  1. +1I've never seen a problem with Buffalo fans, except .....Never mess with the national anthem.Never. No way. No how. No matter how cool you may think it might sound to amplify "home of the brave(s)", most patriotic citizens will rightfully consider it disrespectful of the true meaning and purpose of our national anthem, and think less of the University at Buffalo and its students. The Rowdies amplify "...and the hooooome of the Zips" all the time. Why no complaints until Buffalo did it?The Rowdies only do it when the band or a recording is playing. Never when there is a choir or singer, out of respect to their performance. What is the difference? The National Anthem is The National Anthem. Be it sung by the the little kid sitting next to you, played from a recording, or sung by a choir. To call out the Bulls fans as "not very classy" is hypocritical.

  3. It's okay, I drove up to Buffalo this year to see a football game where the refs wanted Buffalo to win more than I did.
  4. That 17% was for a single season.Owens had a 70% graduation rate. Once. He also had several under 50%.Here (click me) is an Owens class with a 36% graduation rate. Do you define Owens' graduation rates by that single class?Owens started out recruiting kids with average talent, and good grades. That was to offset the poor graduation rates and player retention of the preceding Faust years. Owens then realized he was never going to win a championship with this talent, so he began taking academic risks. And the retention/graduation rates dropped.Brookhart went balls-out with at-risk kids his first couple seasons and failed big time. Then he went after a better caliber of student athlete...but it was too late. Blowing two consecutive recruiting classes was too much to overcome.
  5. If he comes to UA, we get a Parade All-American. If he doesn't, it didn't cost us squat. If I'm in Vegas and I have a 50/00 chance to win $1million dollars. And there's absolutely no risk...I simply need to say "I accept the gamble"...ummmmm...I take that bet.If you use Brookhart's player retention as an example, you are really, really grasping for straws. Brookhart based two full recruiting classes on kids like Howard. Ianello is basing one single scholarship out of 23 on an at-risk kid.
  6. they do tend to copy cheers from other schools, so I wouldn't be surprised....If you don't hear exactly what they are saying, sometimes ZI - PS can sound a lot like that.ok thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't able to make the game and was watching it on t.v and my roommate and myself both thought we heard it. I know the every student section at every school steals stuff I'm just happy that our Rowdies haven't stooped to the level of "we are, uncreative" hell I even heard OSU students doing that at a game onceSome time ago I posted a story about a Marshall fan who actually tracked-down an Penn State supporter in a grocery store parking lot to give him grief. Apparently the Penn State guy had a bumper sticker that read "We Are - Penn State!" The Marshall fan was angry that Penn State had ripped off their "We Are - Marshall" cheer.Every cheer has already been done by every high school and college. OH - IO isn't integral calculus. It's been done in 1,000 forms by 1,000 different fan groups. ZI - PS is fun. I like it.
  7. Apology accepted.
  8. No it's totally different. It's like saying he likes spaghetti or had a pet hamster as a kid. Are you for real? Great argument. No...no I would not care if you called Solich anything. I don't care about Solich. I do care about University of Akron coaches. Again - are you for real? Is that your best counterpoint? You define Dambrot by something he said 15 years ago, but you can't be defined by something you wrote 4 years ago. And which you don't seem to mind being appearing on your school's message board to this day. At least, until it gets called out. Then, rather than apologize for it as a stupid youthful mistake, you try to spin it to oversensitivity on a Zips fan's part? I would respect an apology. I don't respect spin. Maybe, just maybe, you haven't shown him your cute sign?
  9. Echews big office, for now.
  10. Your lack of class is never acceptable to me. Not in 2006. Not in 2010.You call Coach Dambrot a racist. That is a major, MAJOR accusation. You actually spent the time to create a cute sign to show at the Convo calling him a racist, accuse him of punching a player, etc. Now you come on our board dressed up as some gracious OU fan and try to drive traffic to your web site.If people want to check out your site, so be it. But it is incumbent upon me to let ZN members know who they're supporting. That picture was posted on bobcatattack.com as recently as January 2010. If it is 4 years old, you sure are getting a lot of mileage out of it. I hope you are proud of it.If I made a "Frank Solich is a Drunk" sign four years ago after his arrest, and milked it to this day, it would take some serious stones for me to go on bobcatattack.com and act like I'm some sweetheart Zips fan. And I couldn't even imagine how I could justify asking them them to support my business. You reap what you sew.
