I thought it was much too coincidental to ask.

Let's not get too cocky, since 2007 we only have 16 more wins than Savannah State.

I went with Coe too. Anyone who has garnered that much attention, I want to see if it is hype or legit. -

Where does the axe fall next?

So what is the root cause of the need for change? An expected loss of revenue (budget gap) due to "declining" enrollment. What caused the declining enrollment, it wasn't because of the changes and beautification of campus. The decline in enrollment was specifically due to a desire to do two things....1) increase the graduation rate...2) make the university more prestigious by increasing the metrics of incoming freshmen. So now because of the change to being an "open enrollment" university the new president is stuck with an image problem. The University of Akron, despite what the alumni and students know, is viewed as a commuter school, a last choice school. That is not an ideal image when you want to improve the type of student you want to attract. Now I disagree with some of the decisions, lower the cost of intro credits and raising fees on 300-400 level classes. That is counter productive to goal number of increasing the graduation rate. It promotes dropping out or transferring to other schools. Quite frankly it's a car sales technique that has no place in public education. Outside of that, the re-branding concept seems great. Establish an identity that as been lacking. People with knowledge pigeon holed UA as an engineering school even though it has many strong programs. The problem with the re-branding is that people "understand" polytechnic as "tech" and you put yourself at the disadvantage of having to educate people on what a polytechnic school is. Also the lack of transparency (though necessary as to avoid other schools from stealing the idea) created fear of a name change. Growing pains are rough, I remember when Proenza first took over, the increase in fees to pay for buildings that no one would see or use for 4 years hit a lot of people the wrong way, and enrollment dropped (below 25,000 at one point). But it eventually grew again. As Akron positions itself as a school of first choice, there are going to be some growing pains, but I think we will see improvement more quickly. -
And all Universities adhere to the same concept as University of Akron. Hire more adjunct then tenure. Why? Because it is easier to remove a poorly performing adjunct then a poorly performing tenured. At let's not forget, that even with a ton of tenured staff, who typically teaches the majority of classes? Grad assistants, now personally I would rather have people with real world experience teaching a class then a life time student. But that is just me. http://agb.org/trusteeship/2013/5/changing-academic-workforce

The answer to this mystery is pretty simple really. Can't at home results in a large increase for an individual game. What is not being accounted for is that when Can't is a home game, then the number of 3 game packages go up. There is a long period of time before single game ticket purchases open up that Can't is sold as a package with two other games. So the sold tickets (number used for attendance in most years) is higher for not just the Can't game, but 3 of 6 home games.

Douche move? I found it funny. Especially considering all the people that ride on Twitter like it's God's Word or something. Total eclipsed time....8 minutes, and people get their panties in a bunch.

FCS has 5 rounds of playoff games and the same length of schedule. For 1-A you pair down to 12 conferences, reduce to 11 games, best two teams in each conference play a championship (game 12 of the season), Seed the 12 winners by SOS, Top 4 teams get byes, the other 8 play. It's actually a 6 round, 24 team playoff, finishing by week. Most games played in a season would be 16. Any bowls that want to remain can pick from the 12 conference runners up, use the prestige bowls for the playoff locations. Everyone is happy.

Our players have teammates and friends on the OSU team. I have no problem with what they say on Twitter when we aren't playing them. The athletic department though, that was sickening, same with Akron Football Video.

4 Teams go to the "playoff" and then there are 39 bowls. 82 teams make it to a bowl game and 63 teams are above .500 right now. 21 teams are 5-5 or 5-6 currently. So there are currently 84 teams that are capable of filling 82 spots assuming all 84 win out. (If I am counting correctly).

I'm stating that Elton could not accurately state the color of shirt he is currently wearing. Also, I am trying to lull myself into a belief that we can win tonight, because we need to win tonight to even sniff a hope at a bowl game. NO EXCUSES, JUST WIN BABY!

This team can beat any of their last 5 opponents. Problem is they have to keep knowing they can beat anyone.

It is interesting to me that so many people put the loss on Woodson playing vs Pohl. Pohl had no team activities for half the week. This would have included film sessions and team meetings. Pohl was unprepared to face Ohio, even if he was cleared midweek. That likely means Wednesday night. So he would have had Thursday and the Friday walk through to get ready. As opposed to Woodson who had the whole week to prepare. We lost an offensive lineman early in the game, so a sub has to come in. Pohl is known to be a slow starter. Woodson answered Ohio's opening score easily, then we stalled for the rest of the half. Would an unprepared slow starter have answered Ohio's score to stem the momentum? Unlikely. The only reason we lost this game is because the line couldn't get a push to create any kind of run game. Then the defense kept poo-ing down their leg every time Akron took the lead. To top it off, on the last Akron drive that mattered, Pratt fumbles the ball in our own territory forcing us to eat all of our time outs and forcing an inexperienced QB into a tough 2 minute situation. We lost to a very disciplined mid-level MAC school with the most tenured coach in the Conference by a whopping 3 points. And people are acting like A. Woodson has 0 talent and B. Bowden is throwing away the season because we've given Pohl opportunities to quiet doubts but has yet to deliver. Pohl performs better when he thinks his job is on the line, and we need a win against Ball State. So Bowden is telling him, your job is on the line, and I know we can win with Woodson. So perform or get ready to be the back up. In my opinion Bowden is doing the right thing. We need to stay above .500 if we want to go bowling this year. 5-3 means we only have to split the pair in the last 4 games. 4-4 means we have to take 3, and it's a tough 3 with BGSU, Buffalo, and UMass is putting up big points every week. 3-1 when it matters is especially tough when this team is not used to playing with something on the line.

UA has not raised ticket prices since moving to Infocision Stadium. In fact the second year of 1-11 they started the "buy a season ticket get a $5 concession voucher and free parking". So they increased the value of what you are buying, unfortunately they are only just now increasing the value of what you are seeing. The biggest change they can make, they've been making...winning with exciting football. Marketing has to be more than Zips Win! on the electronic bill board. They should already be marketing the Bowling Green Blackout, but they aren't. It should be "Come see your Akron Zips Tuesday November 4th fight for their share of the MAC!" with the secondary tag of "Watch them take on the Bobcats on ESPN3 10-18". But there is barely anything. You can't generate interest if you aren't even generating awareness.

So JD Brookhart was an idiot? Because Brookhart would have been the one that called the first play in the new stadium against Morgan State.
