  1. Two flaws to your logic, smaller schools than us have jerseys available for sale. Even the University doesn't have to order 200 jerseys to get them produced. You're talking 200 total jerseys from small to double X. You go with numbers that common (7, 34, 45, 56), you wind up with 800 jerseys, that you inventory and sell over a 4 year period, replenishing on the third year. It's not rocket science. And you are comparing an NFL jersey price (NFL licensing fee, Team licensing fee, player licensing fee, plus mark up from the manufacture and retailer) to a college jersey (University licensing fee, and then mark up) They range about $75 and cost the store about $40 a pop. Now the Athletic Department screwed up by not including retail jerseys in the original agreements. (which most schools do)
  2. Ok, the reason the team shop isn't open in the JAR has to do with who the operator of that team shop was. The reason the stadium team shop isn't open has to do with a few things. First, we eminent domained the property where the team shop and parking now exist. Barnes and Noble won the contract to operate the team shop, they wanted it to have a coffee shop in the team shop to drive traffic 7 days a week. Because of eminent domain rules, you can not acquire a property and replace it with the same business. So there are several legal loop holes that have to worked through. Second, the Athletic Department had to convince powers that be that team apparrel shop was vastly different then The Odd Corner. They are trying to avoid lawsuits that may occur from opening the team shop. For the time being it is likely that the official stadium team shop will be open on game days and during some of the premier sporting events (soccer). If we want jerseys (and I want all three major sports available) we have to inundate Barnes and Noble and the Athletic Department with requests. It's that simple. To us it only makes sense that official jerseys are available, to Barnes and Noble, it only makes sense to stock items that move large volume. So the biggest thing we can do is e-mail bomb the person in charge of purchasing. Unfortunately the only good e-mail I can find is this.... bksakron@bncollege.com Remember three important words Authentic Official Jersey. Do not say replica, because they already sell the generic blue ones in the book store in the student union.
  3. No MAC player prior to his Junior season should be put on a Heisman watch list, and very few Sophomores across the country should even be considered. As far as MAC Schools campaigning for Heisman Candidates, I say why not. If the Heisman has gotten to the point where players outside of the major conferences don't have a shot then it is no longer doing what it was intended to do. Which is to honor the best Division 1 player (and that includes FCS schools) in college football for that season. In all honesty, I'm starting to agree with a statement I read earlier this month. ESPN has ruined college football.
  4. FIU has a stadium, but it's not their current stadium. They are outdated by about 4 years. This is the current stadium for FIU, based on Team Builder it looks nothing like that. If there is any consolation the new uniforms (and the 2008, they call them 2009 unis) are in the game.
  5. To STZ... Get over it. Lebron is from Akron, Lebron gives to Akron, Lebron played for Cleveland, Cleveland didn't give anything to Akron. They acted like he was from Cleveland, until they thought they were going to lose him, and then "Akron is in our region, blah, blah, blah, we love Akron." I root for the Cavs because they used to be Akron's team. They were in an Akron suburb, I got to go to several games. I watched as Cleveland treated us like we are a suburb. We aren't, Cleveland doesn't give use anything, in fact they try to ruin us. Lebron grew up on the same streets as me, played on the same fields and courts as me and many others on here. He is Akron first, I am Akron first. I'm disappointed in his decision, it shows a "entitled attitude" a quitter mentality. But I not should anyone here, shun his charity to the city and University. As for your question regarding Art Modell (for the record he's already said if he had to do over again, he wouldn't) if he wanted to donate money, build the stadium, offer uniforms or any of that, anyone that would shun him is anti-Akron and anti-success. Is not like it's Christopher Coke offering money, all either of these people did was make a decision you (and millions of others) didn't agree with, they aren't criminals, just ignorant and selfish.
  6. Sounds like a good plan to me.
  7. Did it say it will all be done for this season? I didn't see that. They have a lot of work to do in less than 7 weeks. Well considering it specifies "new look this fall" and "three season ticket seating options for the 2010 season" I just kind of assumed they would be building this summer.
  8. Article posted to Gozips.com. Phase 1 & 2 fully funded and apparently will be completed before fall.
  9. I feel you guys, I had the worst forearm pain after biking from Akron to the Valleyview Bridge and back. Really messed with my golf game the next day. Felt fine swimming though
  10. Other than Temple, there is not a single team in the MAC a BCS level conference would want. In all the talk about realignment, there has not been a single peep about a MAC school going anywhere. The Big East may not want to take Temple back in a couple of years, but they may have to take them back out of necessity. Everyone, please listen to me and listen good. The MAC is a I-AA league. Any move the league makes should be with both eyes on I-AA and forgetting the fantasy that somehow we are going to "grow" into something different. The MAC is being crushed under the weight of the BCS conferences and we need to move and move quickly so we can do it on our terms and not in a panic. The league has one year to figure out what to do and they had better think fast. We could still be D-I in every other sport, we just need to free ourselves from the clutches of the BCS. Much of what you say about the MAC may have its merits, but we didn't build a $61M stadium to be FCS. Not happening @ UA. One of the major reasons the stadium was built was because the NEEDED one. The last one was falling down...literally falling down. I don't think we are going to have anything to say about realignment and may be forced out of our current position along with other MAClike schools. I dont' think the BCS schools want anything to do with schools like UofA and as soon as they can separate themselves, they will. We really need to plan for when that happens. I actually disagree with you. The common theme for you is that BCS schools are different. Well the BCS is made up of all 120 FBS schools. The difference lies in bowl qualification status. There are 65 automatic qualifiers and 55 non-automatic. The AQ's actually need the Non-AQ's to survive. You will ask "why?" or "how?", for the most part up to 25% of every AQ schedule is made up of Non-AQ from their region. Travel is consistantly more expensive and traveling a great distance and losing is even more expensive. Keeping region D-1 schools (even if inferior) allows you the ability to fill out your schedule with opponents that provide a healthy test/warm up. Additionally, those 55 Non-AQ's have huge pull in many of the states. The conferences will change, but there were always be talent heavy conferences and talent light conferences. So GP1 needs to quiet down already.
