  1. Wagon Wheel Mac n Cheese. Love it!
  2. I am not on the Parrish/Diggs bandwagon. Diggs was a whirling dervish, and Parrish is a cool cucumber. I'm as bullish on his potential as any Zip I've seen in some time. His defense needs work, but that will come. Offensively, he's beyond his years. Kostelac had a nice block. We'll need him as we face bigger front courts. Looking forward to his minutes increasing as the season progresses. Cotton needs some adjustment time to D-1 hoops. But I like his flair. I look for him to make a big jump from game 1 to game 2. Love his free throw stroke. Duvivier's dunk is a Top 5 JAR all-timer. I liked his comments after the game when French and Dunn were gushing over it. Loosely quoted - "That was my 'welcome to Akron' dunk. I'll have a couple more of those this year." He reminds me of a shorter Gary Trent. liked that Groce ran some inbound plays rather that just tossing the ball in to the tallest Zip. Looks like a loveable team that we can rally around and watch grow. My family enjoyed watching game 1 of the Groce era!
  3. Somewhere Alex Abreu, Quincy Diggs, Tree Treadwell and Chris Jaquemain are tipping their caps to Thomas Woodson for his discretion. Tradition never graduates. Go Zips.
  4. Woodson suspended for the Miami game.
  5. What's clearly happening is - we are a better team than our opponents. I don't see any good fortune in beating Pine Bluff, BG, BSU, WMU and Buffalo.
  6. I disagree. In the fantasy world where we are 3-6 instead of 5-4, we would have a different coach and players. Because the ones we have in the real world are 5-4. That's inarguable. They made winning plays that the fantasy 3-6 team didn't make. No better or worse fortune than anyone else. Ball and Guiser are our two team captains, and they didn't make it half way through the season. How fortunate is that?
  7. ...and if the Troy WR would have dropped the ball on their 4th and 5 play, we'd have won instead of lost...and if my aunt had nuts she'd be my uncle... The Zips earned their wins against Buffalo and WMU. The D made some awesome stands at the end of those games. Hopefully we beat Miami in convincing fashion. A simple 3-point win where the Zips defense holds the opponent under 21 points isn't quite enough to keep some fans from focusing on how they might have lost, rather than how they won.
  8. Needed to start an official game thread.
  9. I sort of agree, because Miami looked a lot better on Tuesday night than I wanted them to look. I like that our staff had the chance to get together and watch the Miami/OU game. There's not much Miami can do that will be a surprise. We'll be coming off a pseudo bye-week and a win, so we'll be fresh and confident. I think it should be a great MAC football game.
  10. Choke complete. Time for bed.
  11. I want to go to bed, but I want to see wmu choke this one away. Tough call...
  12. Good to see her ruining the game experience of other MAC fans besides me.
  13. Who cares...we've got Deltron! Get ready for the Sands Storm™, Miami!
  14. One of the things that stood out to me regarding Miami was their aggressive offensive play calling. They have no fear of putting the ball in the air when they're pinned deep in their own territory. They're tough to defend. Good balance of the run and pass. I can't believe they lost to Kent.
  15. Figured a match up so critical to the Zips' championship aspirations merited a game day thread....
  16. Nope. 10 wins is a horrible by pretty much anyone but Dan Hipsher's post-Crawford standards. I'll expect .500 basketball, and hope for better.
  17. 6k? (3k OU + 3k UA) I assume they're pull the free scholarship deal for the students, or some other similar promo. I'm done for 2017 Zips games unless it's Detroit, or a bowl game. Work obligations. Have a beer for me, my friend.
  18. I'm no doctor, but from my vantage point it looked like a stinger. It appeared he got the feeling back in his arm, and re-entered the game. If it is a bigger issue, hopefully the extra recuperation time from our "semi-bye week" helps.
  19. And he called Keener "a bitter member of the venomous minority"! I'd love to have seen Buffalo coached by Elton Alexander, with George Thomas as the offensive coordinator. I bet the game's result would have been completely different. I-and-II-o would be the star of that staff. Go Zips!
  20. I felt we would roll because a freshman QB was scheduled to start for Buffalo. He didn't. We won. Again. Go Zips!
  21. Kyle Vantrease couldn't beat Hudson last season, so he certainly won't beat the Zips. Look for the Zips to romp. 38-16
  22. Miami, Buffalo and Kent are at, or below our competitive level. Those need to be "W's." OU has the advantage of being a steady winner for an extended period. We're still figuring out how to win. But at home, a bowl-worthy Zips team should match up well with the Bobcats. No excuses...we're healthy, and in-line for a championship berth. Time to roll.
  23. Two star recruits can turn around a basketball program in one season. Turning around an 85 student football program takes time. Especially turning around one that was the absolute worst in D-1A. If Bowden would have chosen from Day 1 to recruit freshmen, redshirt them and slowly build a program, he would have been fired within 3-4 years max. You don't win with 18 and 19 year olds. And no AD in today's world waits 4 years to become competitive. So Bowden chose to heavily utilize transfers in the beginning. And we became relatively competitive in a short time. And being relatively competitive allowed us to get a nice recruiting class this past February, and redshirt most of them. For the first time, we have some depth, and can let players develop. This year's recruiting class, by seemingly everyone's estimation, is Bowden's best to-date. The bulk of those kids will be redshirted, and we have the makings of a deep, year-in-year-out competitive upper-tier MAC program. I see us winning 3 of our remaining 4 games. 7-5 would be a great season considering our original circumstances, and the future would look bright too. Our program is now appealing to some decent HS talent. That's my view. Like it or not.
  24. Love those 20-win seasons in basketball. Om nom nom.