  11. I know I promised you the last word, but since you said "please" -* I can't recall Zac Derr being on anyone's September NFL roster.* Jamie Reader was recruited by Faust, not Owens. That's all I'll offer. I'm a man of my word. And - I will surely share my weed with you.
  12. If Dave in Green and Zipgrad01 got into a posting "war," would it ever end? It would be the ZN version of the eternal flame.
  13. He plays for Scott Co. highschool. Here is an article about the Kentucky State tournament. Euton is mentioned.http://www.kentucky.com/2010/02/20/1149982...tournament.htmlA JR VanHoose (Marshall)mention too? I always liked him. Him, Tamar Slay and Ron Blackshear...how was Marshall so mediocre with those guys playing? Different, era in MAC hoops, that's for sure.
  14. "Quietly closing in on a 25-win season""This is the MAC’s best team, no question"So apparently they are the MAC's best team and it's not even arguable (even though they lost to Miami, Buffalo destroyed them on the road, BG took them out at Can't, and they haven't played at Akron yet). And I guess that makes them the best team in the MAC, even though Akron has the same conference record and is the defending champion.Think before you write fellas...Don't take it too seriously. This is the guy that wrote it:
  15. Kind of twisted statistics.Brake never played a down in the NFL. Cherry never played an NFL down. You left out Kemme. Corner transferred from BG, then played all 4 years under Brookhart.Under the circumstances, Owens did a nice job in his 9 years. Wait three more years and then compare Brookhart's 9 (last 3 under Ianello) to Owens' 9. It will be fairly close. Will you give Brookhart any credit if "his" players do well under Ianello? I wonder...I don't have the strength to beat the Owens vs. Brookhart horse any more. The last word is yours.
  16. I thought you wanted to keep traffic level up to attract paying sponsors to fund the site. There aren't enough sponsors in the world to pay for the bandwidth you're consuming.
  17. 17-point ass-kickings at the hands of 4th place CAA teams will do that.If you can puff your chest out after that loss, good for you. You coping mechanisms are far superior to anyone else's on this board. And as a Zips fan, you don't know how valuable a gift from God that is. Cherish it.What's with this persistence in trying to portray an imaginary character who doesn't exist? No one is expressing pride or puffing out their chest over the loss no matter what someone's imagination may be telling them. It has simply been dispassionately noted that some aspects of the Zips play were not as bad as others, and that some in fact were as good or better than those of the team that whipped them. That objective observation in no way mitigates the reality and the pain of such a loss, and no Zips fan is smoking a victory cigar over it.Not everyone looks at everything in the world in stark black and white terms. Some try to examine and analyze a situation and see many shades of gray ranging from extremely dark to extremely light. If you shut your eyes after a loss, then everything is pitch black. If you try to keep your eyes and mind open to analyze what went wrong, you begin to see the nuances in shades of gray. This is the kind of analysis that good coaches and players should try to do after losing a game. It's also a valid option for fans to consider. The same applies after a big win. Not everything will have worked to perfection in a win, and the best coaches and players will analyze the various shades of gray in different performance categories and focus on improving in the darker (weaker) areas. This is also a valid option for fans to consider. There are also fans who want to soak in their misery after a loss and spread their misery around on sports forums. They only see black, and are offended that anyone dares mention shades of gray. They try to portray those who see shades of gray as Pollyannas who see everything only in pure white. That doesn't work because it's not true, no matter how many times it may be repeated. You write too much.

