  1. Ouch. I think that's all that can be said.HANDS OFF OUR "DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI!"
  2. Viva "The Little Hair Ball!"
  3. That guy is sort of a douche?
  4. Good. More people to yell "P-S!"
  5. Save the money and put it towards a new coaching staff.
  6. Thanks for checking in, Coach Keeler. Hope the Facebook thing works out for you. If not, there's always Twitter.
  7. Here's a link to The A & M Basketball Board. No real mention of the Zips yet.
  8. Here's a link to The Tulsa Message Board in case anyone is interested.
  9. Another deterrent to Stoops coming to coach at UA is the fact that he's a Youngstown Cardinal Mooney alum. Seeing how UA treated Reno Ferri, also a Cardinal Mooney alum, I have to believe getting Stoops will be an impossible sell.Wonder how the investigation into our recruiting violations is going, anyhow? How will we get ANY coach to interview with such major sanctions looming?
  10. A final note on the Stanford match --The post-goal #1 celebration act was AWESOME.For those who didn't see it...After Bunbury scored, the entire team ran to a corner. Bunbury faced the corner flag, about 30 feet away, and the remainder of the team lined up between Teal and the flag as if they were a golf gallery.Bunbury acted as if he hit a putt. The Zips gallery followed the imaginary ball to the "hole," where Ampi was tending the "pin." When the imaginary ball dropped in the cup, Bunbury executed a perfect Tiger Woods (Stanford alum) fist-pump.The whole act was perfectly executed. Better than any Cavs pre-game ritual!
  11. I wish you the best, Hunter. I appreciate your work at UA.
  12. I accept the offer. TW - Please PM me at your convenience with the details.
  13. When it comes to selecting a head coach, I think the fan input should be minimal. The AD needs to make the call. Where a fan's input would help TW is by providing an objective look at the team's history. AD's come and go. Coaches come and go. But fans are here for decades. And most fans are objective...not University "shills/lifers." If you want to know about Paul Winters' offense, I can tell you. Other fans can too. Those in the existing UA Athletic's Dept? They have very little clue who Winters is.When it comes to the "fan experience" (tailgating, amenities, etc) the fan input should ABSOLUTELY be considered. Too many admisistrators with fabulous advanced college degrees have absolutely no clue what it takes to make Joe Akron excited about UA sports. They think they do...but they don't.It is a bit scary that TW is a first time AD. Looking at Mike Thomas...as great an AD as he is...he took a flier on a relatively unknown position coach with his first hire, and the results were marginal at best. For football hire #2 he went the route of a finding guy with successful head coaching experience (Kelly). That was a home run. Thomas cut his teeth with hires at UA, and learned from it. I hope TW can skip the teeth-cutting. Taking a gamble on a guy short on experience, but with killer interview skills, could be devastating. We need a winner.
  14. I'm with you on this one ZB. Worth an interview. Defensive guy. Name carries some sort of weight. Area guy. Thanks for the Steve French show updates. I am in the process of hooking up a major antenna in my attic over the holidays to get the show.I remember a quote from Frenchy's show a few years ago...it went something like: "MY BIG TOE has a better chance of being Ohio State's next coach than Jim Tressel!"Thus I view the Stoops "scoop" with some skepticism.
  15. "YouTube Tom" strikes again. If he acts on one fan email, I'll be sorely disappointed.Find me a winner, Tom. That is all. Thanks,CK
  16. I heard that half the team is leaving!!!!!!!! Including Nicely and #34!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ok...we get it. Now stop.
  17. I would hope not. But I said several months ago that the worst thing that could have happened regarding his play as a true Freshman was it opens the door for him to transfer to a 1-A program without losing a year's eligibility. He would sit 1-year as a "redshirt/transfer," then play three. He's a mortal lock as UA's starter for the next 3 years, however. If he transferred, there's no guarantee he starts elsewhere.Nick Sparks transferred to UA from West Virginia to be the Zips QB. Up pops Charlie Frye, and Nick gets moved to wide receiver. You never know...
  18. I heard that the folks on Zips Nation have little knowledge of football and only regurgitate spewed rhetoric from ESPN analysts and most of them have an Ohio State T-Shirt on as they light up Zips Nation!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO ZIPS!!! I know a little bit about the game therefore I shall say nothing and never wear a BuckEye shirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Well...I like the "BuckEye shirt" comment...
