  1. "Joint practice" means nothing more than a scrimmage versus another team. Since the article limits the sphere to the MAC, I suspect it means MAC teams scrimmaging each other. What is to be gained by that? I'm not sure...
  2. For Akron WBB this is the toughest trudge of the season, the struggle to finish and hopefully get a top-four seed (would that gain a first-round bye or something?). The currently third place Zips will be underdogs in the next three games @Bowling Green, @Ohio and vs Buffalo at home -- they finish with Miami at the JAR. For this team to finish in the top four it will require at least one win in the next three -- I think the most likely coming versus #2 U@Buffalo. However the regular season concludes, this has been a dramatic possible turning point for the program. The team should be chosen at least for the WNIT, which would mark the first return to the post-season in like six or seven seasons. Jordyn Dawson is still in contention for league player of the year, and coach Jackson for coach of the year. Hope the fans and especially the students will come out and cheer the team on in its two remaining home contests and at the Fieldhouse.
  3. Keep him away from coach Howard in the hand shake line! 😄
  4. It's the Clark and Wynne Show!
  5. Sure hope they don't bring back Jim Chones to replace Wyndon. He once got confused and talked about Akron's road record vs OH, when they were playing at the JAR! ðŸĪŠ
  6. The poor man's Saul Philips! 😁
  7. What are Regan's chances of being Freshman of the Year? I think there's a player in (what used to be) the West, who's a contender...Western Mich maybe? Still, she has to be on the all-freshman team.
  8. Four of the final five at home for the Zips. Biggest is on 3/2 vs #2 and frankly disappointing (and very beatable) Buffalo Bulls. That's also a matchup between Jordyn and Dyaisha Fair two of the three top candidates for MAC POY, who are both scoring in the 20s or 30s every game. Cece's getting the pub with her scoring record, but coach Bolden's team is another disappointing club -- with NO bench.
  9. I love the continued commitment to the Coaches Against Cancer campaign by Melissa and the team. I wish Groce would do something to remember the legacy of Danny Peters.
  10. Well...THAT's a first! ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļðŸĪĢ
  11. Wonder if she's passed Joe Jakubick yet...ðŸĪ”
  12. I'll take it. But only 78 today. ðŸĨķ
  13. Our friends from 12 miles are taking apart the hated Rockets. 36-20 at the half at Savage. Go Flushes! ðŸĪ—
  14. Sorry, but...who is "Seny"? Only person on roster close to that is Isaiah Brooks-Sena -- who's a GA coach. ðŸĪ”
  15. He was all Groce had in the post at the time. The Rodney Tetzloff of his day! Who was better of those two... 😒
  16. Thus Western Michigan won 80-73 in Athens. 2nd place Buffalo also lost, in OT to NIU. Akron sits alone in 3rd. Team to watch, the women of Brimfield with 5 straight wins and a favorable schedule. Zips vs Flushettes, next Saturday, 2 p.m. at the JAR.
  17. I don't see the Zips winning this one using the style they've shown too often of late. In other words, I don't think they can win ugly or by just "scraping by". That means they have to start fast and win the first half of basketball. If Akron takes the lead into the locker room, they could win going away -- otherwise they could be in trouble. And Mr Ali x 2 gotta bring it from the start tonight! If Ali squared and Mr Double Double double down early and take the game inside the paint, rather than this team depending mostly on 3-point accuracy then the squad's chances grow exponentially. Taking the ball to the hoop will open up space for Trimble, Dawson and Ali to take higher percentage jumpers around the shooting arch. And making those free throws that come as a consequence of driving to the hoop could be crucial. If it's close, it could be a free-throw shooting contest between two suspect FT shooting teams. Prediction? Zips take a four point lead to the lockers and slowly expand on and grow it to double figures before the Flushes make a furious late rally that draws even late. Both teams get T'd up but Robby S breaks new ground in benchside misdemeanor and must be held back by his assistants from tearing in half either the head referee or a member of the AK Rowdies. Toss a coin. Akron 71 Cant State 64.
  18. I looked and don't see any punters listed on the recruiting list, but I may have missed (or he plays 2 positions?). What's the name? Mahalo.
  19. Our #BallHawg carries Akron to its biggest win of the season with a stat line of 26, 10, 6 and 5 (steals). Led her team in all categories. What will we do next year??? 😄
  20. 7 it is. Unless someone can prove otherwise. ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ
  21. A little Cross-thread action Interaction: The Chair of the NCAA Men's BB Rules Committee used to be none other than Keith Dambrot. Wonder if he's still in that position? Mainly I hope men's play never moves to four quarters. The stoppage of play breaks up the action unnecessarily!
  22. Before this board existed I was subscribed to a MAC sports email list serve in the late 90s, early 2000s that had people from just about every school (including Marshall, but no Buffalo or UCF or NIU IIRC). It was the late Mr Go Zips who told me about and got me involved in the list -- we were the only Akron supporters. The largest contingent was Miami fans, and the folks in Oxford - which included the Millett Hall scoreboard operator - would often comment about the difficulty they had in getting students out for the games, and that most of the fans in the seats should have gotten the geriatric ticket rate. It was said that the men wore red sweaters and the women, blue hair!
  23. Two points: I didn't get to see today's game. However the team played it's best half-court defense since the Suckeyes game in the second half on Friday. If they're going to be a contender in Cleveland they'll have to continue that, and the bench will need to continue contributing. Second about Ryan Prather, this kid was so heavily recruited-- Rhode Is., Buffalo, Wichita offers -- that I'm afraid if Groce tells him "It doesn't look like you're going to be playing next year", he might say, "Catch me in the portal coach!" That's where CBB is today. Hope he's not that kind of kid, but who knows.
  24. Any question who the MAC 6th Man of the Year is? Lairy!
  25. I'm predicting Hester makes a very serious run to be a starter in the fall. Very serious run...