  19. Hilaroius rationalizations going on within this thread. God bless those of you that take pride in a lacklustre 17-point ass-kicking on national television.Looking at our starting 5 vs. VCU's starting 5....I would feel very comfortable in saying VCU had the better player at every position. None of our starting 5 would sniff the court if placed on VCU's roster. And we are talking about VCU, not Gonzaga. The 4th place team in the CAA is miles ahead of the Zips program. It was to be expected. We get smoked in OOC games like this all the time. But you never get numb to it.We are slow...we can't finish around the rim...we can't shoot...can't hit a free throw...and people wonder why there's 2000 empty seats at the JAR every home game.If VCU's players magically appeared on Akron's roster. And we saw their athleticism, tenacity, skill, giant-killing ability, NCAA tourney-worthiness, etc. on display on a weekly basis, we'd all be fighting for seats on game day, paying PSL's along with our season tix, and legitimately expecting to make some noise in the post season. Could you imagine watching a great team like that, with great opponents, on a weekly basis? It would be awesome. The VCU game was yet another wake up call to a lot of fans who've been very patiently waiting for our program to elevate. I'm tired of hitting the snooze bar. Other than Mississippi State, we've lost every one of these regular season OOC games for the past 6 seasons. When does it stop? I'm not asking for the moon here...I just want to be competitive with a middle of the pack CAA program. Is that asking too much? The upcoming Buffalo game will be very fun. The K.e.n.t. game will be a blast. The MAC Tourney is always a great time. No I'm not chugging Drano after a loss to VCU. But I am dispondent over the reality of the state of the Zips program with respect to the remainder of mid-major college basketball. UA should write a letter of apology to ESPN who's given us GREAT opponents, and by doing so also give us a guaranteed GREAT return game (thank God, becuse otherwise we'd see more NC A&T's)...and we never hold up our end of the deal. I look forward to a game against Detroit or Robert Morris next year. And by the way - Congratulations to K.e.n.t. Very exciting win last night. Looked great on TV. Unfortuanately, it was a hollow victory. They had fewer rebounds and steals than Western Carolina.
  20. No. Nobody does. No one in the Athletics Department. Radio. TV. Newspapers. We operate in a sterile cocoon. Just fans.
  21. Exactly my point. How or why would anyone know he went to Akron? All he talked about was tosu...Guys like CB need to get in front of the media and promote UA. It would go a long way to validating our program and then maybe he wouldn't be asked such a question...I think a lot of the problem also stems from our constantly changing Athletics Department staff. If you recall under Mike Thomas' administration we had a spring game where Frye, Blackburn, Taylor and a bunch of other former Zips attended. I guess they put a big effort into getting football alumni back into the UA "loop."I recall one administrator telling me - "I called Jason Taylor and asked if he'd like to make a donation. He said 'sure,' and then said...'no one's ever asked me before?"In the short time Thomas' group was here they did more than build the practice facility and get the stadium off the blocks. Look in the JAR. All those coaches murals in the corners were installed during that time. All the championship banners hanging from the rafters were raised during that time. Eric McLaughlin's jersey was retired during that time. Thomas' group did a great job of bringing former Zips back into the fold, and also promoting the history of Zips athletics that had been forgotten in some Memorial Hall closet for a couple decades. Then Thomas left, and it all stopped. UA needs to be in Blackburn's face. Give the guy t-shirts and caps. Invite him back for the golf outings and spring practices. Ditto Hixon. And Frye. And others. And if they can't make it in one season, you call them back in 6 months and try again. It's pretty simple. If you see Chase Blackburn wearing an OSU shirt underneath his jersey, I blame UA, not Chase.
  22. Is OZoner this guy, or not?
  23. Did Butler sit around and wait for the rest of the Horizon to get better?Did Boise State football sit around and wait for the rest of the non-BCS football programs to get better? We need to improve ourselves. What Eastern Michigan or Ball State choose to do should have no bearing on the Zips. Unless they are the ones who make the investment required to dominate the MAC, and we luckily knock them off in the MAC finals every once in a while.Like Butler's done to the rest of the Horizon, we can make the MAC our bitch if we make the investment to do so. If we don't, we won't.
  24. I think the guy is dead-nuts on.If Gonzaga slips up in their post season tourney, their conference gets 2-bids.If Northern Iowa slips up in their conference tourney, their conference gets 2-bids.If Butler slips up in their conference tourney, their conference gets 2-bids.If a MAC leader slips up in the MAC Championship...it gets an NIT.It hurts the MAC that no one dominates. In the only recent period where someone did dominate (K.e.n.t.), they won it all anyhow.
