In a world of uncertainty, there is too much on the line for schools to throw a game. Unless it is a Toledo football game.

What if we have a regular season championship, but lose to a 24-5 K.e.n.t. team in the MAC finals? What if Zeke went 18ppg/13rpg and led us to a legit 24-5 record, where we actually beat California and Dayton during the regular season? Just because we aren't NCAA tourney material today doesn't mean we need to resign ourselves to never being NCAA tourney material. If we continue to schedule weakly, and lose to all our decent OOC opponents, it is a moot point. But I refuse to resign myself to that scenario.

you stray from your point.your point is that moving the three point line adversely affects mid-majors.but you have no proof.i offer proof that it has not had any affect on midmajors.ithink it has had an effect of bad shooters like brettmcknight.but gud shooter's like steve mcnees never shoot with their toe on the line anyhow they always shoot from a foot behind the line.i wuld like to see you find any proof that midmajor teams fared worse in ooc play in 2009-10.you can waste your life searching but it will be fruitless.learn from me and not kenny roda or dork vitale.you will become a wiser more rounded person.the next time one of your friends tells you that the threepoint line hurtz midmajors tell him he is full of it and set yourself free.

Ok...fess up...who else fell asleep after reading the first sentence-and-a-half?

That is the "parrot," theoretical company line. The theory has not played-out in practice. Prove to me that moving the line has actually affected a mid-major's ability to compete with a high major? It hasn't. The proof is in this year's regular season. The proof is in this year's tourney. Saint Mary's Butler Northern Iowa Cornell If anything, it appears to have helped the mid major. The Sweet 16 has more mid majors than ever. Translation for RACER: that is the "parrot," theoretical company line, the theory has not played-out in practice.prove to me that moving the line has actually affected a mid-major's ability to compete with a high major.it hasn't.the proof is in this year's regular season.the proof is in this year's tourney. saint mary's butler northern iowa cornell if anything, it appears to have helped the mid major.the sweet 16 has more mid majors than ever.

I think this pretty well illustrates the argument. Many people on here have been equating athletic with good. The more athletic team seems to generally be considered to be the better team around here right now. I don't think there is anyone in the country that would say Cornell is anywhere near on the same page as Kentucky as far as athletes. Most wouldn't even put them in the same conversation with Temple and Wisconsin whom they handily disposed of over the weekend. It is difficult being a visionary..to not simply parrot what one hears on some pathetic local radio show or gleans from some wing nut's blog...but to come up with original, thought-provoking observations. But someone has to be that person. To all the Athletic Supporters on ZN I say - You are welcome. Why do I feel like GP1?

What's your point? The 3-point shot is a part of the game. If that is what it takes to beat a team, it's legal. Who cares if it is the only way to beat a team that can't defend it? How did moving the line back hurt Butler? How'd it hurt Northern Iowa? How'd it hurt OU? How'd it affect Medlock or Kool's game? Moving the line back did absolutely nothing to hurt mid-major schools.

I cut it out...it just didn't fit in the flow of the post. While it ended up on the cutting room floor, the line remains true. "Zips Basketball guy" can always call out a few fans for alleged anarchy against Dambrot or the Zips program. I sat in the lower reserved section, in several different areas because my son can't sit still...and everywhere I sat during that game you could hear disgruntled fans voicing discontent. In front of me...behind me...to the side of me. The team tanked it, and those 877 fans who care the most...knew it.

Once again, Zipboy proves why he's the top poster on ZipsNation. He's not just "defense," not just "offense," he's the total package. The one truth in the ZB post that bugs me is -- "If the schedule does toughen up, that will be a good sign as I see KD changing the schedule with how much he likes his team's chances." Dambrot has stated that's his scheduling strategy. He also stated that strategy cost Travis and Joyce a shot at the post season, when the Zips played a weak schedule their senior year. How do you know how you'll fare in a given season? Who can predict that youngsters will step up, or that Conyers will fulfill his potential in year #5? Why was the 2009-10 schedule so pathetically weak, if we were coming off an NCAA appearance, only losing one senior? By KD's formula, shouldn't we have been in "Tough Schedule Mode?" Playing weak OOC schedules does nothing for a mid major like Akron. Is Miami any worse off that Akron today? Is Cleveland State any worse than Akron today? The only difference, today, is Akron has egg on it's face because we participated in a tourney we really weren't worthy of entering. CSU and Miami's season records were actually indicative of their abilities and they sat at home instead of going to the CBI. Smart move. Play a tough schedule EVERY season. Not "stupid-tough," but tough enough that if you get 20+ wins, it is an accomplishment. And you can be proud of your post season bid.

