  1. Only players who are academically eligible are listed. If a player was a non-qualifier in 2009, he is not eligible in the spring of 2010.Or -- If he was eligible in fall '09, and had a bad report card, he's also not eligible for the spring of 2010.Just because they are not on the spring roster doesn't mean they are off the team. You're welcome.
  2. I think you are joking, but if not, there is a huge disparity between an athletic men's team vs. an average athletic men's team compared to an athletic women's team vs. average women's teams. Anyway, great win and lets hope the men's team will follow through with a similiar effort tommorow (since it's after midnight) I should say later today.Regardless, point is proven. Athleticism does not win basketball games on its own. The negativity regarding Can't being "more athletic" on this board is ridiculous. Can't won because they wanted it more and executed better...period. The Zips can beat them if they play their game and play with some more heart.Quade Milum was Dambrot's most athletic recruit. Not a very good basketball player, however.
  3. BuckZip post in 3..2...1...
  4. And unfortunately, that was pretty evident throughout most of the 80 minutes we've played against those guys this year. So how do you beat a team like Ken+ if you know that they are superior to you? Can you come up with a scheme to beat them? Can you take away what they do best? Can you expose them defensively? Will we change something if we play them again? If our coach goes in with the same game plan and doesn't try something different, I will be disappointed. Does anybody have an example of KD beating a team that was superior where he "out coached" the other team? Will he tighten the rotation? How did other teams beat Ken+? I need some hope if we play Ken+ again.Hopefully the answer to the how do you beat Can't question is you play them when it is the third day in a row playing. Since their style is more up tempo than ours and our rotation has the ability to go a little deeper into the bench if a third meeting happens the Zips' legs may be a little fresher. I'm just worried about getting to the title game first though. I really think the rest of the teams remaining in the MAC tournament have all improved quite a bit over the last month or two. We've already lost to EMU and Central by no means was a cakewalk for the Zips either if you recall. These teams are better now than they were when those matchups took place. Can KD install the Princeton Offense in less than a week? I think that would be highly effective against K.e.n.t.
  5. Again, I'll state - You can never get rid of every idiot a-hole. When you get 5,500 people in a gym, someone...I'll call him "0.1% Guy"...is going to say something totally out of line. Usually, that guy is a teenager, and he's drunk.Coming on ZipsNation to tell people not to joke about May 4th accomplishes nothing. Everyone on ZipsNation knows it. There were scores of K.e.n.t.-related jokes on our site this past week, and scores appear every time we play K.e.n.t. Never once was May 4th mentioned.
  6. Congrats to Jimmy C. Great to see his hard work get rewarded!Hopefully he still has a couple double-doubles left in him before graduation?
  7. I've seen worse.
  8. I think 99% of all fans are good. But people love to make examples of the 1% that aren't.There was one particular post I removed from our site that I will only say was "highly embarrassing" to ZipsNation. That single sentence was plucked and dropped on a K.e.n.t. message board as an example of "typical" Zips fan's behavior.Of course, the K.e.n.t. fan that plucked that information failed to mention the 5,200 Zips fans that gave Laing Kennedy a standing ovation prior to the game. Or the fact that UA was classy enough to recognize the guy.99.9% of ZipsNation represented great on Friday night. Don't get hung up on the 0.1%. It's not worth it.
  9. The question arose in another thread - "Who's better than Terry Pluto?"Judging from the ABJ link above...I say - Tom Gaffney.
  10. ObitI placed this in the Football Forum only because of the guy's battle vs. UA regarding InfoCision. And, I guess, because the news merited a little more visibility than the "General Discussions" forum offers. I probably had 1,000 beers in The Sun over the past 25 years. Joe was a cool guy. A bit of a wingnut, but everyone is a bit of a wingnut.Pest in Peace, Joey.
  11. Brooks wasn't recruited by Dambrot. Brooks transferred to UA on his own, with the hope of walking on.When I say "transfer" I am talking about a kid who went to a BCS program and didn't fit in. Or the coach left. Etc.Two other nice transfers: K.e.n.t.'s Demetric Shaw & Antonio Gates. They panned out ok.
  12. "Explosive" is going off for 30 points or 14 assists or 20 rebounds. Roberts is anything but explosive, at least this season. Steward is quick, but has yet to show he's anything but a "change-of-pace back" to McNees. If either were on K.e.n.t's roster, they wouldn't see double digit minutes.
  13. I see the debate over KD's practice of recruiting 4-year players vs. "other" approaches.Look at the Erick Howard thread. Zips fans throw a fit if the football coach takes one chance out of 25 scholarships on a kid with bad grades. How would they react if hoops coach took one chance out of three or four? The biggest risk KD has taken with a scholarship was Darrel Roberts (bad grades). That's about as risky as getting behind the wheel after 2 Bud Lights.Zips Basketball Guy couldn't handle a JUCO. Or a kid with a "history." He couldn't stomach it.Good to see Jodi Kest use a couple of JUCO's to upgrade her hoops team though. But that must only work in women's hoops?Who was the toughest kid to play under Dambrot? Probably Wood. But Dials...a transfer...would also get a lot of votes.Best player of the Hipsher era? Rashon Brown? Transfer. Or Jamie Bosley? Transfer. Tarver (JUCO)? No. But he kept his nose fairly clean while he was on campus. You can't say he was a bad gamble.Where would Bob Huggins have been without JUCO transfer Marcel Boyce? Interesting debate...
