Considering where we all were yesterday, the hiring of Bowden is fantastic. I still would have chosen Winters because I think he would have been a longer burn. He would have been successful and would have made this his destination. He would have been another KD, while we have hired another Huggins. The best we can hope for now is three or four years of revived Zips football before Terry will jump back to the big time.
He would be "jumping back" to the big time at age 60. His age has been part of other schools hesitance. Big time programs want younger guys (Urban is going to OSU at 47) almost a full decade younger than Bowden.
I think Bowden just wanted to be at this level again and wanted to make a difference somewhere.

ESPN picks up on it.
SMH, ESPN
"Auburn Zips hire Terry Auburn as coach, source say"
"Sources: Terry Auburn to coach Zips"
That's all related to that SEC spin they have to put on anything. So they have to mention an SEC team as much as possible even when the article has nothing to do with the SEC.

I hope BWags reconsiders.
You know, he just might

Add me to the list of season ticket holders returning.

I wonder if Gerry Faust's old connection with Bowden helped up pull this off ??
I share the sentiment that Bowden was one of the best available. Correct me if i'm wrong, didn't he spend some time with the Zips as an assistant?
Anybody that experienced the Rubber Bowl trough's has instant street cred in my book!!
WOOT
Go Zips!!! Ku*k Fent!!!
Yes, that's why i've mentioned it.
He was our QB coach under Faust back in about 1987
Who was our QB in 87? I was 10 forgive me for my lack of knowledge.

THE HAIR PART!!! The answer was staring us in the face the whole time!!
I told you people, the hair part never lies.

Is this a coup for TW then?
Is it a coup to hire somebody nobody else looked at?
I'm not saying it's a bad hire, just don't think you could call it a coup.
Well you went from a nobody that no one had ever heard of to a big name successful coach that would have had a great career had he not been thrown under the bus by Auburn's Alumni.
-
Is this a coup for TW then?
I mean he wasn't even on the radar, I didn't think it was even a possibility. Figured he would be looking for a southern school LA-Tech, Houston, etc.

Prove it.

I don't see it being over $500 thousand unless they got a big time coordinator or coaching rehash. Like a Narduzzi, or Zook/Mason.
For someone like Loeffler I see 375-425.
-
88,000 and 12 wins in 5 years guarantee!
-
I cannot support somebody who coached football at Can't State. Not now, not ever.
So, if we hire Mason, you are done "supporting" Zips football?
Well I would assume he is also done "supporting" Zips baseball too.

From posts on various threads, it sounds as if Loefler is a no go? But I can't find any post actually ruling him out. Are we jumping the gun in dimissing Loefler, or is there a post/thread I've overlooked?
Yes, people are jumping the gun.
It is all based off of one tweet that said "he is mulling it over along with possibly pursuing NFL coaching opportunities". Which sounded to me like a good ploy to say "eh, better come at me with more if you want me".

Let's be realistic here. Actually, either one could hold Waddell's jockstrap. This task requires almost no skill.
I believe they meant figuratively.
And I've seen some jockstrap holding resumes, and suprisingly there is some skill to it.

although you can't change your vote on here, if you said no, would you change it now after finding out another coach declined the head coaching position?
I voted no, still say no, because he had a 3 year contract. Why fire him when you can just let him walk away

I have a suspicion as to why we’re having a hard time get anyone to sign on the dotted line. How many 1st time D-1 head coaches would agree to a 5-year contract that has a 2-year “out” clause? This clause, hypothetically of course, stipulates that if after 2 years the school determines the program is not going in the right direction this coach may be reassigned within the University at half of his salary.
I’m certainly no expert. I'm not even a novice. But I wonder if such a performance clause is common or not. I know we’ve had some discussion on the board about this (regarding Ianello).
There is no clause about 2 years. There is statement common in all coaching contracts, that if you are deamed to not be meeting certain criteria (failure to perform) the university can move you to another position. It just so happened that Ianello failed so badly that they had to exercise this after only 2 years. Its the only way schools can protect themselves from a bad coach. All contracts have buy outs and out clauses.
If anything Loeffler is waiting to see how bad we want him (counter offer) and wheter Addazio moves on from Temple.

I wonder how many people would join if I made a George Thomas Sucks as a Zips Beat Writer page on facebook.
I'm in.
Make it a Beacon needs to hire Michael Beavin full time as Zips Beat Writer and I'm on that too.

Bucknuts is saying that Penn State interim coach Tom Bradley may be in the mix for the Akron job.
Awesome, because I already felt violated by the whole process.

More re: Loeffler to Akron...per sources, he did not accept on the spot. Looking at NFL position coach options. Told he'll decide soon.
Unbelievable TW......
You poisoned this coaching job so badly that people would literally rather do anything else but be our coach.
More re: Loeffler to Akron...per sources, he is also considering taking a job with Philadelphia waste management. He believes he would have to deal with less $#!% there than at Akron.
-
A lot of coaches have their play sheet down their pants. Who has a pocket big enough for that?
That is the absolute least of my concerns about a coach.
-
CK,
I think our 28 day coachless period isn't even close to the record. I believe that the record for being coachless is held by the Akron Zips at 741 days.

Watching the Cardinal Mooney game rebroadcast on STO & Mooney's RB, #3 Roosevelt Griffin looks very good. 5'9" 190, Sr.
They also have a stud junior LB who really passes the eyeball test, #9 Courtney Love (poor kid), 6'1" 225.
Yeah I think Love could fill a major Hole for us.

George Thomas should be fired and replaced by Beaven.
I don't know...
I've read Beaven's movie reviews and they just don't match up with what Georgie can cut and paste from real critics.
Its going to be Terry Bowden
in Akron Zips Football