  11. Which is odd because I distinctly remember a Game Informer article saying FIU was one of the ones they added.
  12. I would not discount more movement, but I would point out that the PAC-10 doesn't have to do anything this year, Colorado does not become a member until 2012, a WAC or MWC school could easily jump in 1 year. Big East, I don't know, I think they have to figure out what is going to happen with their Non-Football schools before they make a move. Taglibue will probably want to see how the Big-Diez-y-dos handles the expansion and championship game, and how the MWC performs once all of the BCS Busting Mid-Majors are in one conference cannibalizing themselves. ACC and SEC will be happy they don't have "dillude" themselves. Also with the way ESPN and FOX handled the Big 12 issue, money is pretty much drying up. Those tv companies didn't want to shell out the money that would have been "required" for a PAC 16. And the Big 12 is at least staying until 2015-16.
  13. See I interpreted this completely different. It never specified a losing Akron team at the Info and a winning Akron team at the Rubber bowl, it just said a "losing team and a winning team". I assumed at the Info I would be watching a Losing team play a Winning Akron, while choice B would have been watching a MAC Champion (like Ohio, or CMU) win against a losing Akron.
  14. We shall see. The Mountain West is pretty confident, and right now between Utah, BYU, TCU, and Boise State they have more BCS experience and better rankings then the PAC-11-1 (because USC is worthless now). Money does talk, but that conference isn't too far off from getting "old Big 12" type money.
  15. SECOND DOMINOE - It's Colorado to Pac-10! Link Make it official! http://www.pac-10.org/genrel/061010aaa.html Sounds like the Big-10 is going to stay at 12 for the time being. Will the Pac-10 only go to 12?
  16. LOL If volleyball would just drop the pretenses and market itself as "near models being athletic in tight shorts" you would see crowds of 10-20 thousand showing up. (probably with fistfuls of ones)
  17. Maybe no one has said it in a while, but thank goodness for Zipsnation.
  18. Wait, correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you one of the biggest opponents of hiring Hunter as the new AD? Something along the lines of, "we need outsiders with fresh ideas"? Fresh ideas... I was opposed to Hunter, because I didn't see any progress from the areas he was in charge of. I wasn't happy with who we chose over him, though, when comparing qualifications. Wow kid, you keep on spinning.
  19. To call anyone in England a "real man" is hilarious. Have you convinced any of those Pac Islanders on the Big Island that they should put down the pads because they aren't "real men"?
  20. Wow, how long do you think this guy took to realize he should be behind the camera writing the weather report?
  21. Did someone say Snake Oil Salesman? Because I have a few ideas. If your willing to listen and buy my wonder tonic, it will make all your troubles go away. It is genuinely guaranteed to remove gout, scurvy, goiters, anxiety, insomnia, and it will make the opposite sex more attractive. This wonder drink, contains 99% pure coca powder, the wonder leaf that made the Mayans and Aztecs so fierce. So listen in ladies and gentlemen as I tell you how to fix this country... Realize that government intervention in corporate America is not socialism it's simple rule making keeping companies honest and preventing monopolization. Economics is as much mysticism as it is science. It requires a perfect environment that disassociates human behavior (greed). Real government intervention and infringement on rights comes in the form of laws. Mandated highways that funds are contingent on states obeying outdated puritanical rules. No bid contracts for government construction and equipment. Laws mandating what adults can and cannot do despite consent by both parties. Laws that infringe on your freedom while saving banks and insurance companies money. Ah yes, and lets not forget a privatized "credit" bureau that is only required to name and address match for "credit" information at the same time placing the burden of proof on consumers. Laws that say what material you may have access to, and what is "good for you".
  22. We play in the Sun Belt?
  23. Interesting that even on a bad attendance day, during a losing season, 9000 people showed up, yet for the National Championship Soccer game less than 9000 were there, and that is with Akron taking on the "marquee" programs North Carolina & Virginia. Look, if you support UA athletics, you support all of it, you don't pick and choose. I was at every home football game, and went to them over soccer, it doesn't mean I didn't go to soccer games, or listen to them on the way home from class to spend time with my 5 month old son. You certainly don't bash one over the other. Football stunk last year, we as fans and alumni have a right to bitch about it, we deserve better. But you certainly don't get to say, I love soccer, F Football, at least soccer wins, and people care more about winning. Soccer, as great as it is, is 4th fiddle in this country. Not even number two, it might even be 5th fiddle in some areas, because Lacrosse draws more people. Heck the Lacrosse final last year had more people then attended the NCAA Men's baskeball final. Be mad that they haven't given us the football program we deserve, but don't hate on the football program.
  24. Oregon, Washington, Most of Texas, Oklahoma, Most of New Mexico, and Most of Arizona can hardly be considered "warm weather states" and Virginia? Especially Appalachia and near DC isn't what would be called "warm weather" either. Additionally Florida, Texas, California are 1, 2, and 4 on the population chart making up about 26% of the total US population. Adding the other 14 it's almost 50% of the population in those 18 states. Just saying the variables are not very accurate. If 70% of players players come from 50% of the population the question I would ask is "where is the 14-18 year old population the highest?" Most likely those states mentioned, as jobs have forced younger people (who often most likely to move for a job) to move. It likely isn't as "disporportionate" as people think. They also mention the last 7 BCS champions coming from warm weather states, but fail to mention the key role Ohio and Michigan residents played on those teams to win.
