  1. OK, if anyone's following the soccer portion of this thread and is interested in the answer to my trivia teaser. Rock Steady is the nickname of FSC color commentator Marc Rogandino. Aren't you glad to know that?
  2. Can't get much more contradictory than that...Hey mods,How the heck did this jump into the soccer board??
  3. A very interesting commment from Zarek Valentin about Blair Gavin. Saying he couldn't believe how much Blair had improved since they played together as youth players. We have Perry Kitchen coming in in another year. Can anyone say "Eriq Zavaleta"? Only thing I wonder is how many fullbacks can one team use? The athleticism of some of our guys makes me wonder if there are position switches coming.
  4. Amobi Okugo decided on UCLA last year. Altamirano, perhaps surprisingly because he's an elite player, went to Rock Steady San Diego State (a reference to a FSC announcer who was an Aztec. Can you name him? ). It would be nice if Caleb had a serious chance to recruit the best players on the West Coast, but there are enough players East of the Mississippi to establish a dynasty. Whoops! I shouldn't be using such bold language. I apologize! Here's an article about their play for the U-18 USMNT, along with Kofi, Chad and Zarek at the Milk Cup in Britain in July. That makes half of the team's defenders ZIPS! http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/players-to-...-needed-reforms
  5. Per the Indiana Rivals board, IU sent back their ticket allotment to Akron -- after selling only 450 tickets! Hopefully they are buying them locally, because that might be fewer visiting fans than Morgan State had! How pathetic is the fan following of this opponent that says it's "of the quality of the Big Conference That Can't Count"?
  6. This just in: IT'S A SELLOUT!!!!! First in 56 years (?) of Zips Futbol. Can anyone guess the attendance figure? 3000...4000...5000...More?
  7. What? No one's going to comment about poor Coach Martin's "inflammatory comments"? Here's to the NCAA rep!
  8. That high school is going to stick out in the program every time he visits the MAC Center, isn't it. Best of luck.
  9. My favorite quote in the article. This Lynch guy is on to the MAC.I wouldn't be surprised if Lynch actually said "parity". Since he's coached in the MAC before, he's well aware of that aspect of the league. It's pretty funny, nonetheless Isn't the MAC a parity of itself?
  10. Too late! Doesn't anybody want to be his latex man?
  11. This thread should be patented as a sure-fire sleep aid!
  12. Here's the weekly NSCAA D-1 Top-25 Poll: http://www.nscaa.com/seniorRes.php?it=1070
  13. Sounds like everyone's pleased, except for all the crap that went wrong! I guess the message is simple: "Just Win" and it's hunky dory.BTW -- is ZN the only BB that doesn't have an Art Vandelay? (If so, let's keep it that way. How 'bout an Art Nuveau, aka Herschel Bernardi?)
  14. Week 2? Who had a spread on Morgan State -- and what was it. Figures it was <41 I suppose.
  15. The 30,000 is max capacity, SRO, I believe.Officially, I believe the game is a sell out if all seats are sold, which they were.I think this is the third time I've asked this -- and I don't think I've gotten an answer yet: How many seats are there? And does it include the loges, club seats, etc. or just the regular tickets?
  16. I need more cowbell.Looks like the line increased a bit to 4.5 or 5.It's now up to 5-5.5! Holy cow, can you believe that! Whodathunkit!
  17. All I know is, when Michigan brought their pep band to Hawaii for a game in about 1987, they played Hawaii-Five-O better than the rock group that made it a Top-10 pop hit in the '60s. I like hearing music I immediately recognize. I'm down with Michael. I hope you guys get on ESPNU this Saturday.
  18. I just got a good view of the "North End Zone Facility". It's awfully large. What's in the second and third floors?
  19. Cause most everyone that was interested was watching in person? Just a thought. How many FBS-FCS games are televised in a given week? Few if any.
  20. People,The Z.I.P. is still waiting for the start of the Zips vs Rainbow Warriors series. Did Lee Owens not mention to JD Brookhart that he still owes a game in Aloha Stadium? Frankly -- any game West of the Missouri River is what I would now accept. Exceptions: Wyoming, Idaho, New Mex St., UTEP...well, just have JD ring me up, or text me.
  21. ^^ You can say that again! Too bad his season's over, but he may end up a star with the Cleveland Browns.
