Did we stop scheduling YSU because Faust seemed to lose to them so often? Someone explain this.
League Rule: MAC schools are not permitted to play away games at 1-AA stadiums.
YSU will not play the Zips unless it is a home-home.
The Zips have offered to host YSU, and YSU has declined.
End of story.
If this was such a rule, please explain to myself and ALL YSU fans why Ball State is playing an AWAY game at Illinois State (same conference as YSU) in the next two seasons???
Because Ball state asked for an exception because they couldn't find FCS schools willing to play them.

Brian Kelly inherited a much better situation at GVSU, and still did not win a playoff game for over a decade there. Winters inherited one of the worst college football programs in the country, and in seven years is competing for a national championship. I'm more impressed with the latter.
So in just 7 short years we will be competitive in the playoffs, that don't exist at the level we compete.
Every season is a playoff for the Mid-American Conference Championship. Winters has success at bringing a program from the bottom up.
And fans here are going to give him the 3 year warm up he needs? Look at how long it took, and he still hasn't got his team ranked #1 in the GLIAC, just made the playoffs.
ITZ is attached because he played under Winters. I'm hard pressed to say that I am interested in Winters as our next coach.

ZachTheZip makes very valid points.
Here's a valid point. Tressel cares about the program, he wants to help, heck he is helping. You ever think he turned it down because he was afraid the NCAA sanctions would be too detrimental to the school and program?
Zach still acts like a kid, mad because things don't work out so he has to be venomous toward the person who hurt him.

Then maybe THAT's something Tressel could help out with....encouraging his old school to make a short trip west. It would be good for both sides, wouldn't it?
No, YSU can make more money playing Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan and if Akron loses, its just another "laughing stock" moment.

The irony is that Tressel tried to help his Alma Mater 2 years ago. So now Wistrcill has to listen.

Whew, I can't keep up with the pace of this thread. I think the only hope here is that wildfires tend to eventually die out if left on their own.
Ask Texas how well that works.

This is what will happen if Tressel doesn't come. Campbell would be a great hire, imo...but he just won't be Tressel.
He could be better. Lots of guys could win at Akron.
No it's too hard to win at Akron.
Someone said that, I think he said he was important.

what i proved was things are way out of hand with this AND ARE BELIEVING ANYTHING BEING SAID. Do I appologize for it yes. Did everyone believe it NO. Would I do it again NO.
then ban yourself from a while.

If JT doesn't come here, does everyone resume hating him and calling him a cheater/scum etc? I'm curious to see how this progresses.
I'm sure people will, the same people that hate their ex girlfriends or the ones that think every girl that won't go out with them must be a b-word.
I'm still not convinced on Winters, I have my reasons.

We'd be better off with a monkey as coach...so not too much of a consolation.
This one isn't dead yet. I think we are forgetting that the Canton Rep article just said he wasn't in Akron today...we all knew that. Other than that, it's mostly opinion, and we have plenty of that already. I'm sure if he really turns it down, someone will leak info and a real media outlet will pick it up. Then we will know.
Wait Tressel to Akron isn't dead or just the coaching thing?
-
Just mentioning previously mentioned names.
Campbell is interesting. Mount Union grad has 5 NC rings with them, and he is only 31.
I mean the other names out there would be something like
Terry Bowden, Ron Zook, Rick Neuheisel. Bowden maybe but the other two are kind of failures.
-
Well at least our name is working its way up the media chain.

Chuck Martin
Paul Winters
Matt Campbell
Hugh Freeze
Willie Fritz
Paul Chryst
D-1 Coordinators, D1-AA Head Coaches, or DII Head Coaches? That was our options before right?

Saw the news van and a cameraman as well.
Interesting, but i wouldn't be surprised if it was just for a story on how big it's getting...nothing of substance.
Canton Repository just posted that they spoke with Tressel's people and that he has been at his home all day in columbus and that he is not taking a coaching job at Akron.
Maybe not, but the moron that wrote the article doesn't even know that Infocision Stadium has better meeting rooms then most of campus and they hold high profile events there all the time.
The guy is not a moron. He's a very good, reliable, writer.
I stand by my statement, Todd.

