  1. Play is in front of the Northwestern goal early in second half. Akron has four shots and about three equadros (corner kicks). Get one in the back of the net boys!
  2. Gametracker working at least. Under 4 minutes in first half remaining. Still 0-0. NWU has about 5 shots to 2 or 3 for Zips. But I feel something good coming on. Maybe frostbite off Lake Michigan.
  3. There is no link I can find to a live video or even a crummy gamecast for the Akron home game @ Northwestern! The CBS College Sports link from Northwestern has links for other games, but the only D-1 game is YESTERDAY'S Indiana blowout of Meechigan. If anyone has ANYTHING please give the rest of us a hint. We gotta have our football fix.BTW -- Weather Channel an hour ago called for 3-6 inches of snow in Chicagoland over the next 2-3 hours. Yippee. It's a freakin' NCAA Wonderland.
  4. Of the seven North American professional soccer franchises that are noted to use field turf, only two are not fields shared with American football teams. The Beautiful Game was not meant to be played on an artificial surface.
  5. Balki my boy,Do you know for a fact that a UA official "told the NCAA" that the field would not be playable by Sunday? I would not put it past the glorifield athletic Gods to make the call by themselves. (With help from the Big Ten Commish)
  6. There's no link for Akron (home team) @ Northwestern. Hope it shows up by morning!p.s.: Your only problem is, Thanksgiving was three days ago. Go Home Team, Beat Northwestern! And their partners, the NCAA!
  7. Very nice confidence-builder from ESPN. However, few seem to realize that Northwestern is the Big-11's best 11 (hold on -- there are only about 7 men's soccer programs in the league!). I hope we can at least make it to penalty kicks. I have great confidence in our shooters, AND our keeper. We're still the home team, BTW.
  8. You will notice from my question -- I suspect -- that I have no experience in bio-medical engineering, but here goes. Is there any actual academic or experiential connection between BME and the "engineering" that is taught in university engineering departments? I thought this was connected completely to natural science, medicine and possibly genetics. Or are we talking about engineering of medical devices? Help me out. There must be others wondering this too. Thanks.
  9. Coach Faust is a great guy. I almost feel bad typing this. When I read this, I could hear the motivational talk..... "We beat the Swenson's Lions....and the Swenson's Lions beat the Strickland's Giants.....and the Strickland's Giants beat the JCC Seahawks......and the JCC Seahawks beat the Downtown YMCA Eagles....and the Downtown YMCA Eagles beat the Ido Cafe Chargers....and the Ido Cafe Chargers beat the West Point Market Packers.....That means we can beat the West Point Market Packers."Holy cow! I didn't know Ido Cafe was that good! Must be all those 80-something Firestone retirees who are so super tough. Tip o' the cap to my Dad for buying me my first Rolling Rock there.
  10. It seems that no one has picked up on the most laughable part of this "decision". They are still calling it a "HOME GAME" for Akron. There aren't enough emoticons on this board to describe my feelings. I just can't believe that Coach Caleb, our "flying-under-the-radar" AD Mac Whatsisname, or President Louie Pro are sitting back and allowing something like this to happen. I'm going to wait and expect reasonable people to come to their senses. Stuff them with turducken (or tofurkey like in my house) and have Zippy ply them with mince meat. I think the NCAA will come over to our side in no time.Or maybe GoZips is right and this is payback for Ohio stealing the '04 election.
  11. ah, that explains it. Allow me to take back my previous neutral site comment. Is there no University of Oakland in CA?No -- but there is an Oakland City University. In Indiana!
  12. I have to rate this as "most pathetic thread of 2008 on ZN". I don't know ANYONE in Zips land concerned about bowl eligibility anymore.BUT -- for the sake of my local U (and most recent alma mater) let me correct you: Hawaii has won six games, and must win one of their final two (meaning 2-10 Wazzou on Saturday) to get to their token Hawai'i Bowl spot. Quite a comedown after the Sugar Bowl on New Years, but MAC fans may be interested, as WMU may be a potential fill-in for the Pac-10 sixth-place team that isn't eligible to bowl.
  13. The real irony of this quote from the OSU site is the fact that is exactly the kind of language you'd see at our site after playing OSU in football like last year. We gave them a tough game. That is the kind of language that is used to give yourself some hope. Kind of cool to see it turned around our way. Here's what I loved in the box score: "Weather: Cold!"You don't see exclamation marks in box scores much.I know we have a sizeable pack of Zips futbol fans in the Columbus area, and that UA72 can round up many himself (!). How about packing the Bucknuts bus with Zips. lol! :DCongratulations to Sigi Schmidt's Crew for bringing the title back to Columbus, something the other pro teams in town have been unable to do -- meaning you Scarlet.
