  1. Ziptrader,Would be glad to take this offer over to the Akron Cigar Club website. Several hundred members who would be interested in the new club. It might be a good idea to have the owners register over at our site and make their pitch to the members. akroncigarclub.net
  2. What???????A conflab exemption for Frank Solich? I'll drink to that. Weak and painfully obvious, but it had to be done.

  4. Only thing I found is that he was a defensive lineman going into senior year in HS - 6 feet and 260 pounds. Was their heavyweight wrestler and ended season at 31-2.
  5. May be the single worst 7 or 8 minutes of basketball I have ever seen from an experienced group. See y'all next year.
  6. My thoughts and prayers go out to NIU.In finest Zips fashion, here's hoping that this becomes one of our longest threads.
  7. One player who we were looking at an liked though, Dom Britt from trotwood madison did not commit to anyone yet, and he was high on akron. it will be interesting to see who decided to walk on and where.Tim,Scouts shows him signing with Jackson State. Weird, because he had offers from quite a few majors. Although Scouts still shows Jarvis Givins going to Akron this year
  8. Plus a couple of kids out of Strongsville (D. J. Woods and another one I can't recall) and a linebacker out of Hudson (Niam) who seemed to have all of the tools. It is always interesting to look at the roster when it is published to see if any of these athletes caught on as walk-ons. Unless the Captain has some insight?????
  9. Scouts showed offers from the Zips and Ohio but indicates he didn't commit anywhere. Wonder if he is a possibility as a walk-on?Carlin Isleshttp://scoutingohio.com/Carlin_Isles_Massillon_Jackson.htm
  10. Scouts is now showing a commitment from this DE/TE from Floridahttp://akron.scout.com/a.z?s=333&p=8&a...amp;nid=3005543
  11. He sounds like Toledo material to me?Ouch. Comment noted. Just try to get more of your commits to be eligible this year.Let's be real here. The rumors are that his troubles involve underaged girls and are very serious. We absolutely do not need that influence on this team. We should have learned our lessons by now. Say what you want about Tressel, he has been burned and has responded by being consistently cautious about potential problems. We should do the same.
  12. Rivals shows Hassan Hazime as an addition to the current class as of yesterday. Also a new cornerback commit from prep school - http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.a...mp;pr_key=76818
  13. I thought Givens was already in school in Florida. Are you sure that is correct? You are correct BuckZip. It is very unlikely that Givens will commit to the Zips out of high school this year when he will be entering his sophomore year at Florida Atlantic.

  15. OK, I'm dense. We already have a K C Patterson on the roster as of 8/19 from the same school??Different guy??? http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPS...p;Q_SEASON=2007
  16. According to Scouts, he has verballed to Cincy.

  18. Boo Jackson, maybe?http://akron.scout.com/a.z?s=333&p=8&a...amp;nid=3090931
  19. I'm guessing he means we have better a Broadcast Journalism curriculum.
  20. They actually have film of him at all three positions (WR, DB, KR, even RB now that I think of it). Seemed perfectly fine running between tackles.FWIW, Scouts lists him at 5 feet 9.5 inches and 160 pounds. Eugene Jarvis size.
  21. The highlight reel on Rivals shows him as a DB, WR and KR.
  22. From Ohio to The U of A:http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.a...mp;pr_key=58931
  23. It is interesting to see the spin on what JD has done here when he may get a look at CSU.http://www.coloradoan.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar...360/1006/SPORTS
  24. Bringing up the last few Owens recruits doesn't cut it with me. My point was that JD started out down a slippery slope of taking too many chances on athletes who either didn't show up at all, were attitude problems or couldn't cut it in the classroom. I'm of the belief that he has changed course and is looking at better student athletes. His offensive line for next year will be as deep as I have ever seen at the U of A. The defensive line is improving in depth and with contributions from the next one or two classes should be improved (maybe even to the point where we go to a 4-3 alignment. We lose players every year and somehow we miraculously replace them.
  25. You guys are gonna kill me for this, but I think JD gets two more years, especially if we see improvement next year.I'm not. This is by far more likely given his recent extension. He has shown the ability to learn and adapt at recruiting. As you say, whether or not he can extend that to personnel decisions and on-the-field strategy remains to be seen. He is young and inexperienced. He was brought here more for his upside than his experience. The next two recruiting classes, improvement in X's and O's and the casting of an identity for both the offense and defense will determine how successful we are heading towards the opening of the new stadium.
