  1. Thought so ... Welcome back.
  2. Hey '82 ... have you ever seen this:Screw Can'tScrew OSUScrew Cleveland.I'm an AKRON fan ..... and damned proud to be one.
  3. Ummm .. yeah .. I don't think I'd call this generic.I've had the opportunity to see some hurling matches in person .. and it's awesome. I'd say it blows any sport away as far as the toughness required to be good at it. VERY cool stuff. And when you see it over in the Republic .. there's no pansy helmets or anything .. they're just out there going at it w/ the hurlie & sliotar.I will one day get down there .. and I want my boy to grow up playing this game too .. have to find a way to fit it in.
  4. So long as they're just walking around the field playing John Tesh arrangments .. it won't really be interesting. The dude on the corner playing a sax w/ a monkey generates more energy than a strolling band.
  5. Beating Wake Forest on the road when they are number 1 in the nation will go a long way to help the seeding in the tournamet. A 2 win weekend would be huge for the Zips.
  6. Was that the total number of legs in attendance?Or total number of toes?Cause it couldn't have been people in attendance.
  7. Hey .. what happened to your website? wasn't it "akronceltic.com?"When I go there now .. it seems it's no longer there. Are there anymore weekend matches this summer?

  9. Some extremely brief notes & I'll post a more detailed list later:- I don't detect any worries on the part of the coaches as it relates to the PG position. There's certainly an amount of leadership and game decisions / last shot aspects that they're looking to replace w/ Dru's departure .. but when asked, all felt that they were in pretty good shape at the PG position. I heard nice comments about both Ronnie and especially the progress Steve has made.- I asked about the bigs ... seems the redshirt did Bardo well. They expect him to contribute this season. Sounds to me that Swiech is a pretty hard worker. It's my understanding that Steve spent 2 5 weeks sessions on campus working on his game & especially his conditioning. Everyone had great things to say about his committment level and effort.- I was told that Nate came back much stronger this year than he was at the end of the last.- All reports are that the team is in great shape health wise heading into the fall season.- I love the fact that the coaches know exactly where each player is academically & how they're all progressing towards the degrees. The academic shape of this team is pretty good. Guys are graduating & staying on top of that aspect of things.- Apparently no more Scooter Taylor on the road broadcasts ... .. he's moved into Development.More later .. but I've said it before and I'll say it again: Put 'em on Zips Fans!
  10. Well the same guy puts CMU at #2 based on 2 transfers and a couple of freshman to go w/ Watson.Thinking about Bardo / Swiech .. I think these guys are going to split the minutes at the 5 pretty evenly, with some of them going to C. McKnight .. this opens Wood up to be the 4, with Quade & McKnight filling in at all 3 front court spots .. Then with Linhart / CMcKnight / BMcKnight / Conyers .. you have a stable of 3's .. some of which can swing down to play the 2.Depth abounds here .. lots of guys to fight for minutes .. the PG spot is the real unknown.
  11. It lasts til 5 posts or when I get the time to go in and manually promote you back into the Members group. What was your old userID .. and what exactly happpened? Someone knocked it off? Or has it been compromised?Let me know if I can help. We're in the midst of an upgrade, but I can look into it if you like.
  12. Would you trade J. Wood for Bill Robinson?
  13. As an engineer, and a business owner I can only tell you one thing w/ regards to your points above.I don't give a rats a$$ about USN&WR rankings .. they're meaningless.I wouldn't hire an engineer from Columbus St. .. simply wouldn't. I've worked with a few throughout my career & they're average .. even mediocre. They spend WAY too much time telling everyone where they went to school and why they're awesome .. and not nearly enough time getting the job done soundly and efficiently. Same goes for CWRU if you really need an engineer that's practical, well rounded and fundamentally sound.tOSU nerds can't carry a UA engineer's jock. UA is probably the best kept secret in the midwest when it comes to producing quality engineers.P.S. I was never a student at either UA or tOSU
  14. The topic was moved because it doesn't relate to Zips football with 3 pages of debating some other team's offseason and RB stable.Feel free to continue your discussion here .. NO ONE is being silenced.