Don't know if he posted it here or not, but a trusted source with very high connections at UA just told me that Tressel and another coach both turned down the job yesterday. Obviously, I don't *want* to believe the report, but he sincerely believes it's accurate.
I can live with JT turning down the job. What I couldn't live with would have been finding out that UA never even tossed in their hat.
I can live with JT turning it down too, what I can't live with is another Ianello type hire.

Why today didn't matter...
Sources said Wednesday for the meeting with Tressel the whole time, not Tuesday.
Next Trustee Meeting.
November 30, 2011, 10 a.m.*, Student Union, Room 339 (Executive session, 8 a.m.)

FROM TWITTER:
Anyone could have tweeted the same thing, real sources would be nice.

Scoured the building...had two other friends watch the outside of the building on each side. I haven't seen him personally but there was a buzz on the second floor about it .
Also, there is some sort of meeting in a large conference room on third floor of union. Professional looking people have been coming every few minutes and there has to be at least 20 people in there. Problem is, the doorway doesn't get much view. Trying to get a friend to take my camera across to Crouse to try to peer in window ha.
This is ridiculous...i'm not sold that he's here yet.
Third floor is where the Board of Trustees meets. Room 339.

Maybe we can borrow Reggie McAdams...

Someone explain to me what Dennison's name even has to do with this conversation (Akron's next football coach). Jim Dennison is an historical footnote in the university's history. Nobody on the Hill cares about him any longer.
Also, this morning on Honolulu sports radio (FWIW)
a writer from the Columbus paper was interviewed and I called in and asked about the Tressel to Akron rumors. He said yes, it's a BIG RUMOR. He also said that Tressel would be/was being considered for the Arizona State job, so why would he even be interested in Akron?.
Dennison is important to UA because he is one of the winningest coaches in its history. He also was involved with the program for 20 years (including 7 as the AD).
And why would Tressel be interested in Akron? Its home.

I don't thin guys like Tressel and other big time coaches give a hoot what the national media says about them.
It's easier to get kids to go to OSU than Akron.
Tressel didn't play Top 10 teams very often with a MAC schedule and Big Ten schedule.
Yeah, they don't, I mean it only almost killed Urban Meyer, but they don't care about media and fan pressure.
It is easier, hence them being better on the field, but its more difficult to get national championship talent at OSU.
No, cause he didn't play Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan St, Iowa, Texas, USC, Oregon, Miami, Florida, LSU on a regular basis. Stop the nonsense. You can be SEC biased as much as you want, but the truth is OSU and Tressel played a tough schedule and came out on top more times than not.
I get your no shortcuts concept. But how is this a shortcut? We have tried lower tier guys, the last three times. We haven't tried a name coach since Faust.
I haven't said its a perfect solution, nothing is, but if you want to make an impact for the program, this is definitely the way to go.

If you were advising JT on his next career move, where would "I think you should coach at Akron" fall on the list?
You said you wanted a place to take it easy and still make an impact on kids lives. Akron is that kind of place. You want to make good on your name and legacy and you are about teaching football. Well Akron desperately needs to be taught how to play football.
I'm not interested in a guy looking to take it easy. His easy job was OSU. It's hard as Hell to win at Akron and we don't need a guy to take it easy. We want a guy who will work his butt off to get the easy job at a school like OSU.
When I say take it "easy" I don't mean sleep walk through the job. Boy way to jump on context.
Tell me, is OSU an easier job than Akron? You will say recruiting, but he had to recruit against the top 10 teams in the nation. You say winning but he had to play against the top 10 50% of the time, at Akron you are lucky to see 1 top 10 team a season.
When I say "take it easy" I meant, not constantly scrutinized by national media. Akron is an easier job from a pressure stand point and you damn well know it.
Hire Paul Winters Now.

But it was practicing against his high powered offense that made them so good on defense.
