  1. We aren't. They just decided to use our name.
  2. Kent drops below.500 with a 12-point home loss to Northeastern.
  3. CK kiss of death alert - NIU beating Marquette on FSN1 well into the 2nd half. Look for Marquette to go on a 20-0 run soon.
  4. In the end, the Bracket Buster was a watered-down Bracket Buster. I think home-home games with the likes of MTSU, Oral Roberts, NDSU, Drake, Valpo...those are all possible if UA wants them, even without ESPN.
  5. The upper-mid majors (VCU, Gonzaga, Nevada, Butler, Creighton, Wichita State type programs) began separating themselves from the mid-mid majors, and backed out. With most of the bracket-busting "Cinderella potential" programs gone, I think that killed ESPN's interest.
  6. I miss the old "Bracket Buster" match ups.
  7. MTSU and loyal, long-time coach Kermit Davis have built the mid-major basketball program we all hoped Keith Dambrot could have built at Akron. 25+ wins per year. Winning NCAA tournament games. They've already beaten Vanderbilt and Mississippi this year. Dambrot did a great job at Akron. Davis did a better one at MTSU.
  8. I was thinking the same thing. As of today, Akron Football is preparing for a bowl game and it appears our key recruits are Tweeting that they'll be early signees. Kent hasn't played or practiced since we beat them a 3 weeks ago, and has no coach. Word on the street is Otterbein and Muskingum are poaching their recruits.
  9. Update on Kent's Head Coach search
  10. Beer sales at Toledo and BG
  11. Per Groce's post game comments last week - "We know the possibility exists that E-man will be out of the game. Sayles and Kostelac need to get better. It's our job to make them better."
  12. Stanford has slightly better talent than the Zips, but seemed to want the win more than the Zips. They played with aggression and a will to win the entire match. For the most part, the Zips played too mechanical and tepid. They never came close to matching Stanford's intensity. I don't mind losing to a better team, and that's what the Zips did tonight. They had an awesome season... just fell a little short of a National Championship. Not too shabby.
  13. His name surfaces every so often in the "What ever happened to him..." category. Grad Assistant at 13-0 IUP. "Franco is joined on head coach Paul Tortorella’s IUP coaching staff by his younger brother Stevie, a graduate assistant coach who is working with the defense and handling assignments like putting together the scout team playbook for the IUP players. “He played with 70 percent of the current players, so he knows how to talk to these guys and he’s a nice go-between guy between the players and coaches,” Johnny Franco said of Stevie, a former all-state quarterback at Tyrone who started for three years as a safety at IUP after transferring there from the University of Akron. “He’s helped us a lot since he’s been in the system for so long.”
  14. 2pm starts are better than noon. I still prefer centering my Saturday evening around a 7 pm Zips BB game, getting a couple near-campus beers and some food prior to the game. At least with a 2 pm start I can get my errands run in the morning, and have Saturday evening free to do whatever.
  15. I am thinking 20 on the nose, with 18 in the regular season, and two more in the MAC tourney. An injury to any starter would make my 20-win my prediction look really bad.
  16. We have a pretty good Engineering department at UA. Maybe some physics major can figure this one out?
  17. Good point...the shirt cannon killed Maude Flanders.
  18. We have a "cannon" that shoots tee shirts into the second row. I feel bad for the kids up top...they scream like crazy for a shirt, and 99.7% of them land in Blue Hair Land. How many shirts can the elderly use? We need an "Adult Diaper Cannon" if we aren't going to fix that thing.
  19. A friend of mine was listening to the radio feed and said Frenchy mentioned someone from Groce's staff noticed Smith playing ball in the UA Rec Center and asked him to join the team.
  20. Just like I predicted - Poke and Cotton lead the Zips in scoring, with Poke being our most reliable free throw shooter.
  21. Former FAU Recruiting Target
  22. I saw him play against Hudson this year. The kid is Julian Edelman Jr. Tough, strong...I'd LOVE to see him in a Zips uniform.
  23. It would have been interesting for him to use his 5th year of college eligibility to try his hand at offensive line for the football team.
