  1. Hey -- everytime I try the webcams (from the Stadium thread link), I get a No longer working message. Is there another site URL someone can post? Mahalos from da isles!
  2. And in return, Tennessee just announced they will play MTSU twice in Louisville. Got me!
  3. Boy, do I know what you mean, Rifle. I've bought, I think three times, the cheap plastic plate holders from the university. They lasted maybe a month or two before breaking to pieces. And I'm not THAT bad a driver, I swear!
  4. How many times do we have to tell you people? DeVoe Torrance did NOT sign with Owho-O State.
  5. I see Kyle Snyder of Barberton verb'd to OU last week. Any thoughts? Another Hiller (kid from our backyard makes good at another MAC school?) I hate to see that.
  6. To go along with this, many teams do a Pre-Game walk to the stadium from much farther away than 100ft.Like for example @ Fresno State, where the visiting team has to run a gauntlet of FSU students throwing things and spitting at them! At least no samurai swords (they keep their basketball team away).
  7. Hey Zippers,Here's a fairly unrelated subject (didn't feel like starting another new topic). I've been watching the US U-17 World Cup roster to see if any of our newcomers would be away in Nigeria midway through the upcoming season. Never found any. Now I did find one -- not with the U-17s but with the U-20 team which plays its World Cup in Egypt late next month. Zarek Valentin, the rookie from Lancaster PA, and (I think) FC Delco, is in the U-20 player pool. I'll have to dig further to see if he's been getting any playing time with the team this year. This is a good thing. He gets great experience internationally, while he prepares to fit into an incredibly tight competition for Akron's back line.http://www.ussoccer.com/common/stContent.j...2009U20MNT.html
  8. Steve says, I coulda had a hat trick (just like last fall!). Well, he DID have five shots -- four on goal. Keep it up kid, and good things will continue.http://www.examiner.com/x-413-Seattle-Socc...against-Houston
  9. Probably not, in and of itself... but Wake also lost six other starters (all of which were selected in the MLS draft) and didn't bring in as good of a recruiting haul as UA. Too bad we don't play them this year or we'd know for sure. It'll be more and more difficult for UA to get ACC teams on the sked for other than warm-ups or Spring games. Bonus points to anyone who can guess why. Cody is (I presume) the brother of USMNT (Gold Cup at east, though he will never be more than a deep sub) midfielder Davy Arnoux, who plays well for MLS KC Wizards. Here's another question we'll have to ask (not this year fortunately): Who will be the first of Caleb's kids to make the trip abroad? And who will follow?
  10. Take a picture of it (not lightning) for me Captain. By that time, HY will potentially either be the "head", or he may have fled town.
  11. Between those last two opinions, I'm going with Cap'n Kangaroo's two cents. It seems that an exaggerated sense of hopelessness can lead to throwing in the towel a bit too early. Even if our chances are slim, there are still some mid-major teams getting at-large bids, and making it into the top-25 every year. We may in fact, HAVE to be a top-25 team to get an at-large, so let's make that our goal, regardless of how we do between January and March. Frankly -- this is one of the reasons why I dislike conference basketball games in comparison to the non-conference (please don't call it the "pre-season"). They sometimes seem anti-climactic.
  12. I'd like to see someone (can't get up the nerve to do it myself) put this same poll up for the Morgan State game alone. I just can't see it drawing over 20k. MORGAN STATE? You've gotta be kidding me. And if you think 25,000 people will show up just for an "event", and not care about the opponent, then why don't we still have the Acme Zip Game? This shows just how wily Hunter is. Hunter knows.
  13. There's no way a new arena will be built for an ABA team. Your average high school gym is too big for an ABA team.Bingo!!OR, as it seems in this case...Indian bingo!
  14. It looks from these two sets of pix, that Brown Street, North of Exchange will be open as nothing more than a delivery driveway for the stadium and Lee Jackson track (Looks like no more than one lane!). Is that the plan?
  15. I'm sure I'm not the only Zip who just watched this friendly match on ESPN El Ducero. #11 had several touches on the ball, including a couple semi-breakaways for the Drew Carey crew at Qwest Field, before he was subbed at about 55 mins. ESPN's John Harkes -- the first American to make it onto a Premiership club roster (West Ham, I believe), had repeated compliments for Steve, talking up his pace and repeated runs down the left side for Sounders. Zak had one breakaway that made it inside the penalty area, but when he tried to touch the ball to the center of the box, it was a bit hard and, frankly a too-early touch and was broken up by the Italian sub for Chelsea, Beletti. Steve had a step on the defender, and might have gotten a good SOG, had he gone one more touch up the left lane of the box before shooting or centering to a teammate. Overall, I think Steve judged out as one of the best of Seattle's players on a day where the home squad had many opportunities, but always seemed to make one small mistake that prevented any great scoring opportunites on Petr Cech or the guy who was in goal for the second 45. Oh, Chelsea got a couple of easy chances of their own the first 45 with newcomer Sturridge and Michael Ballack putting balls away on Kasey Keller before mass subs the second half.Hopefully the next friendly, in 2.5 weeks will have a different outcome, though the same effort by the home team, as I will be in attendance on la noche de Barcelona.
  16. I bought my tik (will go to hopefully a kids charity) and will get the scarf. I just hope that I can get it before 8/3 when I leave to see Zaki play vs Barcelona. Has anyone else gotten any word when tix will be mailed? I was told the scarves will be sent with the tix -- rather than getting a coupon or something. Go FC Zippers 3[AKRON SOCCER]E
  17. Is that GRAHAM WATSON's photo? The Graham Watson I know is in France this week. He's the most famous cycling photog of all time.
  18. Ohhhhh! I thought we were getting a home game against the Thundering Terds.
  19. Read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summa_Field_a...oCision_StadiumThis is just one of the problems with Wikipedia.
  20. Gotta love that NCAA Big Blue Dot shirt. Kinda reminds you of the old TV show, The Prisoner.
  21. Ex-Zip Evan Bush is getting what i think is his first professional start tonight for Clevaland City Stars in the United Soccer League versus Austin Aztex. Game is being broadcast live by Fox Soccer Channel, so Akron has already got some good press, including their #6 pre-season ranking (the announcers did however NOT mention how much better they are than that). It's a shame that Evan's defense in Cleveland is not up to the caliber he was protected by the past four seasons at LeeJack. In fact, I think Clevelend City had a better squad a year ago before moving up to USL-1.
  22. I wish him luck. He probably got tired of being on the practice team. Can't blame him. What little I know he should be a starter, even a star. at Malone.
  23. Pulling this thread back up, cause I have a series of important questions that were not asked during the first go-round, and I hope someone might have some answers (for UA at least):How much total $$ is raised by the student fees? How much (%-wise) is taken to balance the athletic dept books?Where does the rest end up -- is it collecting interest, or does it go to the university general fund to pay for academic expenses? This came up, because news around my hometown is the U of Hawaii AD is almost $3 mil in the red, and they are about the last Div I school without a student athletic fee system, as students with faculty help have fought it tooth and nail.
  24. The name sounds familiar. I might know him from the Mt West. It's nice to see the continuing connection to UVa -- the comparison to such a prestigious institution looks good on Akron. Now hopefully he can exert an calming influence on his boss.
