Actually the orginal post about VCU was in response to what can bring people to the JAR. I think that the band is vital in creating some excitement and creating a cool vibe in the arena. A cool vibe will bring in the students. For example, me and my daughter are going to the VCU/St. Louis game coming up. We care little about the game...we're going to see what antic the band does and be a part of the excitement. That can happen whether you're in the MAC, the A-10, or at the local high school.

People who want that type of entertainment around here go to see the Cavs, Canton Charge or Rubberducks.

I was there but my phone wasn't. Zips played well obviously. The bus trips are a lot of fun. Especially when we come away with the victory. Nice contingent of Zips fans there. Loved sitting behind the team's bench.

Well played game. Now let's go get the Rockets & flashes!

I would guess that we had between 75-100 fans at the game. About 20% of total attendance in the arena.

I don't think anyone is trying to screw us over intentionally, but I do think we are being screwed. There are 12 MAC schools and 9 weeks in the MAC basketball season with most weeks having only 1 Friday game. The MAC could easily schedule in a way that makes sure no MAC team loses more than 2 home Saturday games.

I repeat, The MAC does not have control over which games are played on Saturday vs Friday. The TV contracts they signed dictate the scheduling. The powers that be feel that the additional TV exposure is worth the hassle.

  4. There is still time to join your fellow Zips fans at the game Friday.

An over the back 90 feet away from the hoop that results in free throws at the other end is a bad foul. He has 29 fouls on the season in 121 minutes of play with a large chunk of them being away from the basket. That's a foul roughly every 4 minutes. Hughes struggled with fouling early on, but he hasn't committed more than 2 fouls in any game since Air Force. In fact the last game he committed 2 fouls going into the Ohio game was when the Zips played Coppin State.

He hadn't played in about 10 games.

So we moved the game to an inconvenient time to accommodate a regional sports station that I wasn't aware was in existence until now? Sounds about right for Akron.

If it was a station like STO or Fox Sports Ohio, a station people actually watch, I'd be more accepting.

It's not Akrons call on when or what day game time is, complain to the MAC.

Men's Soccer had to gain respect somehow. If I remember correctly, it took road wins and tournament runs to garner enough respect to get ACC teams to come into our house. Granted the soccer program had a slightly more established foundation to begin with, but not much. It's still AKRON.

To compare to a fellow "mid-major" men's basketball program... Gonzaga had to go beat teams on the road and win tourney games for teams to finally respect them enough to play the Zags AT Gonzaga.

Gonzaga is a mid-major in name only.  They are a private school with no football. They made a decision to spend the money to compete with the P-5 schools. They have their own private jet and a huge recruiting budget. They made basketball the #1 priority. Unless UA is willing to do the same, we are what we are. Maybe if we had built a $60 mil arena instead of a football stadium it could have happened but that ship has sailed.

:gun:[Argument for Weaker Schedule to Secure 21+ wins]

Take a page from the Men's Soccer handbook. I think it's page #1 or #2...

"THE MAC BLOWS. ELIMINATE THAT HINDRANCE BY STRENGTHENING THE OOC SCHEDULE. IF THEY WILL NOT PLAY YOU AT YOUR PLACE, GO BEAT THEM AT THEIR'S."

Trying to compare scheduling for MSOC vs MBB is worthless.

Good to know our ABJ beat writer was at the game last night. Oh wait, it was a staff report and the game was on ESPN3. Oh well, at least they reported on it.

Any game that the reporter does not attend has a "Staff Report" byline.  That is SOP in the news industry.

I believe the Jawanza Moore award is reserved for the player that simply goes off in his last game at the JAR, which Jawanza did.

Regarding the big leap in the Senior Year, until now, there's only been one answer:
