Apparently the ganga is flowing for the home team. Didn't notice LaFrance holding instead of Campbell?

Only to have Nicely throw a pick six after being given 10 seconds of protection in the end zone.

If others on this board are right (and I think they are), the pro style offense requires better recruits to run successfully. How do you get that kind of athlete with a potential winless record?

You hit my biggest long-term fear on the head. Even if he is a GREAT recruiter, what is the possible effect of a horrible season on the potential recruits? I completely agree. Let them drive to the Rubber Bowl everyday after class and lifting, dress in that smelly shithole, and then hike a mile down the road to the practice fields where you spend half of practice looking at your feet trying to make sure you don't step in a hole and break your ankle. These guys practice in cushy facilities, pretend to lift in an perfectly air conditioned, clean and shiny weightroom, and make sure they cash their scholarship checks before they head out to the field on Saturday to not give a shit and embarrass their school and alumni. +100

Face it...... this coaching staff can't make adjustments in a two week period. You want in-game adjustments? Jeez.

I am mailing back my tickets - half to Coach I and half to TW and requesting a refund. That game today was an embarrassment to the University and you could tell from the smugness in the post game interview that the coach doesn't get it. G-W was a better team than I gave them credit for ahead of time but there is no way we should have lost - all phases of the team took turns sucking.

This post sums up my assessment exactly. Two biggest weaknesses - receiving corps and defensive secondary.

2010 walk-on: FS Nolan Plate
KentZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Wow. That is definitely a video worth watching. Thanks Zach. Six feet, 184 and lining up at nose tackle????? Takes great routes to the ball carrier and looks like a sure tackler with some closing speed. -
I predict Henderson and Howard play an equal amount of snaps for the Zips.
-
I'm guessing Henderson will be a no show. But not only will Tonga be back, I'm predicting that he will have an even bigger year next year than Bain had this year.According to this, you guessed correctly.http://akron.scout.com/a.z?s=333&p=8&a...amp;nid=4520163

You're killin' meWatch the video in the link I providedExcellent heavyweight wrestler - came in 2nd at the recent Iron Man Invitational at Walsh Excellent studentPlays tuba in the band at half time (which my Dad did for the Zips way back when- soft spot) Comes from a good local program and is high character from what I hearEnough? Also,http://www.flowrestling.org/videos/coverag...eight_class:285You're confusing me. Didn't we cancel our wrestling program back around 1979 -- same time as men's swimming?Big Kahuna,Don't be confused. Simply looking at wrestling skills as an indicator of football potential. -

Also,Ohio OL favors two schoolsOffensive lineman Ben Buzelli (Wadsworth, Ohio) started at offensive tackle his sophomore season. He played both offensive tackle and defensive tackle during his junior season and will do the same as a senior. The 6-4, 298-pounder is expected to play on offense at the next level. He attended camps at Ohio State and Pitt earlier this summer, and visited Akron."Akron and Ohio State are pretty much my two favorites," Buzelli said. "I like Cincinnati, Pitt, and Ohio University too, but mostly Akron and Ohio State."Ohio State is my favorite. At their camp they said if I play really well, after the first two games they would think about offering me."Buzelli is waiting for his first scholarship offer. -

Cant wait for recruiting update

How about it wouldn't surprise me if the new head coach would meet in person with the WR from Wadsworth in the very near future? -
http://www.kansas.com/sports/jayhawks/story/1088277.htmlWarinner interviews with Akron — Kansas offensive coordinator Ed Warinner interviewed Monday for the vacant Akron head coaching position, a source told The Eagle. Warinner, one of three finalists this season for the American Football Coaches Association's national assistant coach of the year award, has coached the KU offense to the top three total yardage seasons in school history in three years on the job. Warinner and Akron make sense for each other. Warinner is a native of nearby Strasburg, Ohio, who attended nearby Mount Union College from 1979-83. He served as an Akron assistant coach in 1984 while working on his master's degree, which he received in 1985. Throughout his career, Warinner has maintained deep recruiting ties in Ohio.

From the Respository."Hoobler will have a full-ride scholarship waiting for him somewhere next fall, but he's not sure where it will be.Before the season Hoobler made a verbal commitment to attend Akron, but the future of the Zips' program is uncertain. The recruiting coordinator resigned amidst allegations of NCAA violations and the team has struggled to a 2-9 record in what could be coach J.D. Brookhart's last season there. Also, Hoobler, who owns a 3.4 GPA, was informed he can't play football and also major in pre-med at Akron. With that in mind, Hoobler said he plans to keep his options open by making official visits to Indiana University, Central Michigan and possibly other schools."I just want to find a college that I'll fit in at and be able to take the major I want," said Hoobler, whose brother, Chad, was a Carrollton product, and played for both Ohio State and Ashland in a career that wound up being hampered by knee trouble.Wherever Hoobler winds up, Davault is confident that school's getting a good one."I think he'll be real good," Davault said. "When Indiana had a guy here he was watching Chase walk down the hallway and said, 'That's an All-Big Ten linebacker right there.'""If he ends up at Akron, I don't think he'll red-shirt, he'll be right in the mix. If he ends up at a Big Ten school, the question will be what to do with him. He's got the size and length to be one of those defensive ends who stands up. I think he'll be a great player wherever he ends up."

We really were outsized and outplayed. If the coach next year decides to actually join the MAC and start competing, we will have to start playing a different defense. The recruiting of small quick defensive backfield players will have to be slowed down and we will have to start recruiting larger athletes. Everyone else in the MAC does it. Why can't we? Our D Line is constantly one of the smallest I see all year. Overweight LB's and DE's trying to stuff up the middle just isn't going to work in the MAC.