  22. Hopefully his sister will play the lead role in his recruiting! C'mon Kara, we're counting on you.
  23. I'm surprised no one has written in yet about last night's game on FSC (that's Fox Soccer Channel -- does everyone get that in Ohio?) at Louisville, which featured the 17th ranked Cardinals versus unranked UIC. UIC may have been unranked, but they really looked like the better team. UL scored first early in the second half against a packed-in defense, but as soon as the goal was allowed, UIC started to loosen up their offense, and had a lot of good runs and attacks on the Cards goal -- the Flames scoring within 10 minutes after the first goal. Both teams had some scoring opportunities the final third of the game, but UIC on the road came out looking like the better of these two as they fought to a 1-1 draw. Now, for the part that Akron fans are most interested in! From the start of the game the announcers (who frankly, though unknown, did a better job than the FSC announcers on MLS games!) talked about Louisville coach Ken Lolla being the ex-coach of the current #1 team in the nation: Akron. Then only 10 minutes or so into the game, they brought the UL Ass't AD into the booth to talk about how they managed to get Lolla away from such a top program to build their own. She told a story about how when they started to recruit Ken, "everyone told us we could never get him (!) -- but after just one day at Louisville, showing where we wanted to take the program, and what we were willing to commit, he quickly decided he wanted to be a part of what we were starting." Unmentioned was the fact that the wheels were already in motion at Akron to make an equally multiplying jump forward! Louisville had connections across the midwest to gain ground, but Akron had connections built over half a century across the entire nation -- with help from former US WC coach Bruce Arena (ties build at UVa by Mike and Mike) to put UA in a position to bring in the best and brightest of all collegiate soccer coaches. And if there's a better one than the coach we reeled home, no one is venturing a suggestion. The discussion of coaches -- and coaching connections -- gained ground from there, as the talk went to Indiana as the source of Akron's Porter, UIC's John Trask, and Louisville assistant coach Brian Maissoneuve. So, who steps up to the microphone? None other than "the Godfather of all college soccer coaches", Hoosier Daddy himself, Jerry Yeagley! Yeags goes into a stream of consciousness run of stories about his former assistants, and their families (apparently Yeagley's daughter also lives in Louisville so more incentive to be at this game). In the midst of this, the subject of Caleb Porter arises, and Godfather spews forth some strange words about how Caleb was his only three-time team captain -- "And I always called him Billy Big Boy." (What??) I guess they do have alcohol sales at Cardinal soccer games after all. With all the talk of how Akron jumped into the nation's #1 spot in college soccer, the only thing left for FSC was to announce when they would be broadcasting an Akron game. Wouldn't this Friday night be the perfect time? Too bad they didn't think this out in advance, as I think that game would bring in a good TV audience -- and increase the noise at the asylum that will be Lee Jackson Field -- especially behind the visitors' goal! Go Rowdies. Go Zips! Secure our House!
  24. somebody on this site said Lefevour was 'overrated' 330+ in the air, 3TDS in e.lansing!...send us your overrated, your tired, your poorI thought the same thing. The guy wins games. He has won at least one championship and takes his team to bowl games. The word good comes to mind, not overrated. However, is there a team in college football that blows more games than Michigan State. Off sides on a last second fieldgoal gives CMU another chance to win and they do.I have the MAC Gameplan cable scheme, so was able to watch CMU's win. Our Captain is right, in that LeFevour throws a lot of bad balls. He threw poorly on some passes that would have been long outs or TD's. However, it seemed, every time he threw a bad one yesterday, he came back and threw a great ball that kept CMU in the game, and he finally had time -- thanks to poor D -- to win the game. But, did anyone notice how long the Spartys had to throw? CMU had no pass rush at all -- so the secondary had to really be sticky to give the Chipps a shot. I do think they'll be double-figure faves vs Akron. Sorry for having to say that.
  25. I guess I could go on with questions all day -- but what was the pre-game like? Not just tailgating please, but the march of players, band, etc.? Anything unexpected happen? Parking-Traffic-Concessions-Band...??? Sorry I couldn't make it in time. My flight just didn't materialize. Maybe I'll get beamed up for next week on ESPNU. THAT is the opening game for out-of-towners!
