  1. Just like I predicted - Poke and Cotton lead the Zips in scoring, with Poke being our most reliable free throw shooter.
  2. Former FAU Recruiting Target
  3. I saw him play against Hudson this year. The kid is Julian Edelman Jr. Tough, strong...I'd LOVE to see him in a Zips uniform.
  4. It would have been interesting for him to use his 5th year of college eligibility to try his hand at offensive line for the football team.
  5. He seems to have a little bit of "Paul Pierce" in him? Coming off the field you'd have thought he had a serious injury. But after a 10 minute break and a re-taping, he was doing sprints up and down the sidelines trying to convince the staff he could return to the game. I'm sure the ankle feels bad today, but I have to believe he's good to go for the 19th. Just my gut feeling.
  6. Went to a couple of the state championship games on Friday. If I'm UA I get some tape on Antonio Salinas from Eastwood HS. Had a monster game - 3 sacks and 6 TFL's. 1st team All Ohio. Played DL, but would be an LB at the next level. 6' 1", 205. Runs track. He's Division 5, so maybe he's under the radar? He looked like a Division 1 college recruit to me.
  7. "Akron is, no matter how you look at it, not a “great” football team. A win Saturday pushes the imagination to conjure up what exactly a great Akron team might be capable of." I like that observation.
  8. IMO - Manny Morgan has become way more effective than Grice was in short yardage situations. Once the defense caught on to Grice, he frequently got stuffed. Morgan seems to find a crease every time.
  9. 100% agree. Every year there's some egregious omission...this year Kyron is the lucky recipient. Hope he uses the Toledo game to show the voters the error of their ways...
  10. Joe gets the Mississippi State gig. Good for him!
  11. Brad Stevens would disagree.
  12. This guy must be Nostradamus's relative?
  13. Love the energy the pics capture! Being out of town for Thanksgiving I'm grateful for the window into the spirit of this Akron - Kent game! Looking forward to Detroit!
  14. Because the game is a lot slower - People aren't scoring every 15 seconds. Do you really want to know when a player goes from 13 to 17 total yards rushing? I can't believe I need to explain this....
  15. Why do you need to make the choice? Did't you watch good basketball for the past 13 years, and have some stats? It is simply bizarre, in 2017, to have a brand new hi-def scoreboard, 4 high-resolution sideboards, and you don't use them to tell the fans the game point, rebound and foul information. Was this equipment installed simply to have grainy footage of elderly people making out on the Kiss Cam? Why does Steve French, during his broadcast, tell you how many points or fouls a player has? It's because fans want to know this information. If I'm at the game, and there are 5 different scoreboards in my immediate viewing area, it is bizarre that I need to check my phone to see how many points Daniel Utomi has scored. It happens no where else in the world but the JAR.
  16. Are you channeling great grandpa UA 1887?
  17. Then why have the player's name on the back of the jersey? Blatant focus on the individual as far as I'm concerned. I remain extremely worried how we will ever win on the road, with the opponent's scoreboard keeping running tallies of our players points and fouls. And, what if a member of True Blue yells out "HEY DUVIVIER...YOU HAVE 9 POINTS AND THREE FOULS!!" while we're at Buffalo? Crap...we're doomed. It does give me a deeper appreciation for Keith Dambrot, who won 87 percent of the games he coached at the JAR despite having the player's points and fouls being displayed at both ends of the floor. The guy was a miracle worker.
  18. I never saw individual player stats the entire UT Martin game. Maybe I just looked at the wrong time? Game 1 I noticed them multiple times. Guess we'll see how it evolves as the season progresses...
  19. It's a two hour game, and there are multiple state-of-the-art scoreboards. You can display both.
  20. For anyone who was driven to drink by the 2016-17 Zips guard's ole' defense...you have to be loving Duvivier's defensive footwork. Not only is he physically big...he does a great job of getting to the spot before the offensive player. He's fast become my favorite Zip. Beyond the defense, his confidence in his own offensive game is awesome. No hesitation on his jumper when he has space, and drives the lane when it's open. Love him.
  21. Poke needs to look for the alley-oop. That was his bread and butter last season. There were at least 2 occasions where the Zip ball handler was looking for that play, and Poke was not paying attention. Groce seems like a very detail-oriented guy. I'm sure Poke's offense will be addressed.
  22. I cannot believe that we would spend the money for new, state-of-the-art scoreboards and not use them to display individual stats. It had to be a glitch with the new software, or perhaps there was no student available to enter the data. There's no way a college head coach would prevent stats from being placed on the scoreboard. Individual stats are displayed at every level of basketball. What do you do for road games...tell your players (shaking your finger at them) - "Don't you even think about looking up at the scoreboard or I'll bench you!". The individual stats appeared on the side boards in game #1. Hopefully they return for the UT Chattanooga game.
