  1. The University should have talked about it, you are right. But a violation is a violation. Each of those things you mention have penalties that accompany the severity of the crime. You walk out with a Company Bic once, no one notices, you do it every day then you're gonna get fired. That's what I want to know. Did he text a kid outside of communication time, or did he text 50 kids outside of communication time? When I said there is no such thing as a "minor violation" I meant it. A minor violation implies that there is a non severe penalty associated to it. However; once you have one minor you draw the eyes of the NCAA and everything you do is now suspect. That is how FSU got caught, that is how Marshall got caught, that is how Washington got caught, was a "minor violation" then the NCAA ended up finding more. I fully believe we have a clean program, but part of having a clean program is making sure we don't take "minor violations" lightly.
  2. Wow that took longer than I ever expected.
  3. Yep, I mean why would you tell a person who is just forgetting to put in one bolt in each car to completely stop what he's doing until they see if it's a problem? He works in recruiting, if there was even an ounce of suspicion that he is doing something wrong you have to stop it so that there are as few exposures as possible. That is just common sense. A violation is a violation and if there are a number of violations then that becomes something major. From all accounts Reno was a great guy with a very good work ethic. There are several reasons he might have decided to step down. Anywhere from feeling that he was burnt by the AD to just trying to save face. The fact is, we have no information other than "investigating possible recruiting violations" and "Reno Ferri resigns". Everyone is trying to make wild connections between the two things. We have every right to speculate, but remember that, it's just speculation.
  4. Weather will be brisk and partly cloudy high of 53 lows in the upper 30's. First game under the lights, homecoming, against OU.17525
  5. Hunter said he was at least here until the end of the year, after that who knows. If it looks like he can pad his resume more here than at Houston, why wouldn't he stay. I know Wistrcill wanted to keep him here.
  6. Funny that on the Macbbs board they locked a jupitertoo thread where he tried his decade-old tired rant/schitck. Now he's on the Rasor blog under the name joe desjardines with the same schitck. The guy has no life, and is so consumed with jealousy it boarders on creepy. Actually, it crosses the line.Is that him? Here I thought I was arguing with some Can't grad.
  7. Well that is why I think there will be county help on this too.
  8. As I recall most of the city felt an Arena was a necessity too. It was part of the Akron 2025 project. Just a look around to other communities is depressing. Y-town has one, Dayton has two, Toledo now has one. Why shouldn't Akron have one (we used to have one at Goodyear, but these things outdate so fast).Let's go Akron; Let's go Zips!!! Let's make this thing happen.
  9. Exactly, Rasor mentioned rumors of two additional visitors. If those visitors were there, this was a very big excursion. Here's hoping it all works out... Playing at the First Energy "Power House" doesn't sound too bad to me.
  10. That's pretty good because when I checked this morning he was tied for third at 12.1% and the person in first, Eric Weigman, who is now in second was at almost 30%. Nice job nation. Keep it going.Lengthening that lead outZak Boggs 11.2% Ronnie Bouemboue 1.1% Richard Edgar 9% Rylan Hawkins 3.4% Tennant McVea 2.2% Patrick Sampson 2.2% Zack Schilawski 13.5% Eric Weigman 20.2% Jason Yeisley 11.2% Ben Zemanski 25.8%
  11. You are so poking the Jake/Blake/Bilbo bear it's not even funny. I believe this is similar to when Thomas and then Rhoades visited places like ECU, and Oregon State.
  12. ESPN
  13. I joke about star wars all the time and it doesn't make me dagobaphobic.Honestly, the real problem isn't the jokes, it's the power that people let the joke have over them. If you learned to laugh it off and be like "you know what, i'm not, but some people are" it would take the power away from it. Very rarely do you see Jews saying "that joke is anti-semetic" they usually incorporate it into their schtick.Comedy brings acceptance, unfortunately there are way too many sticks in the mud. I was excited about the Gay Games because it means that NEO is actually losing some of it's stigma as being some backwater industrial trashville. I mean look at where these games were held in the past. Mostly progressive areas like San Fran.
