  1. You do all realize that the reason we have a Thursday night game against Buffalo isn't so it could be on ESPN2 right? We have a Thursday night game against Buffalo because we have a Wednesday Night ESPN2 game against Toledo and the MAC had to find a way to incorporate that into the schedule. These ESPN2 games are picked to start the season, and ESPN has the option to highlight any other game during the season if they like the match-up. If Buffalo was 5-3 with us, it would have been moved to the U for sure, but it was never scheduled to be a MAC feature game in the first place.
  2. Right, right, and did we have a couple of DL's down? Yes. Did you tell us anything we didn't already know? No. I could go back and find the quote from you, but you certainly made it out to be more than it was. There was nothing particularly earth shattering So yes I will continue to challenge unsubstantiated rumors on here, especially when it comes to player conduct. i have been on this board for years, it's not the first time you have talked out your @$$.
  3. And again, more stupid rumors. Without anything tangible, things should be challenged. Same thing as all the nonsense I heard during the WMU game "Ooh, he's not even on the sideline". No he's right there wearing a Pirates hat tossing a ball, talking with Chapman, and in every offensive huddle during timeouts and breaks in the action. But yeah, he's not focused on the Zips...
  4. That and nobody they have defeated has beaten anyone of importance. Only beating EMU by 14 isn't going to impress the pollsters either, even if EMU is having their best season in 30 years.
  5. Go me... I did not predict though that a school named BALL St would have fans that got mad about our team properly saluting then.
  6. Either say it don't enough of the rumor BS.
  7. The D-line has been rotating all year. An injury means that people in that rotation will get more snaps. it's unfortunate but it's not earth shattering.
  8. Kind of depends on the type of bruise. Based on the time off it is most likely a bone bruise. Which if the case, it could take 2-4 months to fully heal, and multiple weeks to feel comfortable enough to return to athletic activity.
  9. To answer your question no. It would likely be lumped in with general admission. If you go to the official ticketmaster website for the game, you can see that there are actually about 10 sections sold out all in the west stands. There are about 7 sections that are half sold and 2 that are 3 quarter sold. So the west is about 2500 short of a sellout. So the question is how many students and general admission get sold.
  10. I agree, whatever a person wants to do in their own suite is fair game. But TPS said the President's Suite that is where I have an issue.
  11. It is standard copyright law. It likely falls into the sports bar category, but people are paying large amounts of money to be in that suite.
  12. First which president was that and how many people were in the room and did they pay to be there? Because there are some legality issues there along with some just poor character choices, because that is amateurish as all get out. Do you think Ohio State airs the Alabama game in the president's box? Second, they can watch Indians highlights on their phones, this isn't 1995. Throwing the score up is enough, the only thing that should be on our screens are our highlights and stats, and occasionally scores from other games.
  13. As of 2016, the north half of the eastern stands is designated as the student section. Anyone can sit on the hill, and I don't like the idea of forcing anyone, especially students, to a specific spot. I have noticed the last two games that they are being very strict on seating. You can't even get into a section on the west stands without your ticket. There was another point mentioned regarding student loans and the "not wanting to pay the University another dime". I get that, boy do I get that. We are in our 30's, have loans we are paying back, but we are still season ticket holders, going back to the last year at the Rubber Bowl. Before that we would go to at least two games a year. There have been years that I have been close to dropping out, especially this year when they were considering getting rid of the concession vouchers. But we keep sticking with it. We have a lot of fun, our section is great, and I know a few of you on here sit by me and don't even know. But it's about tradition, we created a tradition, and we have stuck with it, and I will pass it to my sons. Some people have no experience with it, no emotional connection. That is where it has to start, invite a friend, drag them to the game. My biggest complaint besides attendance, is no one get's rowdy, no shouting, no cheers. People don't seem to know what to do on 3rd down when we are on defense. People don't even know the fight song. Atmosphere and gameday experience is bolstered by people who show up all the time actually being excited about what is going on. People get swept up in that excitement. Sitting on our hands is not exciting. Getting looks for standing and cheering for a big play is not exciting. Imagine going to a concert and everyone just sat there and enjoyed the music with no show of emotion. You would think the band sucked no matter how good they are. Oh and band parents, quit leaving after halftime for crying out loud.
