  1. I am a hundred and sixty-eight zillion years old and I like the new unis.Gulp. Guess I'm not a traditionalist.
  2. Feels good to watch the Zips playing basketball again.JCU was a scrappy, tough opponent who played to win against long odds. John Carroll is picked by the mediato finish second in their conference. That is high praise.First the good: the kids mesh well playing Dambrot's crazyquilt player match ups. The shooting percentage was in thestratosphere (58%).The not so good: hardly any assists and barely out reboundeda shorter team. The bad: free throw shooting was atrocious. (56%).The ugly: turnovers. Twenty-three or was it twenty-six?Which ever it was is unacceptable.Gilliam and Harney proving they belong on the court.Good games out of the starters. How about Kyle Peterson? Last man off the bench in mop uptime knocks in five points. And Tree's dunk rattled the rafters.
  3. whats the difference between the band and 1000 students with noisemakers on corner and free kicks close to the box? Isnt fan support via making tons of noise part of the game? Im against the band playing while we're on defense, but when we're attacking, we need to make tons of noise so the defense cant communicate... thats just my opinion since thats essentially what we do already sans the band.Good point. caveat please: We were attacking and the players were trying to communicate as they attacked when the drums drowned them out. The play fizzled.Personally, I believe the players love to hear the Rowdies and other Zips fans voices.
  4. No body is kidding no body! In my book, Ignorance is defined as the situation when some one is so arrogant to think that his opinion is absolutely true and that he knows it all and he can judge others. Gozips is saying that more than a billion people in this world support a religion that fomented hate and treachery and doing that, the religion survived for 1400 years! He is also saying that the academic system, and the administration of Can't state and the education system in Ohio are wrong and he is right. Also the Ph D holding gentleman is now a piece of crap because he doesn't share his point of view about the political state of Israel. A wise man once said: whenever i debate a wise person, I may win or lose the debate. However, every time i debate an ignorant, I lose the battle. So sure gozips, you're not wrong! everyone else is.I find your response offensive and full of lies.Frankly, you owe me and everyone on this board an apology.I did not attack you. I stated facts. Hinduism and a number of otherworld wide religions have existed longer than Islam or even Christianity.Certainly Judaism is the better part of 6,000 years old. Yet, none of thesereligions strap bombs on their children to go murder innocent people.None of them advocate the violent over throw of other religions. Islam does. That makes Islam hateful. Are there innocent, decent people who practiceIslam? Yes, and sadly they must wear the mantle provided by the teachers and leaders of Islam. A man holding a Ph.D does not necessary make him a good man. A man whodisrupts, lacks respect of others and shouts hate filled remarks is for all intentsand purposes EVIL.
  5. Who is kidding who?Islam has fomented hate and treachery through out the world for 1,400 years.Israel is a current popular target of Islam. The blame for terrorism and hatredrests squarely on Islam.Political correctness allows this piece of crap to hold on to his job a Cantville.Had he spoken against blacks or homosexuals they would have fired him inless than a minute.Popular targets for evil are Christianity, the Catholic Church, Conservatives,Pro-Life, anything that represents goodness, a black man who is a Conservative, fair play, justice and America. How long would the occupy wall street demonstrators be allowed to foist theirviews on the world if they were the TEA Party? Done in a New York minute.
  6. The 2011 men's soccer is simply not running on all cylinders. The talent is present and at times shines. Still there seemsto be something missing. Like heart or passion. What we are often seeing is way, way, way too many "through"balls as opposed to control and possession. A past hallmarkof Porter led teams has been the "death by a thousand passes".All to often it is a few passes then a long through ball often to"nobody home". Looks and is ugly. The Zips play without patience and without good communication.Plays are passed too weakly or passed late and often not at all.Indecision runs rampart. Players fail to come to the ball and stand and watch. With all these flaws there is still usually an opportunity to win.In most games the Zips lead late only to cough up a tying or winning goal as in overtime. Or, the sorry case against MichiganState.Think back; we give up late goals with just a few minutes to play.Wake Forest tied the Zips with barely three minutes to play.Michigan State scored the game winning goal with less than four minutesto play. We can point out several other games as well. And, there is a reason, an obvious reason. Our kids are playing ontired legs. Realize that Porter is old school and does not like tosubstitute. Michigan State substituted freely in the minutes leadingup to their game winning goal. Fresh legs. The argument goes, "our defenders just did not get back". Of coursenot, they were playing on tired legs and the attackers were on freshlegs. The solution is simple: put in fresh defenders late in the game toprotect our goal and possible lead.
