  1. So, you are NOT getting a string of commericals for Summa Care, Winking Lizard,AK-Rowdies, etc. Instead you are getting the list of other topics you can go to? HmmmI just once again cleaned everything out and I still have the stack of commericals. What gives?
  2. GoZips.com modified their home page. Where there use to be a list of other topicsthere is now a string of commericals. I am finding it difficult if not impossible to get to pages I want to look at. Anyone else having this problem and/or a solution?Per their tech support I have cleared my cookies, etc. several times. No dice.
  3. Recently I heard one of Cleveland radio's esteemed talking butts, er, heads, espousethe idea of "think how great the Brown's would be if "we" could get Troy Smith and TedGinn in the next draft." What a maroon. How can anyone in Brown's Town not respect and love Charlie Frye? Have the Brownshad a QB since Otto Graham leave it all out on the field? Not Kosar, not Sipe, not anyQB since the great hall of fame Otto Graham have the Browns had a QB with this moxie, guts, smarts, toughness.Charlie is some team's ticket to a Super Bowl. Unfortunately, its not likely to be theBrowns. They are just too inbred to recognize greatness. Charlie does not have that"big" school label. i.e. Ohio State, Michigan, Southern Cal, ND, etc. < insert pukeemoticon here>Charlie you have already demonstrated to those with a brain that you are the QB fit totake the lowly Browns to the Super Bowl. No criticism of Charlie in any manner is valid. The touchdown pass to his kindred spirit Braylon Edwards answered the "arm" controversy for once and always. Weak arm? What weak arm? Stick it, pukes.BTW ... I would love to get Ted Ginn in the next draft. What an addition to the Browns secondary.
  4. "Coach GoZips" being a close kin to the Ancient Mariner having been around about thatlong, has sized up his expectations based on the facts rather than wishful thinking. These Zips are going to be an excellent team this coming year. All the pieces are inplace. Only injuries, grades, and the quality of their play stand in the way of a stellarseason. If, if, if, the kids live up to the hype they will bring much joy to the houseJim Rhodes built (the cheap sucka).Twenty-five wins while not out of the question is a huge expectation. I for one do nothold Coach Dambrot and the kids to such a lofty and probably unobtainable goal.Twenty-one or two wins constitute an excellent season. You need to consider that several of our opponents are in "on the rise" seasons themselves. ORU, LMU to saynothing of preseason top twenty-five Nevada will severely test the Zips.In all likelihood opening the season at Texas Tech against Arkansas-Little Rock is onetough test itself. Beating AR-LR means facing Texas Tech on their court in front of their blood lust fans is by no means a walk in the park. The Zips head home lickingtheir wounds after this battle, win or lose. Let's be optimistic, hopeful and most of all ... patient.
  5. Let us set the record straight. The Leakin' Urinal editorialized through its principal writer, one highlyrespected and nationally esteemed individual that it, the "rag" would make everyeffort to put its local community sports as the prima topic. This lasted less thanthree weeks. The football game between OSU and PSU does deserve front page coverage. On thatI concur. The problem is that that game did not belong as the lead article on thepage. It rated second place. There are just three instances where OSU deserves topbilling. If and when OSU wins the national championship, the Michigan game, win orlose, and any event pertaining to serious infractions of rules or large scope personnelchanges. No other article about OSU merits top billing ... ever, period. This community is Akron. Its core is the University of Akron, not OSU.The principal reason so many souls follow OSU is because for 80 years they have been spoon fed hype coming out of the Leakin' Urinal.MRASOR is an influential writer who defended the said rag. His honor and word werebesmerched because he defended the rag. Thus, he is liable for his defense of therag. He, like the rag, lied to this community. It is his responsibility to call out theeditors. They stabbed him in the back. He better take it personal. If he takes my attacks on him for his organizational failures then he will never amount to a reliablejournalist. He owes, you, me and the entire Zips community a sincere and humble apology. Three weeks ... no way is a community going to change in three weeks. The placement of the OSU story is huge. It signifies a lie.I stated weeks ago that in order for the Akron community to embrace the Zips as theirteam it would take three years of making the Zips number one. After Mass today as I sat in my favorite restaurant I listened as several people openlydiscussed the betrayal. These are not UA students, but adults who live and work in thecommunity. Not one believed that the OSU game deserved top billing. People arealready becoming Akron centric. No one was putting OSU down or making nastycomments. Simply that this community needs its own identity. They get it. Why is itso difficult for the newspaper to understand that it is part of this community and notColumbus? How