OU Dance Team Member: Unusual or Visionary?
Captain Kangaroo replied to Zip Watcher's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
If you're using this line of thinking, male cheerleaders are the real visionaries then. Id rather be a male cheerleader than a dancer.. I disagree. There's nothing visionary doing something that's done everywhere, and that's been done for decades. Beyond that, if you are a male cheerleader, you're in competition with 4-5 other guys. If you are the dance team guy you're on the cutting edge, and it's 1-on-10. -

It all depends on your expectations. Like the wise man once said: "If you strive to be the best in the MAC, you ain't that far away from being the worst in the MAC." We couldn't beat the #4 Horizon League team on our home floor. We slogged our way through a 17-point loss to the #4 CAA team. We couldn't come within single digits of K.e.n.t. State this year. Yeah, we were close to beating OU. Just as close as we were to losing to WMU. My expectations are to be a notch below Butler. To be as good as Butler once every 5-or-so years. We aren't close right now.

If you are a Zips fan, you are ecstatic if the field is expanded to 96 teams. That's 31 additional opportunities to get a bid. There is no other argument. Dambrot probably won't like it, because he'll need to change his line to: "The MAC is only a 2-bid league," but aside from that, nothing bad can become of a 96 team field if you are a Zips fan (they aren't going to take away our existing bid). There is only something to gain.

He can take as much time as he wants. If he decides to come to UA, great. If not, oh well...it didn't cost us a thing. His chances of going to UA are 50/50. His chances of attending Ohio State via a prep school are 50/50. His chances of attending any other school are 0/0. I'll take a 50/50 chance to land a 2-time Ohio Mr. Football over 0/0 any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. People need to take a chill pill and see how this plays-out. Talents like Howard don't drop on UA's lap without a little drama or risk. I met Ianello at the Cadillac Ranch last weekend. The guy is all business. If there is any way to get Howard on campus, Ianello will find it.

Maybe we should start with Wisconsin Green Bay, and work our way up from there? "We want to be The Wisconsin Green Bay of the Eastern Midwest!" Kinda catchy?

Top 10 Reasons We Lost to Wisconsin Green Bay
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
God Bless you if being better than 4-28 Toledo is your bar. I really wish I could have that mindset. Life would be so much less stressful. The good news for you - I think we will be better than Toledo next season too. Party on, Dude. -
Top 10 Reasons We Lost to Wisconsin Green Bay
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
It's funny how people screamed for athleticism after we lost to K.e.n.t. I said we need guys that can flat-out ball. Now we lose to a very earth-bound, slow, mediocre mid-major at home, and it is proven again - we need guys that can ball. We have a bunch of role players. We have no bad-ass MFer's that can flat-out ball. We can't even defend anymore. If Euton, Egner or Green can shoot, I'd give them 30 minutes/game next year, right off the bat. If they can hold an opposing guard under 30 points, I'd give them 40 minutes per game. -
#10 - Humpy aggravated his ankle sprain jumping on the inflatables during a 1st half time out. #9 - Letting guys go off for 35+ seemed like a sound strategy at The Q? #8 - For the first time all season, we were soft around the rim and couldn't finish?! #7 - Steve McNees heard Joe Dunn call him "One of the best point guards in the midwest" and got a head bigger than the one the Rowdies hold up. #6 - It was the refs. Ohhhh the refs...they did it to us again. #5 - Losing at home is a lot easier tradition to uphold than winning at home. #4 - KD was jealous of the flack the coaching staff got on the football board and wanted some for himself. #3 - No CBI gear in the team shop. #2 - Brett McKnight was saving himself for a Conyers-esque breakout in his senior season. and the #1 reason we lost to Wisconsin Green Bay is... #1 - Wisconsin Green Bay was simply too athletic for us. Thanks, folks. Drive home safely.

Other than CSU and Butler, no Horizon team interests me as an opponent. Joe Akron agrees.