  7. The band was annoying.Worse still was the band freaking playing when ever our playerswere attacking the opponent in the box. Communication is lost.Leading to missed opportunities.Time the racket for when play is not close to them.
  8. Frankly, NO.I was not there. I previously posted what tidbits I managed to glean.Suffice it to say that the Zips put a hurt on EKU 38-10 in the first half played. The two teams played three halves and three 12 minute periods.I have no stats other than 38-10. All the Zips saw action and all played well.Coach Dambrot was pleased with the performance. The coaches always findthings that need improvement. What these were was not mentioned to me.I talked to coach at ZipsLive radio show. Come join the fun.
  9. I wonder if Jeff Neubauer, head coach at Eastern Kentucky, would change his vote after the shelling EKU took in Akronthis past Sunday.
  10. This better not be a shot at me.I talk to the coaches all the time. However, I never mentioned anythingthat the lovely Nicole posted. Nor would I. I just sat back and watched. Her business is her business.Besides, I'm not a snitch. Maybe that person or persons meant well.Just rest assured that I am not involved.
  11. It sounds as if you've cooled off a bit on Nick Harney? Not in the least.Harney is coming along quite nicely. Consider that Nick is a first year college playerwith a lot of talent and no experience. Quincy Diggs is an experienced third yearplayer who has proven himself on the court. Thus, Q deserves to start ahead of Nick.My point is that Nick Harney has a huge up side and will own the small forward inthe future.I am not Keith Dambrot. Nor do I have his coaching experience. I can discern bothQuincy and Nick's skills. My personal analysis is that Harney has as much or moreskills as does Quincy. Now, take nothing away from Diggs; he can play. Plus, Q hasgame experience at the college level. It would be foolish to put him behind Harney.I have stated many times that I would love to see Quincy play the sixth man becauseof his personal skill set. Q is adept at three player positions. That is rare. Being ableto play two positions well is a talent that most players can not do.It is not entirely skill set another important factor is can a player handle being thesixth man? I can not answer whether or not Quincy can. In my opinion I stronglybelieve that Quincy can do it. But, does he want to?It takes time to "get it". Diggs gets it. Both Treadwell and Harney are not there just yet.
  12. Wow, you sure put a lot on the plate. What this exhibition game amounts to is an opportunity to play against an opponentthat is not on the same wave length as your players. Meaning: our player can notpredict what the opponent will do. Thus, creates plays that our players have torespond to.Zeke Marshall is a load. He has "manned up". Zeke will own the middle most of the time.Zeke had seven blocks against Eastern Kentucky as rumor has it. EKU is a lot tougherthan JCU. Alex is our starting point guard. He has worked exceptionally hard during the off seasonto get stronger and have more endurance. He owns that position. He is a heck of alot better at the point than last year's starter. There are at least two other men whocan handle the point. Both Brian Walsh and Quincey Diggs can handle the point just fine.Additionally, both Deji Ibitayo and Blake Justice can handle point if called upon. Lestwe forget, Nikola Cvetinovic also has actually ran the point in real college games. Not to mention that he played point guard on the Serbian team that won a gold medal. The new guys are learning the system and mostly absorbing it well. At this time do notexpect any of the new players to break into the starting line up. In time, some will.Nick Harney and Demetrius Treadwell will both be in the rotation and get plenty ofminutes. Expect both freshmen to snag red shirts unless we lose a back court player.Expect Egner to back up Zeke. His role is critical because Treadwell is not up to speedjust yet. Remember, both Harney and Treadwell are freshmen who sat out a year.Their day in the sun is in the future.Chauncy Gilliam will ably replace Brett McKnight. Book it. Think we will miss Bardo's strong defensive performances. This is the area that Josh has to cover now.Michael Green is slowly playing his way into the rotation. He can flat shoot the ball.Frankly Mike is a back up player that we need.Quincy Diggs is going to have a break out year. He plays his butt off. He works hard.Best of all, he cemented himself into a bonafide three ball shooter. Will he keep his coolin games? Not sure. Have not seen him lose it during practice. Time will tell. Most people on this board know that I hope to see Q play the sixth man because hecan play three positions well. His shooting and dribble drives will impress. He waspretty good last year. He is a boat load better this year. Wait until you see histhree ball jump shot. SWEET. Do not worry about "senior" leadership. Nik and Bret will deliver. Better still, thisis Alex Abreu's team to lead. Alex is up to the task. Give him a chance.