many papers does the paper sell in Columbus on a Sunday? Enough to justify glorifying the Columbus university? Let us build our community.Support our community. Let Columbus take care of its own. For SGM ... the OSU vs PSU game is more important to who? The people of Raleigh, NCdo not give a damn about either of those teams. Our interest should be greater thanWolfpack fans (congratulations on a fine win), but not higher than our own team.SGM ... you need to have children. Thus they can learn the value of having a child froma different school get praise and compliments from your child's teachers for work thatchild did in the other school. Your child needs to be treated like an orphan so you canlearn the heartbreak. Otherwise you will always be a shill for your opposition. What? We were expecting a miracle change in attendance? This is about instantgratification? That's what bit the newspaper. Three weeks of featuring the Zipsprobably led to quite a few gripes from life long OSU fans about the change. It willtake time to change attitudes. Three weeks is hardly a long time unless you are an ant.SGM .. what specifically did I say to trash MRASOR? I only called him to his responsibility. He writes. He supports the paper. His loyalties lie with making a buck. He is not writingbecause he is an ardent supporter of the Zips. Frankly, I think he took one in the back. The bottom line is simple. You want your newspaper to make money? Of course. This gives you two choices. One, you can continue to focus on OSU and continue to watchyour community and sales dwindle. Two, you can focus on your community. support andinvigorate your community. Thus, ensuring your community will thrive, grow and in turngrow your own business which is to sell newsprint and advertisements. In closing, not once in the past several weeks did I ever refer to the newspaper as theLeakin' Urinal or the team from Columbus as the Suckeyes. You can rest assured that I will revert to my former ways as a direct response to beinglied to.
  6. Well, it did not take the Leakin' Urinal long to renege on its new found loyalityto the community it serves.Hence, no more nice guy from me and I sincerely hope the rest of the loyal Zips nationof fans. The new owners can keep their piece of crap newspaper. Even if they display undying loyality to Akron and its community I for one will NOT buy the rag. That was one lie toomany for me.The Columbus State SUCKEYES are their darlings. Screw Columbus. Screw the sorry, lame, lying editors of the Leakin' Urinal.Liars one and all. So, just stick it.
  7. Do not get overly excited about the up coming men's basketball. While, yes the Zips will have a winning season, and, yes they are most likely headed for a post seasonbid, the overall view is not as rosy as many wish it to be.Why? Because inspite of excellent athletic ability, good shooting skills and well taughtdefense ... the Zips are just too SHORT. Unless six-ten Mike Bardo (a true freshman)is on the floor, the tallest player will be Romeo Travis at six-seven. This will becomeall to obvious when Nevada invades the JAR. The is no substitution for inches. Tallteams dominate. We have no tall. Next year it gets better. But, we are living in thisyear. The Zips are undersized. Thus they will continually see opponents putting tallplayers on the court. Some lesser quality opponents big men will not be able to stopAkron. The better teams will.Throw in a few "off" nights and the team is less than stellar. Oh, do not get me wrong, our Zips will be competitive. They just lack the size necessary to dominate. Spell thatR-E-B-O-U-N-D-S. This is the Zips Achilles heel.My speculation is that a twenty win season would be an excellent accomplishment. Topthat off with a play in round road game in the NIT and you have the season
  8. A little research and now my speculation.Home Games:NevadaLoyola MarymontSt. Francis (Pa.)Winston-Salem StateESPN Bracket BusterAway Tournament:Arkansas Little rockeither Texas Tech or Gardner-WebbAway Games:Youngstown StateNiagaraDuquesneOral RobertsBinghamtonIllinois- Chicago CircleThis is a total of 13 OOC games. Not a pretty schedule or one likely to juice the RPI.While the Zips probably will be an exciting mid-major they are not likely to garner muchif any national attention. Look for a winning record and a post season bid dependingon how the team plays in the MAC tournament. Slam dunking the NCAA is not reallya guarantee at this point. In all probability another NIT bid is the most likely scenario.Due to the high probability of the MAC's one NCAA bid the only sure means to the danceis by winning the MAC tournament. Since the MAC tournament is usually won by the team that is hot going into tournament play, I think the Zips have less than a 50%chance of winning out. Historically since joining the MAC the Zips have always fadedin the MAC tournament. There is a slight possibility of an additional home game against a non division oneopponent if certain events occur. I am not at liberty to go into details at this time. Notice that Oakland University is not on the schedule at this date. They decided to notplay us even though it was a home game for them. At least two other away opponentsattempted to get out of playing the Zips.