  14. 42 but based on the seating chart only half are "reserved". Starting with 2016 the entire east stands were converted to General Admission and Student seating "Home of the AK-Rowdies". So 5 sections would be about half of the lower section of the western stands. The real question is are those sold out sections one's that were pretty close to sold out anyway. At least they are trying to sell it.
  15. It's Homecoming, we are honoring the players from the 1976 team, weather at game time will be 63 and sunny. That adds up to a lot of families and reasons for students to be there. We will definitely have more than 12,000 people there. What the attendance will be after halftime, that is a different story. We have gotten kicks inside the 5 a few times, just not into the end-zone, which leads me to believe that it is on purpose, with the goal being to stop the runner prior to the 25. I'm sticking with my defense finding its way comment from the Three for Thursday for this week.
  16. Great, now everybody will want my hat.... Looks really sharp though, wonder if we go blue jerseys and gold pants? Do we have gold pants in this year's unis?
  17. I have a feeling that just maybe, the defense is starting to find themselves. We gave up 17 points to Kent in the first half, and only 10 in the second half. That included a ridiculous 97 yard drive with less than 6 minutes left in the game. Miami to my knowledge does not have a Rankin on their team. With that said, I feel we hold Miami to the lowest points of the season. I am confident that regardless of Chapman or Woodson starting we can score 30+ on this team I think we rush in the 30-35 attempt range because we are getting very good bursts out of our running game. Akron 34 - Miami 16
  18. Oh I am much more fluent in "French" then that.
  19. That was a too close for comfort game, but that is what rivalries are about. My kids learned some new words today thanks to our inability to tackle Rankin.... It is 7:34 and....
  20. That recruiting story Daniel had is probably the exact reason it was so difficult to get any momentum as a program. I remember playing in the Rubber Bowl, and we would get to use Akron's locker room, and I just always thought it was the visiting team's locker room and they had some hidden gem stashed away somewhere for Akron. Then we got to play as the "away" team, and I realized the visiting locker room was actually a large cinder block closet. That was around the same time his recruiting visit would have been. Damn depressing, not to mention the crappy astroturf we had in the nineties. Just plastic carpet on top of concrete, it was a nightmare to play there especially in late October/November. Damn shame we didn't set things up correctly from the get go.
  21. Akron marathon story So far I have been impressed with what Matt Wilson has been doing in his role as interim president. If this is the kind of kid he raises, then his impact on the students at UA should be nothing but positive.
  22. There is a sense of deja vu, to an event that occurred a decade ago. We were sitting at 2-2 after a big program win against NC State, playing a very tough CMU to 3 point loss and getting rolling again against North Texas in a big blow out win. With the fifth game in 2006 we looked to face Kent on September 30. On that day, the weather was in and out, rain here and there, and perhaps a little colder than it should have been for that time of year. My wife and I just recently married had stopped at an Applebee's. Next to us, a girl and her bf were getting out of their car at the same time. The hippie looking girl looked over and noticed the Zippy sticker on my wife's car. I remember that exchange like it was yesterday.... Dirty Hippie Girl: "Oh, you guys are Akron fans" Me: "Akron graduates and fans actually" DHG: "Oh, we play you today don't we" -opening her jacket to reveal the angry chicken mascot on her shirt Me: "Yes we do, looking forward to it." DHG: "We're going to win!" Me: "Fat chance" That was it, just a few words, but it stuck with me. Not because of the exchange itself. But because of what Julian Edelman did to us that day. Killing us 37-15. A season of high hopes as we had just won the MAC, and the season had started off with such positive momentum. As we approach Saturday, that fear of a repeat of that day looms heavy on me. My heart and logic says we should be able to walk away with a mudhole stomping of the Golden Showers. But there is something there, that voice of that Dirty Hippie Girl saying "We're going to win!" still echos in my ear. 10 years later, have we really turned the corner, have we become the team that lives up to expectations? So much of me says yes we have, but there is that Dirty Hippie Girl still out there somewhere.
