Couldnt agree more. No red for this IU game. Unless of course you are an IU fan. I really think the stadium would look great if all the fans wore navy. And it would look good with the new All blue Unis
-
Didnt think about that. Night games are alway awesome in my opinion. Maybe for our first night game or our first big night game we could have a blue (or any Akron color) out. Think that would be pretty cool. GP1 - I walked by Bdubs it looked alright. Nothing special. They did have the whole parking lot blocked off and people were drinking outside. Like some one else said im not a big Bdubs fan. The food isnt very good for the prices they charge.

It lacks the magic of tradition and history. Most stadiums have stories attached to them, great plays and legends from all the games played there. This is something that will grow over time. I also think that the fans are a part of that, and yesterday the fans weren't sure of themselves, they were kind of getting used to the feeling.I believe that when the dorms get built that will obscure the view of Exchange there will be a better feel. Right now it's too open.Good point. Give it a few season with a winning team and we will have tradition in the stadium. Are they keeping the parking lot behind the scoreboard or will that become dorms as well?I thought it was originally going to be dorms.

Went to HS with Beanie. Not much of an OSU fan, but I am a big Zips fan. The avatar and screen name dont matter. My assessment wasn't ambiguous it was pretty clear. I am allowed to be critical of the stadium and state points where I think they could improve.

Maybe this is just me because no one else has complained about this. The stadium just seems to be missing something. Yeah it looks great. But to me it is bare and lifeless. Im not too sure what there is they could do now but I think something needs to be added to the stands opposite the press box. Then something need to be done to building in the north endzone. It looks bare and the ring of honor on a wall, which last time i checked is not a ring, looked fairly stupid. All in all the stadium is nice, but just had those few complaints. The vibe around campus was awesome. I was talking many students, friends, and former players and for the first time we can remember this actually felt like a college campus on gameday. Which to me was a great feeling to see in my hometown.

Cornellius "Tank" Carradine?
Beanie 4 Heisman replied to ksu sucks's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Just because a recruiting site doesnt say we didnt offer someone doesnt mean anything. We offer so many seniors in upwards of 400. We are the first to offer many high school seniors, many of which dont come here. Mid Major have to offer so many people based on the talent they want, think they can get, and can get. -
My favorite line from the Toledo Blade article, "At 2-7 the Rockets clinch their 3rd consecutive losing season." I just found that to be really funny for some reason.

Toledo Area Star Offered by the Zips
Beanie 4 Heisman replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
No. The recruiting is always going and happening. The public just doesnt here everything. If you how many scholarships a school like Akron has to offer a year, you would be amazed. The coaches are always busy recruiting. If you are in the stadium for pregame you can see all of the recruits on the sideline. Granted the majority of them are just there because they are local, but you get a few maybe a handful a game are the real deal and will actually recieve offers from us or other D-1's -
He is a JR. played his first two seasons at Iowa. Redshirted last year for transfer. This year is his JR. season. Next year SR. year for Bain. He will be here.

Both Wagner and Patterson are gone. Patterson was terrible. He was so bad he got kicked off the scout team, because he couldnt give the defense a decent look. Wagner transferred to ashland i believe. The depth chart now reads. Jacq, Matt, Jordan Miller, and Jerred Wackerly. Jacq is our QB live with it. This board always wants something different. Jacq is playing decent football right now. he looks great sometimes and not so good other times. Most QB's are this way. But there is a reason Jacq is and remains our QB.

JD hasnt done the play calling for two or three season now. That job is Joe Moorhead's. All though i am sure JD does give his input on plays being called. I do agree with your assessment on going to a MAC championship if we win. I think we can beat all of the remaining teams on the schedule this season. How sweet would it be to 9-3 at the end of the regular season. Go Zips! Flush the Fl ashes

73 -0, Akron is what i would love to see. Realistically i am going to say 31 - 14 Zips

DK is solid. The best all around back we have probably. Alex Allen is is good, but DK is sound in all areas of the game. He is a great pass protector, receiver out of the backfield (some of the best hands on the team), and a very solid runner. Between DK Tuzze and GP we should be good to go at rb this game. I wouldnt expect to see DeVoe.

To answer a few questions. We have signed a new contract with adidas just a few weeks ago. Im not too sure how long the contract goes for. There will be new home uniforms for next season. I believe the away uniforms are staying as is. The away uniform is really nice looking uniform. The idea of the different helmet stickers isnt a bad idea. But you would have to have them made and change the entire teams helmet sticker every time you wanted a different look on the helmets. And remember someone has to do this every time. it doesnt just happen. I personally like the Blue Helmets with the gold facemasks that zip81 made. The big problem that we would be running into here is money. Currently we have one set of helmets. A lot of schools have a set of practice helmets and game helmets. We, right now, dont have the money to do this. Out helmets are painted gold with a blue flake in them. The shell itself is the same color as greenbay's helmets. That is why you see yellow on some of the helmets we have that are beat up. The solution would be to with a helmet you dont have to have panted over; such as the blue or white. Think the Steelers helmet. It is an impregnated helmet meaning the shell itself is that color. None of the companies i am aware of make a Gold impregnated helmet. To do this we would have to raise the money for a new set of helmets. The helmets the team currently is using, The Riddell Revolution, cost about 160-170 per helmet for the standard and about 200+ for a different version called the IQ. Now if we were going to chage you would have to figure in those prices for about maybe 150 helmets. $180 multiplies by 150 helmets puts us at $27,000 dollars. Not too bad. But now you would have to figure in the facemasks. Which cost some where between 12-20 dollars. We will say $15 multiplied by 200 facemasks. Which probably still isnt enough. Gives us $3000 dollars. To change the color of the helmets and the facemask the team would be looking at around $30,000 not to mention the cost of shipping. That is all a rough estimate and i would say it is on the low side. to be safe i would guess we need about $35,000+ in order to change the helmets. If a donor is reading this and wants to see different helmets or uniforms please donate. And say that is what you want the money used for. Thank you in advance if you are out there. Now the uniforms that is another story...I'll leave that for later today maybe.