  14. Yeah, he has been very deceptive in the past. I would call his bluff. I hope he has at least an inside straight or flush draw.I'm pretty sure the consensus is that he shows the "draw" too much
  15. I see the problem already They think the game is September 10th, no wonder they have problems.
  16. Some joke list is definitely less important than having a winning season. Part of having that winning season is beating the MAC East, and that starts next Saturday at 6. I want people to remember we didn't have a losing season last year because of OOC games (2-2) or from playing the MAC West (2-1) we had a losing season because we were 1-4 vs the MAC East (BG, Buffalo, Ohio, & Temple). The Winning has to start now.
  17. Yeah because we would hate to have a Zydrunas Ilgauskas type of player with the zips. That would be a terrible thing. A 7-2 all star with a great mid range shooting ability but not very athletic. Even Kentucky would hate to have a guy like Z. If he stayed commited to kentucky, you would have seen other stuff on their boards now. Now that he isn't, why don't you all join me in prayers that Dakotah decides to become a zip.Yes, I vote we pray. Then if he doesn't come here we can blame God. A lesser man would say "just like your parents did" right here. But I am above all that.
  18. LeFevour's rigging the vote?
  19. To which I began the thread after the Indiana game, "Akron to Missouri Valley Conference". Seems it drew little interest except from the YSU lurker. Since Akron does not have the resources to "compete with the big diogs" (diogs apparently meaning BCS conference schools?) should we therefore abandon all intent on competing? Excellent point. There was a time in college football when there were not divisions in place to separate the schools. If you look back, tOSU used to play teams like Muskingum and other now D-III schools. Most of the time that did not happen because people knew where they belonged without formal divisions.Mt. Union is by all standards the best team in D-III over the past 15-20 years. They couldn't win a game against any D-I team and college athletics are set up so they can never get to that point. Some fan logic would have us believe the end result of striving for excellence is going 12-0. Could not the end result of striving for excellene also be going 7-5, making the MAC Championship game and then winning it? I just want to be the best team in a bad conference. 7-5 can get you there. The team that won the Super Bowl last year went 12-4 in the regular season. What if they go 10-6, limp in to a Wild Card spot and they go on to win the Super Bowl again somehow? Is that still excellence or "is their program going in the wrong direction" because they didn't win as many games as the year before? In the end, they just want to get to the playoffs and let the chips fall where they may. Doesn't 7-5 get a MAC team close to the division championship with a chance to let the chips fall where they may in December?NFL and College football is apples and oranges. All 12 games matter in college football, in the NFL you play for a playoff spot then home field advantage. That means if you clinch both in 11 you don't care about the last 5. (which is why college playoffs would be a waste) your wrongness being stated, I agree with the fact that we need to first worry about being the best team in our conference, winning championships and getting bowl appearances makes money for the program and as everyone (but GP1) knows, money is what makes the program better.
  20. Being the big digger that I am I stumbled on this blog.As you can see it's from March 09. So that got me curious and I did some more research.Which helped me discover this powerpoint and this documentIn brief, the University will be building the new law building on the site of the current Cunningham building (connecting the whole thing to CBA), current budget 23.6 million. As best I can tell the powerpoint was part of the feasability study that led them to decide to go with a brand new building. It's very likely that an announcement will be made in the near future as deadline for the construction manager application is 10/27/09.This is kind of exciting as once this is completed it frees up the land that the current law building sits on for the new School of Nursing. My understanding is that the Law School itself has raised quite a bit of the 23.6 million, but I can't find anything on that (so no big bond rating hit for the school). The American Bar Association is requiring the new building so that the Law School can maintain it's accredidation. Also it would appear from some of the other things I saw that Wolf Ledges may go the way of Union and Carrol and become a Pedestrian Mall.
  21. Marshall won in the MAC because of numerous recruiting violations that have now finally caught up to them (hence the recent suckage in C-USA).And Marshall had probably the best facilities in the MAC at the time.Joan Edwards Stadium was built in 1991 (the stadium was 6 years old at the time and the largest in the MAC) and they had been ramping up for D-1 since 1990.edit* and on your Shane comment, you fail to realize that he was the offensive coordinator that developed Roethlisberger while under Hoepner.OR the offensive coordinator who road Big Ben's coattails while under Hoepner. Time will tell. Can I get a spinning smiley? Just for use on GP1...
  22. We could use some levity.
  23. Let's hope the coaching situation doesn't scare him and others away from Akron.Sounded to me like he was coming for the facilities and school anyway. (oh wait, facilities don't matter on where a player goes)