  15. Terry Pluto apparently is moving to PD if you believe the sports talk hacks in Cleveland today. Not sure which spot he's taking, but he's leaving the BJ.Could help widen the footprint of UA if he brings his feel good angles with him to PD .. don't really see how this hurts the Zips. .. may not help .. but does it hurt?
  16. Click here for season preview.Someone else please read this and tell me this guy even watched the Zips play last year. I'm not going into specifics until all have had a chance to read it .. since I don't want to give early bias to your read.Predicted as #95 in country and #3 in conference. My guess is that UT and OU are rated higher .. though I'm not motivated to really figure that out.
  17. After 2 Sweet 16's in the next 4 years, it will be obvious .. and fast tracked.Folks asked why someone like First Energy or others aren't prominent in football stadium .. and hoops is what I think. Naming $$ go way farther on an arena that is used year round for more than just UA events .. plus aren't the First Energy guys with ties to UA big hoops fans?
  18. Not sure why all the hand wringing about a log jam at the point. We just lost a 4 year starter. We've had some nice points over the years .. but this was our first STABLE hold down of the position in a while. We certainly aren't overflowing @ point, even with the Humpty signing. While he does appear a good talent .. he is not rated as highly as Steward .. yet. There are 13 scholi spots .. so if I consider that, I think having 2 top flight pure points makes tons of sense. With 13 scholi spots, I think you isolate about 6 to the guard positions .. at an absolute minimum 5, with a swing man (2 / 3) mixed in.So inside 5 scholi spots, I think you have 2 pure points, and 2 shooters .. and maybe one crossover / combo guy. This year we have: Steward, McNees, Middleton, Dials, and I would argue Conyers as a guard. That's actually 1 pure point (Steward), 3 crossover guys (in our current league) in McNees, Middleton & Dials ... and one big guard not suited to play point .. Conyers.Next year we'll have 2 pure points (Steward & Hitchens), 1 combo (McNees) and one big guard (Conyers). It remains to be seen where B. McKnight fits (2 or 3?) and Roberts is an unknown at this point. If Roberts is in the mix and capable, maybe we'll see Humpty redshirted, which would give us 2 year overlap from Steward to Humpty .. and a really smooth transition at the point, with capable talent ..To me, that's not a logjam .. that's another step in establishing consistency and depth in the program. The thing we all need to realize is this: The days of having 5-6 solid D1 players, with a bunch of role players to fill out the roster are OVER. We're now at the point where our 13 scholi players are *almost* all solid D1 mid-major or higher talents. And we have walkons who had D1 offers.I can't find any way in which this is a bad thing.I wonder .. is there a Burger King in Chillicothe? Must be, right? This has enormous possibilities. Put 'em on Zips fans!!
  19. Digital Underground comeback anyone?
  20. My kid LOVES Humpty .. he's going to love seeing Humpty, Zippy and Jimmy (big Hoosiers movie fan) at the same time. Nirvana!
  21. Can someone in attendance shed some light on all the renderings that were on easles? There's only 7 shots on the web page, but it seemed like there were many more at the press conference.Would sure like to see all those renderings from HNTB.
  22. Isn't it BOTH?It looks to me that below ground level, there are seats on both sides & the grass in the endzones .. and then the grandstands rise above ground level .. slightly on the east, and more on the west w/ the press box.Seems to me the lower section is a bowl .. seats not all the way around .. but this isn't the Doyt or anything like this.. when you enter the stadium, the field appears to be below grade, right?
  23. To say nothing about how insulting or presumptive it is to suggest a handicapped kid would even CONSIDER being a flush fan.
  24. MODERATOR EDIT: I have removed 2 of these that I think are of dubious taste. If you want to linky them up to something else .. fine, but I won't have those 2 live here at ZN.O
