The timing really sucks .. but there's not really a way they could have avoided this conflict. My guess is the planning for this preceeded the Tribe Clinching .. and the playoff schedules weren't set yet. I'll make a deal w/ you CK .. you take good notes & report back tonight & I'll post a daily update from Fairbanks next month.

It's precisely this type of thing that will prevent this from ever really getting legs. Someone posted a comment that said that Proenza didn't have much to say about it .. because there wasn't much to talk about. This article was 2+ weeks ago ..My guess is that this will ruffle some feathers and get beat down by the public / universities if (you say Finger) I say Hut ever gets close to actually implementing something like this. It's doubtful to me that this magnitude of a change could be pushed through quickly .. meaning another gubenatorial election will happen before this does.

Frenchy-n-Stams Sound-a-Likes

You may want to upload all the clips to zipsnation .. I get access denied errors on all the clips except the Frenchy call that you uploaded here. -
I must say I agree with arguments on both sides of the issue .. but generally come down in favor of this downtown arena concept. Some general thoughts:- Regardless of current attendance, improving the JAR has merits, both short term and long term. Short term, continuing to improve facilities for ALL teams remains on the task list for Mack & company. There are some things that can be done to improve fan experience and such also .. and not all of them are enormous capital projects. In the long term, the JAR will remain the home of Zips volleyball, likely women's hoops and other events. So it needs to become & remain a grade A 5500 seat facility. It can be that.- The downtown arena concept is intriguing because it offers the potential for getting a bigger home for the Zips without UA having to accomplish the project entirely on its own. In fact, a commitment from the U will help the city / county perhaps take the driver's seat on the project .. minimizing the funds required from UA (minimizing .. not eliminating). The city wins because it provides a year round venue in Summit county that hasn't existed since the Colloseum was blown up. The local businesses get more stable since their foot traffic won't be as dependent just on baseball game nights as it may be now. Done correctly, it can really be a win, win, win scenario. The chicken vs. the egg dissmissal (we don't need an arena until we're bursting at the seams) only goes so far for me. We only have to look as far as Jacob's field to see a case where the ingredients were there for a successful move w/o first having long term sustained success on the field. Hart & company had laid the groundwork and had an improving club prior to opening the Jake in 1994. The novelty of the new stadium combined with the product on the field came together to throw things over the top. The table was set .. and the stadium helped close the deal with the fans .. who then jumped on board entirely. The Zips hoops team is fast ascending the ranks of D1. Relatively speaking, they're way ahead of where the Tribe was in 1993/94. The teams ascent is certainly happening faster than the attendance. Waiting for the attendance demand to exceed the JAR might be waiting too long. Now we do have a huge capital project underway, and that should remain the top priority. But I disagree with the sentiment that KD needs 3 sweet 16's to justify thinking & planning for the future. If the local government interests are looking to pursue something soon .. the U should be a part of it .. even just as committing to be a tenant.Regarding size .. I think that's a good size (10k) .. I wouldn't go any bigger than 12. Some monster national powers in college hoops do quite well with smaller gyms (Duke for example) .. so there's no reason to bite off more than that. A top-class 10-12k seat arena will translate to any future conference affiliation for the Zips. It won't freeze them out of a jump up in the long term. It just needs to be a great facility.Regarding location .. that spot seems ideal to me. It's sandwiched right between downtown and the U. It's walkable from the U .. and close to downtown businesses. Any handwringing about parking is wasted energy in my mind, as that can be solved easily w/ a well placed garage or 2 (or expansion of existing garages) .. parking is a non-issue in this conversation for me.Bottom line for me is that when KD & the Zips blow the lid off this program (and they WILL), we'll need to at least have formulated a plan for the future that the fans can understand. That will overcome any dislike for the current facility.Get 'em on Zips fans!!!

Thanks.Within the next week or so, I'll be putting up 2 additional style choices. One will be similar to this one, w/ the roo background, and another will be a re-creation of the old dark blue & gold that we're all used to.At the bottom of the page, you have a choice as to which one you want to use. -
Attention ZipsNation Members:Please be aware that there may be some scheduled downtime during the evenings of October 3rd and October 4th for a planned upgrade to the ZN.O softare & system. We don't believe this to be a long outage, but the board will need to be shut down temporarily to perform database management & upgrades. We will do our best to contain this outage in the late evening hours so as not to disrupt the board topics. While it is down, please go vote for Zippy. Thanks for your patience.

