What's the most important issue that needs to be fixed?
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
I don't disagree with anything you said, I just want to add to it. We need good players making big plays WHEN THE GAME IS ON THE LINE. We have good players that make good plays. I've been saying it for years, we need a winning attitude. It is now up to the PLAYERS to win some games.Tight game with Cincinnati...game on the line...defense plays well...4th quarter INT.Tight game with BG...game on the line...defense plays well...4th quarter INT.The score is 6-6 @ Temple in the 4th quarter...defense plays great...multiple INTs in the 4th and we lose 23-6.Tight game against Buffalo...defense was adequate (43 points in a quadruple OT)...fumble.Did the defense play great all season? No. OU is a great example of some atrocious D.Did the offense lose every game for us? No...they made the plays that beat K.e.n.t. late. But -- If you want to pin the crappy 2008 solely on the defense, you are mistaken. The offense had numerous opportunities to win games...and more often than not...get ready BirdZip...they "crapped down their leg."If we continue to fumble and toss around INT's in the 4th quarter this season it won't matter if Ryan Bain gets 20 sacks. We'll still lose. -
I believe they're placing the fiberglass covers on the seats and removing the bathroom stall doors this week! Can painting the urinals be far behind?!

"Pick Your Seats Day" - May 2009
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
You're picking late because you're an Ohio State fan. UA pushed back the seat selection date of all OSU fans. Buckzip's selection is set for July 19th, 2012 from what I understand. And his parking pass is for the Rubber Bowl. -
Future non-conference schedules?
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
That sentence sent a chill down my spine. Seriously. Lol... don't do that, man! It's true though. Maybe not quite to the level of EMU basketball, but you can't expect the community to come out year after year and fill up the Info to watch 3-9, 4-8, 5-7 teams. People support winners. The newness of the stadium will add a certain amount of fans this year, but you have to have a good product on the field to keep them coming back. If the product on the field sucks, in a couple of years we will be right back to the general apathy that Akron historically has had for Zips football.Akron has the best training facility in the MAC...it is not even close. Akron will have the best stadium in the MAC. Hands down.If any coaching staff has a losing record in the freaking MAC...in the MAC EAST...their tenure will be short-lived. You don't invest the money UA has towards football if you don't intend to dominate year-in-year-out. Any season with less than 7 wins should be considered a HUGE disappointment.3-9...4-8...those records are a thing of the past. -

"Pick Your Seats Day" - May 2009
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
No. They spread it out over a couple days. The earlier you donate and longer you've been a season ticket holder, the earlier your selection.6-10-09? Lee Adams must be a cheapskate? -

I get to pick my seat @ 7:40pm. It was great that the University provided a parking pass along with the announcement. Unfortunately the pass is only valid from 9am - 5pm.Will it ever end... -

That picture was apparently edited at some point...I'm guessing in the late 1920's? I peeled back a few layers and found this - -

At the Indians game last night (greatest comeback since Akron vs. Marshall) I sat next to a position coach from K.e.n.t. He was a pretty nice guy and I picked his brain for his thoughts on the MAC. He offered the following --"Look out for Toledo. They are spending a lot of money to get their football program back on track. They have a great stadium, and once their new coach figures out what it takes to win in the MAC, they'll be the team to beat."I asked him about K.e.n.t.'s QB situation, and he just rolled his eyes. It looks as bad to him as it does to me. He also commented that their kicker is terrible. On BG - "They had to get rid of their coach. He wasn't graduating anyone, and that won't fly at BG."On Miami: "They were at the top of the MAC, and they quit spending money. That's why they've fallen on hard times. They don't want to spend what it takes to win anymore. And now that Cincinnati is in the Big East, they're losing all the better local recruits to the Bearcats."On Akron: "Beautiful new stadium. It will be the nicest in the MAC. Toledo is second. JD needs to win this season, or he's out. Same here at K.e.n.t. If we don't win this year, we're all out of a job."

Anyone else recall receiving correspondence from UA stating season ticket holders would be able to choose their football seats in May 2009?

Pierre Carr ineligible to play as a freshman
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Seems like the odds are stacked against him. Going to school...one month old daughter...playing two sports...that is a heavy load for a valedictorian, let alone non-qualifier.I hope it works out for him. He sounds like he'll be an exciting player if he can pull it off. -
Several years ago, Jabari was Canada's QB in this event.Tough call for Patrick. I guess I'd lean towards playing for the USA team. Then again, if the kid is really good, 3rd string QB for the Zips in 2009 might actually see some PT. Neither our #1 or #2 guys are taking the world by storm.

Future non-conference schedules?
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
That is the present situation, but I don't believe it has to be our future. What was it...5 years ago that the MAC had two Top 25 teams? The Zips have the best facilities in the MAC. And better than most in C-USA. The Zips program should now be at the level of the early 2000's Marshall...Miami...BG...Toledo. There absolutely no excuse to be otherwise. If we reach our potential, we'll be winning the MCB, GMAC or whatever bowl we end up garnering. -
Word on the street is Ryan Bain has been given doctor's clearance to practice. He's feeling good!Back troubles are always dicey, but everything points towards him being ready for summer camp. His foot problems also appear to be a thing of the past.