  9. The Zip's men's team is headed to Lubbock, Texas to face Arkansas-Little Rock in thefirst round. The other pair of teams in the Lubbock regional are Texas Tech facingGardner-Webb. The winner of each of the four regionals advances to play in KansasCity.Article on CBE Classic
  10. Women's Schedule
  11. Just as the pass rush by the defense is unacceptable so too the lack of pass protectionis killing the Zips. Good, bad or indifferent, Luke Getsy has already been sacked anentire season's worth of sacks.Aside from Luke taking way too long to throw and appearantly not reading the defenseeffectively he still deserves and needs protection. Which may cure a lot of his problems. My suggestions are basically simple. Must pass rushes come from the right side of thedefender's line (left side on the offense). Move Chris Kemme to left tackle. Second, incorporate the left side tight end into the blocking scheme occasionally. Third, run atwo back offense every so often to create confuson, add pass protection and to take heat off the tailback.Having five guys to throw to is not worth much when you do not have the time to find a target.
  12. Agreed. Your points are well made. I saw zero pass rush at the CMU game and somespotty attempts at NC State.I see no problem with the front three not pass rushing. Frankly, in this scheme, thatis not their job. In the 3-3-5 scheme most pass rushes would have to come from the five DB's. Problem is, that leaves you wide open to get burned deep. The solution would seem to be more of a 3-4-4 alignment and russ the linebackers.Either pair inside or outside depending on the opponent's offensive alignment can work.I totally agree that a strong pass rush is badly needed as we enter conference play. The MAC is a pass happy conference. Last Saturday the lack of a pass rush hurt usbadly. This must be fixed if we are to have a successful year.We have quality linebackers and good depth. Let's turn them loose.
  13. Five Duquesne men's basketball players were shot Saturday evening. The shootingscame after a minor fracas at the student union.Five Players wounded
  14. Not even in jest ever mention firing Brookhart.JD got the Zips to where they are. Which Saturday was not very pretty. JD at least showed that he is NOT ready to move on to bigger and better programs. This one stillneeds a whole lot of fixing.Clock management was great. Too bad we were twice in need of clock management andfailed both times. This needs fixed.Who taught Luke to throw into triple coverage. Two INTs including and embarrassing, game changing TD. Thanks, Luke. Thanks QB coach, ooops, that's JD.The kicking game is a work in progress. Fortunately, STEC appears to have turned thecorner and is kicking like a senior.Pass rush? What pass rush? Was Lee Owens the honorary game coach Saturday? Didanyone see anything that resembled a blitz package? That little puke had all day topass or take off running (quite effectively I might add). The Zips made him look likea great QB (he isn't). Were we so afraid of Snead the RB that we decided to take ourchances on our flimsy reputation as a strong stop the run defense? Well, it did notwork. We looked awful.Well, we cured the holding calls. That only led to more sacks. CMU was holding onevery snap. Complaining only brought a sideline warning. When Akron startedholding and thus protecting Getsy the end result was a sideline warning against CMUfor complaining about the Zips holding. touche'JD got badly out coached. Not a little, a ton. CMU had a far better game plan andexecuted it. We paid the price.Lots of positives. First, hats off to Harvey and Arthur for great catches. They made Luke look half way decent. Walter did an outstanding job filling in for the injuredKennedy. Stec continues to improve. Great, fantastic hang time on his punts. The never quit spirit was with the Zips to the end. The onside kick was perfectlyexecuted. Unfortunately it bounced out of bounds off of a CMU player giving themthe ball. Our effort was excellent.Luke is a wuss. He took a fricking knee in the end zone when he ran in the two pointconversion. It sure wasn't to say a heartfelt, Hail Mary of thanks. He seems to havelearned to scramble to his left when in trouble. That resulted in a couple excellentbroken play recoveries. Good job there, Luke. The potential and the talent is outstanding. JD and staff just have to meld it into wins.

Sick people will be hog tied to the rear deck for the returnride.Contact me via the personal messages portion of this board.Go Zips
  16. This video simply confirms what JD told me last Sunday. That the Akron coaching staffreviewed the play at least thirty times. And, Kennedey scored every single time.Time to be preparing for Central Michigan or Southern Mississippi.
