  1. Can someone explain where Wyoming fits into this? Akron would be favored over the Cowboys @ Info (unlike the Buffs). And we might get a future matchup in Laramie outside the blizzard season. Then again, it might be in November!
  2. Link is gone. But we got the story on previous thread. Evan trained with Columbus Crew previously in summers, and has established relationship with Sigi Schmid. I really am becoming a Sounders fan. I might have to try and locate a spare ticket to a SFC game this year (they have over 20,000 season tix sold already, so hard to come by).
  3. Woo-Hoo! Way to go SuperFrosh. She's the Zeke Marshall of Air Rifle. Armed and Dangerous.
  4. Follow up: The Sounders first match in the Northwest was Friday night vs University of Portland at Merlo Field in Portland. Steve came on, along with virtually an entire new squad in the 61st minute of play. He did not score, but was taken down in the area by the UofP goalkeeper, drawing a penalty (second he's gained so far) which was converted in a 4-1 Seattle victory. Zakuani earned a 6.5 game rating (on ten point standard), tieing with Sanni Nyassi for highest grade out in the game. The team is scheduled to leave shortly for Argentina for training and games vs Argentine first division squads like Newell's Old Boys.
  5. It didn't take long for Steve to get things into high gear, scoring twice in the first 21 minutes of the first game in the history of the Seattle Sounders FC last weekend. He seems to be one of three real scoring threats for the club, along with Colombian import Freddy Montero and U. of Portland product (saw him score twice I think vs Akron in 2000) and ex-Houton Dynamo 6-5 F Nate Jacqua.http://www.venturacountystar.com/news/2009...ick-fusion-6-1/
  6. Would anyone care to explain what the heck this article was about???
  7. From what I hear, coach John Bluem from the Columbus State Sucknuts is spending his entire off-season trying to develop a plan to keep the ball away from the Rowdies end of the field. See you at Lee Jackson in '09 coach.
  8. That's a great website indeed! I found that my favorite ref to hate -- Tim Higgins leads the NCAA this season with 18 techs called. I wouldn't be surprised if he holds the all-time NCAA record. I once saw him call four (4) techs on the coach from San Jose State. (for the record, two and you're out of the game!)
  9. His dad went to quite a few different boards begging people to look at his son and saying his son was interested.Simple question: Does the son have Monster Hands? If not, well...
  10. Wasn't that when Joey Arietta was coach? Last I knew she was coaching the Akron Racers.BTW -- anyone goes to a Racers game this year, send a shout out to my favorite Akron pro sports figure, former Moanalua High School and University of Hawaii pitcher/1st baselady, Kate Robinson. You go Kate! And go Menehunes! Joey's great too.
  11. Somehow, I think that's more information than we needed.
  12. I have to think Swiech can see the writing on the wall. If he wants to play, it will have to be somewhere else. I bet he would help a Youngstown or Wright State type program -- definitely a Robert Morris (closer to home). He has always been a great kid, so let's help him find his way, wherever he plays. But in Akron it seems limited to practice time.
  13. Lee, Lee, Lee. Take another happy pill, OK? "all the JCs" is what - two or three? (Deonte Ball unsigned verbal) And one of those has MONSTER HANDS!
  14. You know what? Fox Sports is still using the 'A-in-Motion' as our logo on the team page. How many years...
  15. My sympathy to the Steiners. He coached since Year One at Glenoak. Does anyone remember when Glenwood and Oakwood split? That was a long time ago -- in the 70s I think.
  16. Lee Jackson Field? Is that the (football) pitch you had in mind?
  17. Since the MLS regular season starts the last week of March, you can surmise this game would be vs the Crew reserves --except for one thing. MLS has eliminated the MLS Reserve League competition, and reduced roster sizes from over 30, to something like 24 or 21(?). So I suppose this is how MLS will be getting PT for the subs this season. If it were a pre-season game, there would be a chance of seeeing Evan Bush in a Crew uni, as I expect them to try him out. But by April, who knows.
  18. For the record, the DoD has gone to Force Protection Conditions, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta. Trust me, I'm typing this while in (Exercise) Charlie, hoping I don't get caught!
  19. This is more than a trivia question. It displays the recruiting expertise of Caleb Porter:Which two Akron Zips have brothers playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy?Answer: Blair Gavin and new recruit Zarek Valentin, brothers of Julian Valentin (ex-Wake Forest), and Michael Gavin. I said previously I briefly spoke to Blair's bro at the Pan-Pacific Cup. Only I didn't know who he was at the time! So, Caleb has recruited players whose brothers were all-Americans at Indiana and Wake Forest. Not bad.
  20. First time I've read this. Put me down as one for Zipswin! If we don't have a chance against the Sucknuts, then why are we taking the field? My custom bumper sticker would read, "I'm rooting for the AKRON ZIPS and whoever's playing the Columbus State Suckeyes"
  21. WOW! I bet this would be really nice -- if it worked! But, it doesn't fit on the page (and doesn't even allow horizontal scroll); There are no links to anything except the few stories they allow; The top banners are doubled -- why?I'm sure I will find more problems. And I'm sure this will all be somewhat fixed. But probably not in time for the opening of Infocision Stadium. Put this on your resume, McAthletic Director.
  22. Top Drawer Soccer shows that 2010 college soccer recruiting is under way, and already Coach Porter has a verbal commitment from the captain of the US National Under-17 team, 5-11, 150 lb fullback Perry Kitchen of Indianapolis and the top-rated Chicago Magic FC. Perry has been a member of the US National U-15 and U-17 teams. I think the U-17s are currently in Spain (OK, correct me if I have the wrong country) in training. NOBODY in college soccer will have the back line that Akron puts on the field in the future. As for the Class of 2009? Holy Cow! At this time, no one with the possible exception of UCLA is even in Akron's field of view. The ACC schools so far have small classes showing. Akron has gotten commitments from four of the top twenty-five players on Top Drawer Soccer's Top-100 list, including #9 Scott Caldwell of Braintree, Mass. another US U-17 player, along with Chad Barson of Dayton and Ohio Premier who is ranked #10, and CVCA student and ex-#1 recruit Ben Speas, who fell on the list after his injury took away his senior season of HS soccer. Also, Eric Stevenson of Columbus is ranked #25. He of course also has US international playing experience, as does Zarek Valentin who has been playing for both the U-17 and U-20 USA teams. And to top it off, we have incoming GK David Meves, who is ranked #55 nationally.Coach Caleb Porter is winning the game of Can You Top This.
  23. They're now saying on Gozips.com that Will Fleming (and Joe Pachuca) did not enroll at UA until this current semester, therefore still has five years of eligibility. Can anyone say "Impact True Freshman"?
  24. I think Tonga has 3 to play 2So, you think he'll red shirt this year? I really look forward to Phil da Tonga Terror teaching da haka (or will it be da ha'a?) to the Zips. That should be worth the price of Admission to the Info. Don't stain the new field brown Golden flushes!
