  1. I hate this question because it is very divisive. It pits "Zips Football Guy" vs. "Zips Basketball Guy" vs. "Zips Soccer Guy"You can't win at UA if you're a fan of all three.
  2. Eerily similar to "Fear the Roo!?" RIP Irwin.
  3. Recruiting updates from me will be sparse. There's a whole new group of coaches...and I have no way to meet them until signing day. Or maybe the summer golf outing.Sucks. This used to be my favorite time of year.
  4. Save the drama for your mamma. What was the Zips record after 17 games last season, with the great Nate Linhart bravely leading the way? Desire and leadership coarsing through his veins...the stuff legends were made of....(see, I can be dramatic too)...I'll tell you - it was 9-8. Focus on the facts - The Zips crapped down their leg plenty of times last season...just like this season. The epic scoring droughts are not something that just recently appeared. It is becoming an annual event, like Groundhog's Day.And before Mr. Super Nate Linhart Fan gets his panties in a bunch - Linhart was a solid player. I know that. My point is exactly as stated above. It is laughable to blame any big 2009-10 loss on the absence of Nate Linhart. Unless, of course, you want to give credit for every 2009-10 win to the fact that he's gone, and his absence has allowed this group of players to blossom. If Brett McKnight goes 16 points...2 points...18 points...4 points...we're going to go win...lose...win...lose. Nate Linhart has as much to do with it as Jami Bosley or Dru Joyce.
  5. On the radar...but far from a commitment
  6. Looking at the errors pointed out in the comments beneath the column, it is obvious the guy either doesn't know what he's talking about, or simply whipped up something to meet a deadline. He may end up being correct...but it isn't due to his research and attention-to-detail...it would just be dumb luck. I will give Ianello the benefit of the doubt. He deserves it.
  7. I'll keep repeating what I have been saying for a couple of months....I'm hoping for another situation like we had when JD got hired, and brought a good QB with him. I still think that we'd have never won a MAC title without that move. With Nicely here, it is going to be tough to get a quality QB to to commit for this class. Patrick's not going anywhere for 3 years. And to be fair - I am not sold on D'Orazio being a DB. I think he will get a good look at QB. FYI - Walt Harris loved Potts as a QB. It is scary what could happen if Nicely gets injured. Maybe there is an "athletic" QB we can get...a la Jeff Sweitzer...who would be content biding his time at another position like WR or punt returner...until Patrick graduates.
  8. Not so fast my friend...http://akron.scout.com/a.z?s=333&p=8&a...amp;nid=4266308#165 DE in the country...2 stars. Nothing to brag about, but nice size and like someone said earlier= if he is playing basketball (and his biography on the page says, "standout basketball performer") he is probably a darn good athlete.Apparently when you get stars you get an inch taller and lose 10 pounds.Nice! Rivals and Scout OFTEN have differences there..who the hell knows why.You look at three sneetches...they all look the same. But some have stars, and some don't? It's an age-old question...
  9. Why Bryant chose San Jose State Over UA
  10. Also plays football
  11. Since we're on the topic of motivational posters -
  12. K.e.n.t. Message Board
  13. You know the women's team has made progress when it can officially be said that they "crapped down their leg."
  14. I've never heard Dambrot so giddy after a game.Great beatdown, Zips.
  15. No rebroadcast as in football season. If you subscribe to ZipsZone i think it is available. I taped show and will post highlights tomorrow after listening. No highlights to speak of.... Bill Morgan verbalized for most of 60 minutes as usal, with 35 minutes going to lady zips and 25 going to Coach Dambrot- who used 15 minutes for a rather lame zips trivia quiz. Bill Morgan tries..... but Tom W- please find a way to make a weekly zip coaches show with Steve French happen!!! Every other teams coaches show features their broadcaster...........and Frenchie is the best!!One word - Unlistenable.
  16. I never thought I'd see a divisional 13-point loss described as "by only 13."Maybe if we lost to Kansas by 13...but Buffalo? Come on.
  17. Have you ever been to a large sporting event? It doesn't seem like it.Here's a radical, never-before-tried idea to help fund the T-shirts - Get a sponsor. I know...I know...crazy talk. But just humor me on that one. Here's another one - Sell shitty-quality white T-shirts at the entrance for $2.00 each. Shirts that say something clever...like "Beat K.e.n.t." Think that $2 could make a dent in the price of a crappy T-shirt? I see guys selling crappy T's outside of concerts for $5.00 all the time. They must be making money on it?Hey...how about beginning to sell them a few games prior to the K.e.n.t. game? How insane is that?I saw Dambrot's salary in the paper a few days ago. I also saw where Proenza justified it by quantifying the millions of dollars the University received in exposure during March madness. Obviously the money is available for such a simple promotion. And if the University is really committed to looking good on ESPN...they're collectively insane for banking on Joe Akron to bring his wife-beater to the game. But I can't expect to explain that to a group of people who think selling Zips basketball jerseys in the JAR team shop is a bad thing.
  18. Don't they usually hand out free shirts at the game for this type of promo? If not, I don't see Joe Akron showing up in a white T. It won't work.
  19. Because they feel sorry for us?Because they have a really tough time filling up their OOC schedules with quality opponents?Because it would allow them to prove, on the court, that they are among the top 4 programs in Ohio instead of leaving it up to debate. That's the best sarcasm I've got.
  20. These positions will be fine. What we will need are WRs that can get open and catch the ball down field. Does anyone know who that will be?I'd like to see the TE in the offense more. For example, they need to block well if the Zips can get the ball down by the endzone.the same concern about rb was posed before last year..the same response was given by a number of folks...it wasn't fine last year...until we see who these guys put on the field we won't know if it will be fine..The lack of ability had nothing to do with the players last year and everything to do with a coach who couldn't get everyone moving in the right direction. If the new coaching staff can do any on field coaching at all, the talent is there at RB.Again, nobody has answered the question. Who are the big play WRs going to be next year? We have a QB with a cannon for an arm and we need to find a way to use it to throw the ball down field and not hand off the majority of the time.MAC schools are horrible at playing from behind. The Zips need to focus on big plays early in games that get leads and then if they want to try to run out the clock in the fourth quarter with seven or less minutes to go, I have no problem with that.Who are the big play WRs going to be?Jeremy LaFrance will be the #1 WR. He's a real player. Merriwether and Nadir Brown...one of the two should emerge as a solid #2. Probably Merriwether. Schrock has a chance to come in and compete immediately. I think Randy Greenwood is a logical choice to fill Jeremy Bruce's shoes. If we could somehow pull in a solid JUCO WR, it would be nice. JD did well in California with the JUCO WR's...but I'm guessing those contacts are all lost.Ianello turned Golden Tate from a decent RB to an amazing WR. Maybe one of our RB's will be the answer?
  21. Ohio State opens against Marshall on the 2nd, so you'd like to think the Zips/Syracuse tilt on the 4th would sell out. It better.
  22. CSU is down THIS YEAR, but Waters track record points towards that being a temporary thing. Bullsh!t. Find a way to make it happen. This isn't finding peace between the Palestinians and the Jews. This is scheduling a freaking basketball game. UA needs to make this happen. If it involves biting their tongue and starting the negotiations fresh, then so be it. Hiding behind the "Until Gary Waters honors the contract..." excuse has run it's course for me. I want CSU on our schedule every year. Home/Home. Do it Tom.Tom - If you want me to do it, I'll make the phone calls. The offer is extended.
  23. Zips looking to take advantage of CMU instability