  14. Wife just made some Mac-n-Cheese. That should get me back on track.
  15. I suggest that you carry a barf bag around with you. Whenever players run faster and jump higher than those they're playing against, and use those abilities to make their opponents appear slow and soft, the "A" word will be used frequently by douche bags and non-douche bags alike. The most "A" team doesn't always win. There are other aspects of the game that can compensate for lack of "A." But all other things being equal, the team with the most "A" will usually win.You are allegedly a writer. How would you grade another writer who uses one adjective? How interesting is it to read? If spoken, how interesting is it to listen to?If all one has to say about K.e.n.t.'s basketball team is "they are athletic...they are more athletic than the Zips...they have great athleticism...etc" then that person obviously has a shallow knowledge of the game.I like reading and listening to people that offer depth and insight. If all you bring to the table is "athletic," you're shallow and pedantic.
  16. 1.) This Zips team is built to win in the MAC. And it does so with great efficiency. This team is not built to win beyond the MAC. K.e.n.t. State, however, is.2.) Kudos to the Athletics Department for pulling off the Wipe...er...White Out. The idea was originally ridiculed on ZN. But like all good quality ridicule, suggestions were offered to actually pull it off. UA listened and got sponsors for the shirts, and also sold white shirts for 5 bucks at the game. Again, nice job.3.) Simpson is cold-blooded. Nick Dials used to be that way. Joyce was that way. We presently have no cold-blooded players on our team. Humpty is as close as we get, and he's too inconsistent to be an assasin.4.) The myth of our home court record continues to be exposed. We build a nice one in the Joyce-Travis years, but we're pretty mortal at home anymore.5.) K.e.n.t. fans pumped up their team. Kudos to them. An excellent showing.6.) Joe Akron is very near an irreversible come. HUGE, HUGE egg laid by the Zips tonight. We never even competed. At home, for the championship, on ESPN2, coverage by all the local news media, sold out arena....and we played like scared little girls.7.) Ke.n.t. is on-par with VCU, Rhode Island, etc. 8.) If I hear some douche bag use the term "athletic" to describe K.e.n.t. one more time, I'll puke. 9.) K.e.n.t. goes strong to the hoop. Our soft players shoot threes and fade-aways. We shy away from contact. K.e.n.t. welcomes it.10.) I'll be at the Q this coming week supporting the Zips. And praying that someone knocks off K.e.n.t. Because if we play K.e.n.t. again, it will be another double-digit beatdown. Oh... One "bonus note" - Thanks to AM 1350 for the ZN shout outs. We appreciate it.
  17. Most accurate, single-sentence post that will be written today. They messed it up.
  18. Tough call on the crap-down-the-leg.IMO - Crapping down your leg is more tied to blowing a huge lead. Last night, the Zips got waxed by a superior team. No crapping...we simply aren't in K.e.n.t.'s league, metaphorically speaking of course, Zipmeister.
  19. Would you also agree that water is hot when it is boiling? It depends upon the atmospheric pressure:
  20. Just go to the game. There is always someone with an extra hanging out front.
  21. So we should play St Francis on the road? Problem solved. Our SOS was weak for one reason - Our schedule was weak. Funny how that works out.
  22. lets be fair cap'n about 80,000 of those came on the stadium thread but this is a great arguement but the one counterpoint I would like to bring to you is. how many people are doing the posting? are we a small family that likes to argue over thanksgiving or do we have a wider following than I know of? not trying to start an argument just a friendly questionThe Stadium Thread has 1,821 posts. Slightly shy of 80,000.How many people post? - Easily in excess of 100 different people post in a typical week. At least during the school sports year. It dips after hoops conclude.Just glancing at who's on the site right now -13 members are reading the board, and 27 "guests" are reading the board. That's 40 people using our site at this very moment. Those 40 will go, and another 40 will take their place in 15 minutes.
  23. Here are the most carcinogenic cigarettes ever produced:
  24. Most accurate, single-sentence post that will be written today.
  25. If "response emails" were the only metric to measure MAC fan interest, then Pluto would be correct. On ZipsNation, we have 100,000 posts to-date. Actual posts from real people who want to talk MAC...specifically The University of Akron sports.Let me repeat: 100,000!I posted a short note on the gravity of tonight's game on ZN. I got 56 responses? There are in excess of 200 posts, and thousands of views on the subject of tonight's game on ZN. Seems like there IS some interest? Just because I don't clap like a trained seal the three times per year Pluto writes something about the Zips program doesn't mean there's no interest in the program. The MAC finals will draw roughly 13,000 people to The Q. But because no one writes to Terry Pluto, there must be no interest? He needs to get off his high horse. I tired of Pluto in the late 90's. While Hipsher and Crawford were bringing Akron Basketball to it's knees, he kept writing "The Little Engine that Could" columns about the scrappy, underdog Zips. He never had the guts to call for change. And at the time, his opinion carried some weight. He fiddled while Rome burned. I can see how people in their 20's love Pluto. They're young. Wait until you're in your 40's and you've read his cookie-cutter columns 50 times. Then he isn't so awe-inspiring.I can see why senior citizens love Pluto. He's now a big religious guy. Older people eat that up.He's vanilla. I prefer writers with some sort of opinion or edge. If he's not getting responses, maybe he needs to look in the mirror rather than point fingers?