  13. SPEAK, that scrimmage was closed to the public per NCAA rules. Here is what I learned today. Coach was pleased over all with the kids.Akron "won" the first half 38-10. No other scores were mentioned. The two teams played three 20 minute halves and three 12 minute periods. All the players we expect to be in the rotation played well. Additionally, Greenstepped up better than expected which may cause coach to extent the rotation. There were not a lot of details provided. Thus, I can not tell you stuff that I did not hear about. Coach mentioned several players by name and did notspeak negatively about any of them. All comments were positive. As tight lipped as Dambrot was, Kest made him look like a magpie. The ladiesscrimmaged St. Bonaventure in the JAR Saturday morning. Her commentsbasically were, "we are pleased with the ladies play."
  14. Good ideas. Now, what is your plan to pay for it and maintain it once it is buillt? If we build it strictly for basketball, we'll never be able to pay for it even if we put in some high priced luxury suites and sell them off to local companies. But if we build it to host many different types of events then we can rent it out. Concerts, ice skating, monster truck rallies, and all sorts of crap like that.As soon as I see the word "ice" I get nervous.Any arena large enough to house an ice rink is too damn big for basketball. The university needs a new. larger, better basketball arena. It does not need anything that houses an ice rink.An ice rink is the kiss of death for basketball. It simply does not work at the college level.
  15. I'm not Sam Cherry. I do not like Rob Ianello. I think that we should all remember the Titanic.
  16. +1A couple of excellent ideas. No way should the University tie in with the city of Akron on an arena. The current mayor is hell bent on a minor league hockey team. We needa true basketball arena better than CSU's poorly designed convo.Any money, even the new player lounges is pouring money down a rat holewhen spent on the JAR.As a stop gap, converting the bleachers to chair backs along the length of thecourt would be a help and not overly costly. The four corner pillars support theroof of the JAR. Thus, nothing can be done with the corners.Think about this: Adding an extra row of seats in the lower end zones by replacingthe existing seating with ones that rise steeper. Then, make this the home ofthe ROWDIES and guests at both ends. No blue hairs allowed.
  17. I have asked several people if they are "gozips". I usually get "no" for an answer. The chessy mustache gives me away every time.
  18. Saturday practice starts at 1 PM.Remember, meet the team is at five.
  19. Steve has been attending Zips practices of late. Had a chance to talkwith him. He is hoping to catch on with a Developmental team.Good Luck, Steve. You earned it.
  20. Division two Seattle Pacific DEFEATS pre-season sixteenth ranked Arizona 69-68.Fortunately for the Arizona Wildcats it was only an exhibition game. AU had tons of helpfrom the friendly PAC-12 officials who saw phantom fouls, no see-ems, and variousother aids for Arizona who still managed to lose at home.Either you take care of business or you get beat. This was a great example. In fairness, SPU is favored to win their conference. What gets me is the Arizonabroadcasters bragging up AU's pre-season ranking and at the same time whiningabout how "green" Arizona is. Their coach, Sean Miller pleaded the same whineat half time.
  21. +1+1 unless we are expecting some transfers out.And who might that be?These kids are all aware that they have a special opportunity this season. Not likely anyone is going to leave. Championship and NCAA tourney ringsare hard to come by (except on e-bay).Bright and Ibitayo were expected to red shirt from the beginning. If a problemarises mid-season a red shirt can be "burned" easily enough.
  22. Our offense can't control the ball to save it's life. I can't recall one long drive this season that wasn't aided by some inane penalty or mistake by the opponent. The Zips are the Get Well Card for the MAC's downtrodden. Look for a bad CMU team to be the latest in a looooong list of D1 opponents to thoroughly drub Rob Ianallo's team on it's home field. The MAC has figured it out - stop Chisholm and the Zips are done. Its gawd awful that the Zips coaching staff has not figured this out.
  23. Berlin, Ohio or Berlin, Germany?