  14. Not to throw a wet towel on a significant win, but Michigan is the B-11's bottom dweller in most seasons. Back in the old days of Lisa Fitch and similar coaches, UA always played UM tight -- in fact, I thought sure Lisa beat them once. Niagara -- now that's the one team Akron has always seemed to have the measure of, even in those 1-3 win seasons. I wish the team well, despite my concerns about the coach's style of "leadership". Go Wahine Zips!
  15. Mixed feelings, as RSL is 'my team', but this result is proof that parity lives in MLS. Red Bulls were last team to earn a playoff spot and now are Western Conference Champs (YES -- Western Conference!). Now they get to head further West to Home Depot Center to face the Columbus Crew in MLS Cup 08 next Sunday on ABC. Columbus is what you call a 'prohibitive favorite', with their Supporters' Shield title for the best regular season record. But New York is showing that old cliche "anything can happen" isn't just an old cliche.Ubi, BTW has been playing fairly regularly of late, and started the game vs RSL, but Osorio had to pull him at the 20-minute mark, as his hamstring, injured in the win @ Houston Dynamo a week earlier wouldn't allow him to perform at top flight in marking Salt Lake's crafty opposite Kyle Beckerman. Rojas' defense played a big part in NY shutting down RSL and extending their team record to 10-games undefeated vs the Utah bunch. Not sure who to root for -- other than Ubi. Crew is Akron's local MLS team for good it appears, and several UA players are products of their youth academy. On the other hand, their from Cow-you-know-where. Well, maybe they're the one good team from that town.
  16. You bring up the most widely reported reason for soccer-hating. What I like to say to the person (usually reporter) who makes that statement is this -- especially if the person is a baseball fan: "I suppose then that the worst possible thing for you is if you went to a baseball game, and there was a, uh, no-hitter?"
  17. Creighton will likely be ranked #2 in the nation when the NSCAA poll comes out (tomorrow?). yes -- Akron got screwed, but Holy Crap, the Big11/East/ACCk chew) will never have to earn respect from hte selection committee. Which by the way, probably is dominated by members of those conferences. I didn't look at where teams like SMU, UCLA, UCSB, Cal-Berkeley are in the pecking order, but the only team to defeat the Zips this year, New Mexico was on the bubble, and missed out making the field, despite winning eight of their last ten games. I have to look again, but if we win the first two, where might we have to go to make the Cup/final-four? Is it @ Maryland? That might be a fine little grudge match. FEAR THE ROO!!! (I don't have to worry about Waddell stealing that motto again, since he already did it once.)
  18. I am STILL waiting for my royalties to come in from that damn phrase! Do you have my proper address, UA?Zip in Paradise
  19. Thanks for the news! Can HW or UB score on our back-line? We'll see. I see NW defeated PSU and IU beat OSU in Big-11 playoffs. Was that the semis?
  20. JD has recruited more d lineman lately. The time for the 3-3-5 should be over by next year.Someone check the date, cause I've been hearing that one at least three years now!
  21. I have to disagree -- rather strongly. First I see Utah losing, most likely to BYU in the Beehive Bowl. Boise likely goes to the (BCS) house again. But if I'm not mistaken, any non-BCS team that finishes in the top-12 ...or yada, yada, yada... is entitled to a BCS bowl spot. Someone who actually follows American football, please fill in all the yada yadas.
  22. oh come on, you have got to be kidding me... Someone seriously wrote that? I think their projection of 70k in attendance each week was off by a zero That was so funny, I busted a gut! Then I wrote to the editor, and he wrote back: "Hello Akron. Visit me next time you're in Zagreb."
  23. Thanks to everyone back in the Zip State for these offerings to we out-of-staters. Your descriptions are great and make me want to do my own Lambeau Leap. Catch me 72Roo! I suspect this is the best challenge the lads have had since their loooooong weekend in New Mexico some nearly two months ago, and to be up to it shows the team has learned and grown from that experience. I would like to be able to say it is now possible the Zips win streak will continue till the College Cup, and Bring on the Deacons, and stuff like that. But I know the guys will be taking it one game at a time. That's the way to do it. Go ZipsI would say if they even played football! So, why don't we have one of those for the Bucknuts???
  24. No one can legitimately say now that we're getting shafted.But...there's still time.