UCONN Message Boards & Game Day
Zip Watcher replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Some more thoughts on the near campus revelry:I've been gone from there for about 12 years .. so I know a bunch of stuff has changed. The campus has undergone a transformation similar to what UA has done in recent years. Sometime around 1993 or so, the state passed a $1 billion capital improvements package over 10 years for UConn & it's branches .. yep that's a "B" .. so it's a pretty nice new place. As for the drinking .. the bar options are suprisingly few .. as mentioned above. This has mainly to do with the nature of the on-campus life there (not dry at all) .. which at the time minimized the need for lots of bars. That being said, the few that are there will be jammed, so be prepared for tight quarters. On campus, there are 2 standards, as mentioned above: Teds & Huskies. My personal favorite was always Teds, and everytime I go there .. that's where I stop. It's a laid back bar .. not a pub .. not a club .. a bar. Huskies has more food options and is probably a better bet for eating if you want that (before dark). It was always a little nicer (+$) than Teds when I was there .. and that's where the rich chicks hung out .. but it is bigger than Ted's also.Ted's & Huskies are on the north end of campus within a few hundred feet of each other.A year or so after I left, a new place opened up on the opposite side of campus, Husky Blues .. but as I did a search for it, I find that it closed ... but my search revealed this:Storrs Nightlife descriptions & directions. The schmedley's link goes nowhere .. so it may be closed also .. never heard of the place. The tavern mentioned above (The Bidwell) is also a GREAT place to go .. good beer selection, a little older crowd, no clubbing bs .. really a good place. Just not on campus. As for food, there is only one place that I think of when I'm in Storrs:Click Here for Willie Pie!!! Mmmmm...Best pizza I've had anywhere that wasn't Luigi's on N. Main or Danny Boy's in Rocky River. It's about a 10 minute drive north of campus .. and pretty big .. so you can usually get in there.Football was a campus afterthought and not a common activity while I was there (and the team played on campus) .. so I can't comment about any tailgating traditions.Have a great trip & time .. Go Zips! -
Who is that guy?Must be Studley Do-Right!

What game was Can't coach Doug Martin at?
Zip Watcher replied to ZipAnalyst's topic in Akron Zips Football
Great post.Ditto for IU-Purdue & UMass-UConn. There's no situation that calls for the rival to be supported. Now when Can't faced IU in the NCAA a few years ago .. that was very tough for me. -
11:45 PM on Sunday night .. And Zippy is in a dead heat w/ the Hokiebird .. need a late push to put this one away Zips fans!.

What game was Can't coach Doug Martin at?
Zip Watcher replied to ZipAnalyst's topic in Akron Zips Football
I must say it's a tough decision .. but this will be one week I hope the CBus team pounds their opponent. No injuries hopefully .. but a beatdown after a demoralizing rival loss wouldn't hurt. -
.. right .. our approach has been to just try and keep it in its place ( the off topic forum) .. so that it doesn't run over into the other game related / team related topics. Not sure if it worked or not ..

We'll gladly take nominations for some new Moderators. It would help things a bit to have more people keeping an eye on things. As it stands, we have only 4 .. we'd like to hear suggestions.

You asked a question. The Captain looked into it .. and gave you an answer. The GoZips.Com roster is still dated 19 August, which is before the context in which the Captains information was given (the 22nd by your list). So the official roster hasn't been updated since 19 August .. and there were no pregame notes for the IU road game (to the best of my knowledge). It's not like there was a roster saying Moore was gone and CK was ignoring your post .. the last information anyone had was that he was on the team .. and that is what happened.Threads are RARELY locked here. I bet it's less than 20 in 4 1/2 years .. and there's usually a good reason for it.The Moderators here are all the same. We're all trying to give you a good forum to discuss all things Zips related and get answers for your questions. All for a pretty reasonable membership fee. Honestly .. no one has an agenda here. Only a few people have really earned any limitations or significant critizism as to their postings. You're not one of them. Lighten up .. you're not being persecuted.

We're talking football here, right? Not hooops in 1986?IU sucks .. always has .. always will.If UA can shutdown the flagship .. they can do the same to the loosiers.Zips 20Loosiers 12Go Zips ...oh yeah .. IU Sucks .. just like :screwks:ZW (buckeye by birth, Zips fan and Boilermaker by the grace of God).

After hearing at the golf outing how big this kid was .. it seems he might be the odd man out numbers wise at the forward spot .. seems that might be a possibility (redshirting that is).
-
A hunch tells me this is not a long term problem. It's my understanding (not exactly current) that he's enrolled at UA and will play for the Zips. No indications that he's left the U or the team.

Frankly, I just continue to be embarrassed that the title of the thread is not spelled right .. it's hard to take a soap box rant seriously when the guy falls off before he starts.
