  1. Understood. But we also weren't in the process of recruiting the #11 player in the country while we were going after Nate Linhart. I'm not saying this kid is a bad pickup, just doesn't generate the kind of excitement that someone like Payne would. Those are just the facts. After Zeke's signing, ANY new recruit's signing will lack "sizzle" for a while. He seems like a solid kid who's made big strides with each successive season. 6' 7" today means 6' 9" is easily possible by the time he sees the JAR court in 2010-11. I also like the schools that competed to recruit him. Obviously he's a great student and a hard worker.
  2. Additionally - Once a kid verbals to a school it deters other school's recruiters. If Toledo (as an example) was hot after this kid, you know they're going to cool their jets a bit and focus elsewhere now that he's verbaled to UA. Might they still call him? Sure. But he's dropped in priority big-time.It is a very positive sign that kids are verbaling this early to UA. It is unprecedented. In the past we were lucky to have a single verbal by July. Going a step further - I know the coaches upped the level of recruit they were pursuing in response to last season's successful effort + the attractiveness of the new stadium. To pursue a better-caliber athlete, and get them to commit months prior to past history, is an excellent barometer to how this upcoming class is going to stack up.
  3. I'm guessing if he wanted to play at UA he'd need to redshirt in '09-10, and agree to walk-on in 10-11.
  4. I shared a breakfast table with her at the hotel in Portland. Very nice lady. What a shame.
  5. Getting to the NCAA's more frequently than every 23 years will help attendance. If the team can get off to a decent start in 2009, the big crowds will be there. Joe Akron will be excited. KD will need to begin complaining about something else...like concessions.
  6. From the recently held Roundball Classic -* I did not see the AA - A game, but Farrell's Marsell Holden must have been something to watch. He scored 32. He became Farrell's all-time leading scorer this year.
  7. Until his mom posts on ZipsNation, I'm with you.
  8. Crowd of 3k to see the Zips vs. the Crew today? Teal Bunbury stole the show for the Zips IMO. Looking for my #12 jersey on GoZips.com soon! #11 and #6 look to be hot items too. A 1-0 loss, but a really exciting exhibition. The Crew played to win, IMO. Just ask the Zips #6, who got crushed on a mid-field tackle about 20 minutes into the 1st half. I'm no soccer afficionado, but I can't help but be excited about this 2009 squad. It is hard to believe they've lost the #1 player in the country, and may actually be a better team this upcoming season?Anyone else see what I saw?
  9. 7 - 14 for 29 yards? K.e.n.t. spring game notes.

  12. Word on the street is he's a "Julian Edelmann" type player. Very dangerous with his arms and feet. Overall, recruiting is going great. The stadium is wowing the HS kids. Hence two verbals in APRIL!
  13. Very nice. Apologies if it was posted elsewhere.
  14. ...and I'm stuck here at work, missing half of Kris Kasparek's career receptions!?
  15. Will the entire Zips squad be playing, or will we be missing key players, like in the Indiana scrimmage?
  16. Greg Paulus will win two Heisman trophies before his career at Syracuse is over.
  17. The way they played last season...it's probably for the best.

Va Tech treated us great when we were there for football several years ago.Oct. 20: Tuesday - at MichiganRoad Trip Comment: Not a bad drive for a mid-week match. Play futbol @ Buffalo on Friday, then head to Syracuse for football on Saturday! THAT, my friends, is the dream college road trip weekend!
  19. It won't. I will keep it clear of OSU stuff and on-topic. I promise.
  20. I really feel bad for OSU Fan. Other than ZipsNation, there's really no other outlet for them to talk Buckeye sports. Maybe one day there will be such a web site? OSU Fan can only hope...
  21. More people get to see losses to Appalachian State and Toledo first-hand. Great to hear.