Speedy good sized LB. Also, an Ohio kid. The coaches are excited about this kid. Look at some his tackles he make on this video. He is chasing down receivers all the way down the field. Looks like he could be another good player for the Zips. http://www.scoutingohio.com/Blake_Fraley_Hilliard_Darby.htm

Alex Allen is a great person and great player. he loves the game. If he can get another year and if the NFL isnt calling I would expect him to be back. He got out of the hospital yesterday and is recovering from surgery. If you go to the game i would expect that you will see him there. For now we can enjoy what we have and that is a backfield of Former Presidents: Andrew Johnson and Kennedy.

The return of the Defensive Line
Beanie 4 Heisman replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Wow, great news! JD has mentioned Odofin in his press conference, but not the other two. I hope the DL is rotated freely so each of these guys get some reps and they all stay relatively fresh during the game. Of course, the guys who are making plays need to stay in the game as much as possible too.Any word on Hazime? He missed last week too.Hasan is ready to play this week. I wouldnt expect to see too much of Odifin. Because he didnt practice much this week, but that could have been because they dont want to risk an injury. But Odifin will for sure play this week. I havent been on the board much lately so i dont know is this was discussed, but didnt Shawn Lemon look good last week? -
I will give you that. People on here have been wanting to switch for a while. But i just hate hearing it through the season even though we have been getting gashed. I will be the first to tell you that i hate to see a team hand the ball off haha. Our D- Line needs the sze and skills of lively and Bain. But i do think we looked better when Wally P came into the game yesterday even though it probably came by a season ending injury to Cowles Stewart. ( not sure about that yet, btw). Yesterday i was wondering why we didnt sub in more D-Lineman i know it is hard to during drives at times, but i thought we could have done a better job.

I love how people on here want to switch defensive schemes during the season. That will never happen on any level probably not even CYO haha. Anyhow i do believe TC is on scholarship now. He may have been put on last spring. He started at Wisconsin because of injuries to Jalil Carter.
-
Something funny about that. It you look closely at the players who all come in at the same time. For the most part they are wearing the same three or so shirt and tie combonations together. That is because they all just rotate the shirts and ties between each other. Some of them come up with some wierd looking combos too it is pretty funny to watch.

you are right about Tuzze...they have been better the last 2 years when he is on the field..JD better figure out this offense will HAVE to run to control the ball 'cuz his D is going to give it up on the ground... use the strength on offense..the OLINE nad the backs...Tuzze would have played more but he got hurt on a play at the end of the first half i believe. You will see all three rb's all season so get used to it. Lively has a broken elbow it will be a few more weeks til we may see him. We played a pretty good game I thought. Especially a good first half. Wisconsin is the real deal and so is there OL and PJ Hill. They may have trouble later in the season when they have to pass the ball more.

To answer some question for all of you. Bowser will be able to play he has practiced the past two days. It inst and injury that will be re-aggravated because it was a scope of his knee to clean up some stuff in there. He couldn't practice because it was swollen, which is normal. Bain would like to play, whether or not he does who knows. He may practice some time this week but we will see. He is really up in the air for Wisconsin but he should be good to go for Syracuse. The injuries dont help at all. When you lose many players at different times it is tough to see what your team is like. JD is not making excuses. For those of you who say JD is just saying stuff about Jacq getting better. He is defiantly not making this stuff up. Jacq looks a whole lot better that last year. Our QB situation is so much better now than it was a year ago. Does he have bad days yes. He has had many more good practices than bad. As for UA1987 wondering about if we have studied the film. That is one thing you can be sure we have done. We pick apart film a lot and have been doing it all summer. If healthy we defiantly have a chance to be good this season.

JD wants to have the top all around special teams unit in the counrty. Last season we were ranked 11th for the all around special teams in the country. (this was figured out by the coaches if you cant find the stat online) If Devoe can helps us achieve this feat with smart play, great power, and athleticism then that is what we have to do. We dont really need Devoe at LB we are deep there and have good players in the spots. Dont be surprised to see Devoe get a few snaps this year at rb, if he is playing on special teams that is.

First things first. Will Fleming was not in a car accident with a drunk driver. He may have been at one time, but his arm was in a sling due to a play during a team period of practice. He separated his shoulder. He also had surgery on the same shoulder once before. So the medical and strength staffs want to make sure he will be ok. Dre Jones is a really great person. He is a very genuine. The Meet the Team was held in the JAR to "accomodate the fans". The marketing department wanted it there because it was air conditioned as were the field house is not. The football staff was not very happy with the decision, but hey if the fans liked it that is what matters for this event right?Bowser will be fine. He just got his knee scooped and should be good to go very soon. Bain is a toss up there are a few things wrong there but we will soon see. My bet, He will be ok and this rest he is recieving during camp will help him a the season progresses. Doug Williams actually has as much if not more game experience than Kevin Grant. Doug is one of our best linebackers and is the defensive team captain, selected by his teammates. He is also a great special teamer. The other linebacking spot is a little questionable, but we have some really talented athletes there. Fobbs has the size you would want to see and can make plays. He is probably out most physically imposing LB. Aaron Williams is a good all around player. Still a little undersized, but fast. Mike Thomas is very solid. He can really put a big hit on the opposing players. All of these players will do a fine job of playing the spot throughout the season, but we will have to figure out which one is the best asap.

I personally would just rather have an earlier game than the 6:00pm start time to all of the game. It makes sense to me to have game more around noon or 1:00.