  17. I think we can pretty much forget about Youngstown.Penn State is going to take their frustrations out on YSU this coming Saturday. Thatshould cure YSU of visions of misplaced granduer. The Zips have a home date open for 2007. YSU could be a last ditch fill in. Thisprogam deserves and needs a quality I-A opponent. For the pipe dreamers: There is no way Akron plays at Youngstown. This will not happen.
  18. The water just gets muddier. No fun for coach McFadden as he struggles to put a goodschedule together. Many teams are fearful of coming to Akron and getting beat. So,its go to their house or not at all. Thus, the Zips travel to Illinois Chicago-Circle for the first of a four game series. The next two will be in the JAR. That leaves the door open to buy out the last game ifdesiredHeard, too, that Zips got a home and home with Binghamton University. Sameproblem as with all the others. Therefore, we go there this year and they come herenext year. Looks like the Zips will have plenty of home games next year.I really do not know what these opposing coaches are thinking. The Zips are highlylikely to be even better next year than this year.Right now everyone is healthy and on track. Unlike Niagara where two of their starterswere just arrested for assault. Love them thugs. Look for Duquesne to be loading upon thugs, too. They'll be beatable this year. Next year they most likely will not be onAkron's schedule. Which is a bit of a shame as Duquesne will be a pretty fair opponent next season.
  19. Terrific ...!!!! No one on the planet gets ESPNU.
  20. Seems to me that it is a bad thing to get into a whizzing contest in forty mile an hourwinds, so I wont.I was at the game in Raleigh. Nearly all the NCST fans were cordial even after the game. Most know from the start that they were in a battle. Most knew that neither we nor themwas a crappy team. Frankly, it was a battle between two teams that rightly lay claim tobe in the 40-60th range of 119 D-IA teams.Probably most NCST fans did not know prior to the end of the first half that Akron was ona par with them. By half-time they knew. You have to see their stadium to appreciate it. Wowwieeeeeee ....!!!!!!Last point: The large picture of Kennedy lunging for the goal line that accompaniedTerry Pluto's fine article on the Zips has a different shadow under Kennedy's elbow. The photo being touted as proof Kennedy was short has a large and darker groundshadow. Can anyone spell Photoshop? That picture was tampered with. The ABJphoto gives a much different view. The real view if we are honest.
  21. Latest word is that some of the scheduling has been falling through. A lot of scramblinggoing on to get the schedule finished. Witness the late addition of an AWAY game atIllinois - Chicago Circle as to the scheduling woes. The trip to Arizona appears to be off.Mighty Pitt elected to schedule the even mightier Buffalo for a home and home in place of the nads busting Zips. coach Dixon is playing "save my job".
  22. The Lady Zip's basketball schedule is nearly ready for release. Here are some tidbits towhet your appetite.SLIPPERY ROCK (exhibition) Monday, Nov 6th@ Saint Louis University@ Floridia Atlantic tournament. Zips play FAU first. then Binghampton UniversityVALPARAISODAYTONPITTSBURGHLeHIGHDUQUESNE@ Cleveland State@ Youngstown StateSAINT FRANCIS (which one I do not know)NIAGARAMAC platy begins with two opponents at homeBGSUC'ANT STATEthen the rest of the MAC scheduleBasically, seven OOC home games with only five "ATs" Lots of home games to get the team prepared for conference play. Good planning.
  23. Had the opportunity to watch Brett several times while checking up on his brother Chris. Can you recall Jami Bosley? Brett plays quite a lot like Jami did. Crashes down low tograb rebounds and put backs. At six-five he may be a large two guard or a swing man.I can tell you this. This kid leaves it all out on the floor. I wanted him for a long time, but was told he isn't quite up to MAC level of ball. I disagreed from the start. I thinkyou are going to like what Brett brings. Now, if he only gets grades.
  24. Crickey ... no shi'ite Jackson. This was a slam dunk from the get go.In the world of sports, morons lap dogging the overdogs always suck up to the"champions". Part of why here in Ohio OSphew has such a huge following.Great pro Zips article in today's ABJ by Terry Pluto. We need lots more of this. Its time to concentrate on Central Michigan. CMU is an excellent team and at home. All too often they have "owned" the Zips in the past.
  25. Fifteen after twelve and the voting continues.Kennedy had a clear lead at noon the supposed ending time.Guess they keep voting until they get the guy they want in front.Does it really matter? All this fan voting is worth one vote. The two staff sports writers have 2/3 of the total say. My guess is that OverSizedMega State U playerJames Laurinaitis will "win" the selection.Honestly, he had a great game against a formidable opponent. But, then, too,he is expected to have great games. He plays for the Overdog.