  19. I think we'll find out on Friday. If we play Texas A&M tight, I think we've turned the corner. If we lose by 20, with KD substituting like a madman and Zeke sitting out an entire half...the Niagara game will have meant squat.I hope we try to win on Friday night. Play it like an NCAA tourney game.
  20. I would think the number of recruits we would have lost due to the 3-9 record...with JD in the final year of his contract, would be equal to or less than the recruits lost because JD was terminated. We have the best training facilities and stadium in the MAC. We now have a beautiful, "traditional" campus. The academic support for student-athletes has been upgraded. We have the #1 men's soccer team and a NCAA-qualifying men's basketball team on campus. The UA campus is a fun place to be!UA could have sat tight and kept JD. On paper, they would have saved a ton of cash. The new HC's salary will probably double JD's $250k, and we'll need to pay JD $250k on top of it. In addition to some of the assistants under contract through 2010. Plus pay the new assistants more cash than JD's crew. Plus JD is rumored to be very tight with a major donor to the football program...a donor the University will almost certainly lose now that JD is gone. But -- UA showed it is committed to having a successful football program. It is ignoring the short term loss in view of the long term benefits. If I am an incoming recruit, I probably open my door a crack to see what else may be outside. But I keep UA on the front-burner. If we choose a solid coach, I'd think playing football at UA will look even more appealing to a committed 2010 recruit than it looked in early November 2009 with JD still at the helm. As far as existing players leaving...why would they? Their present head coach just completed his 4th consecutive losing season, and the University committed to getting them a better one. And at a tremendous cost to the University in this day-and-age. If you're a 2nd or 3rd string guy, this is a chance to get a fresh start. Why go somewhere else? If you do go somewhere else, what's the guarantee that the next stop is any better? I just hope we get a new coach soon. And by the decisive way UA acted on JD's dismissal, I have to believe that will be the case.
  21. I don't see anyone on that list besides Winters that strikes me as a coach who would be successful next season. They all seem like the people who would try to blow up the program and start from scratch trying to bring in "their system" with "their players".Are you again starting to repeat stuff overheard from stadium usher interns?
  22. somebody on another site suggested Glen Mason...might be a good guess...mr. wistrcill comes from minnesota...he obviously made the decision to dimiss the previous regime weeks ago,he stated he doesn't want a 'rebuilding' process, enough talent is there now...it at least appears he already had some people in mind he thought he could get fairly quickly so that recruiting doesn't take too much of a hit...Wasn't Wistrcill also part of the regime that fired Mason? Why would he bring him back?
  23. In the post game yesterday the first two games of 2010 were announced. Home - SyracuseHome - Gardner Webb
  24. Thanks, Hip Zip...you saved me some typing. Spot-on analysis of last night's game, and where things are heading this season if we do not improve. This team remains "assassin-free." Our offense strikes fear into no one. We go soft to the hole, and we miss 40% of our free throws. We got out-rebounded by about FIFTEEN last night. With seconds remaining in a 1-point game, our point guard is practically begging the refs to call a technical on him.We learned no lessons from the Austin Peay loss. We folded in similar fashion last night. We just caught a break and won this time. That said - UAPB is a solid team. In the Dambrot-free post game analysis, Frenchie stated - "Niagara will be a lot tougher team than UAPB." I doubt it. USPB is a solid team. Good shooters. Great rebounders. And, they hit 80% of their free throws. Conyers had one of those games he seems to pull out 3 or maybe 4 times per season. He was both aggressive and poised at the same time. If he can play like that every night, I'd play him 20+ mpg at the expense of the McKnight's PT.I remember when we NEVER lost at the JAR. While the home court numbers we put up in the Joyce/Middleton/Dials era may never be approached again, I'm disappointed at how swagger-free the present day players are when it comes to putting a team away @ the JAR. Instead of attacking and picking apart the opponent, we're rubbing a rabbit's foot and crossing our fingers.
  25. Hipsher Hall? Will they have a constant video replaying the Thunder Dan- Ryan Andrick sideline fight?I look forward to sipping on a Coors Light while watching the Zips from Hipsher Hall's "Tarver Terrace." I can't wait until I see the artist's renderings. I hope they use Sims people. Of course, they should all look exactly like Andre Sims.
