Fear the Roo is still relatively new, why change it so soon, let it sink in more.BTW: UA could make a KILLING in baby clothes if they started a "Fear the Poo" line! My kid actually has a prototype!
  14. Well, apparently not, but I'm concerned. But maybe I should be more concerned with the QB getting the ball to them. You know, it's been a while since we've had a bad QB. Butchie, Nick, Charlie, Luke....all pretty good. I think we're relatively spoiled. Charlie was great, but I always thought Butchie was under rated.
  15. Maybe they should have a contest to see who can guess the actual size of the original rock. Then, they can do some exploratory drilling to find it's actual size.
  16. http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPS...&ATCLID=1148550Sounds like Jabari is starting to make some pretty nice plays. This is exactly what we need, a standout receiver! Excellent!
  17. I'm pulling for Charlie. I would love nothing more than to have another successful Zip in the NFL. With that said, I won't feel bad for the guy if he doesn't start. He is worth Millions and is playing at an elite level. He's already made more money than I will ever dream of making and has done something that most boys dream about. As for BQ, I don't think he will be a concern until late in the season. He's missed a LOT of practice time and being the rookie, he needs to adjust to the NFL. I do think he will play late in the season if the Browns aren't winning though. People in Cleveland want a Savior like LeBron for the Browns and BQ is the flavor of the season.
  18. I think we should beat Army, but I'm not going to saw we will. All in all, I give us an edge because of the location and because we're probably a better team. With that said, I don't give us much of an edge and we better show up in Cleveland the same way we showed in in West Lafayette 2 years ago.....THAT was impressive how prepared we were.
  19. So does this mean we can't rip out the bleachers over the next 2 seasons? Seriously though, what else could be done with the place other than tear it down? If we had to put $500,000 a year into it to keep it up, what else can it be used for? Just tear it down and be done with it. Even sell parts of it to fans like me so we can have a piece of Akron History.
  20. I for one will not try to convince anyone that I am an expert on what goes on with the Zips. If we knew all the details about what was going on, then wouldn't the opposing team know just as much?? I think forums like this are an excellent way to keep fans somewhat informed and grow excitement about the team.
  21. I agree that Western should be favored in that game, though nobody from Indiana will want to admit it. I sure hope Akron is able to pull off a win in Indiana. I agree 100% that Akron needs to beat the Mid-Majors and the bottom feeding major teams before I consider us a solid Mid-Major. If we want to convince kids to play at Akron who are also recruited by schools like Indiana, then a win would help out a bunch. If we're 2-1 after Indiana, then I'll know we've got a shot at winning the MAC.
  22. HOLY COW!! Some of you guys are REALLY OLD! In the spring, the one thing I remember walking back to Grant from Robs was that when walking out of the buildings you would brace yourself for the cold wind. You would take a few steps, and then realize, it wasn't coming. It took me probably 2-3 weeks to shake that reaction. I always tell my wife when we go back, and I step into the Engineering buildings, I get a knot in my stomach and start to worry if I've gotten all my homework done.
  23. There are some programs that justify multiple centers. Buisness, Teaching, Nursing, Computer Science, Engineering are all in high enough demand that multiple colleges should support such activities. What I am referring to is a school supporting a program that has relatively low attendance. Though I did not get a degree in Paper Engineering, I'm sure there are some synergies with other types of engineering that a more engineering intensive school, such as Cincinnati could perfom at a lower cost. Specalties such as this could be focused at one universtiy and broadcast to other universities. You would not need to change the school you attend, rather, you would be able to take these classes via the internet at your local school. BTW, as an Akron Engineering grad currently working in the auto industry in Detroit, the overall program is lacking. OSU, U of M, MSU, Kettering, etc. have much better facilities than Akron. IMO, Akron's mix of "non-traditional students" in addition to well run student engineering programs (SAE, Challenge X) are what make up the difference.
  24. Isn't the Option kinda a '90's fad? If it works, hell, use it. I remember how Ohio embrased the option, and they gave people FITS the first few years. Then, people figured out how to defend it and it quickly fell out of fashion. Does the O-Line look like it can run block? That would be something novel. I would love to see Akron smash it up the middle and get the yards when we need it.
  25. I know nothing about the man, so please don't take this the wrong way. Do you think someone who busted their @$$ in a rubber factory for their entire life and was a season ticket holder for say 50 years would get a mention on gozips.com if they died? Doubt it.
