PD Reports that Winters is staying at Wayne State
bobbyake replied to Kangaroo Craig's topic in Akron Zips Football
You and I most likely share opposite views towards capitalism. Can you tell me a time in history when it was different? Things are better now than ever because capitalism gives you the ability to become the next Kevin Plank. Where there's a problem, there's an opportunity. Can you tell me a time in history when it was easier for a poor person to become rich? Today, anyone can become a noble if they work hard at it and make the right decisions in life. CEO's make their pay because of the responsibilities they take on are very demanding and highly accountable. Finding great leadership is rare and when you find it, you have to keep it. Proenza is a perfect example of a great leader Akron cannot afford to lose. He's very hard to replace. It's high treason as a Zip faithful to question Proenza's pay -

In my mind, Proenza's annual outrageous "bonus" checks should be weighed against botched decisions like Tom Wistrcill and the resulting chaos. Luis's one personal poor decision cost UA millions of dollars. How is that worthy of a "bonus?" I mean, the guy is way overpaid to begin with. Compare what he makes to CEO's of a company UA's size. We're lucky to have him for what he makes. -
Thanks. I guess I was too tired to find the key to the *. After looking at it again, that site is a joke. Speas can't be drafted without a GA deal, I believe, and I doubt that he gets one...which means Crew or UNC. Did that site even get the draft order correct? Given the other issues you pointed out, I'm unsure of the trade they claim that New England made with Toronto FC back in April. Unfortunately, the MLS site doesn't seem to have the draft order unless I overlooked it. Ives made a mock draft somewhere, he should have the list there.

He's a great basketball coach, don't get me wrong, but I don't think he would do very well as a football coach. me neither. Why would he coach the football team as an Athletic Director?
-
Keith Dambrot for Athletic Director? I'm all for it.
-
Which makes no sense. Why would he not sign a homegrown contract if he wanted to leave early? He will most more and be more valuable to the Crew if he signs a homegrown contract. A difference between $10-15k a year. A $30k salary or a $45k salary with the possible bonus money.

if that's true, TW should have been fired a year ago.

The negativity is only coming from from the football board. I know there are a lot of people here that live and die for Akron football, but for those that love all Akron sports, there's been a lot of positive news in the past 12 hours. Best way to cool down your is to spend time on the other boards. -

It is sacrilege to call for Proenza's head. -

George Thomas should be fired and replaced by Beaven. -
Woo Hoo!!!! Imagine if he goes to Montreal? They'll have to be my new favorite team.

Should we start naming candidates to replace him?

Wouldn't it be better if us fans focused all this negative attention towards the one deserving of it, Tom Wistrcill. There's been so much fighting between Akron fans in the football boards. Here's where your negative energy should be focused: -

I believe Meves will start while Pina is being groomed for the year after. It is not easy for a goalkeeper to make it into the MLS. See Evan Bush for example. Porter seems to like Meves and probably wants him around to help prepare Pina for 2013. -

To Ben Speas defense, it might not have been much of a choice for him considering it was a mutual agreement. This whole Paul Winters thing is a big let down. I hope Akron destroys Youngstown State tonight. That would help make me forget about all of this. -
I paid $25 to park at an App. State game this year. Don't complain. sorry you got ripped off. I pay $0 for Akron Basketball and Soccer games Very happy about those prices. The entertainment value is incredible.

Before the Tressel rumors started, a lot of people were calling for his head. I've been wondering if the Tressel rumors were planted by the athletic department to divert the negative attention Tom Wistrcill was getting from the news that he fired Rob Ianello while in route to his mother's funeral. When the attention was shifted towards the Tressel rumors, all the negative attention Tom Wistrcill was getting died off. BTW, I'm normally not a conspiracy theorist. Hiring Rob Ianello has created a new low for Akron's football program that looks extremely challenging to recover from in the near future. For me: Strike one: when UA decided to charge $10 to park in a tailgating lot when I was used to paying $3 at the Rubber Bowl. The tailgating experiences I enjoyed at the Rubber Bowl are extremely difficult to replicate at Infocision regardless of the product on the field. Strike two: Hiring Rob Ianello. I was against that decision the second I found out. I honestly wanted to be proven wrong, but a horrible hire proved to be a horrible hire. Strike three: Not being able to hire Paul Winters. Regardless of whether you were for or against Akron hiring Paul Winters. There's no debating it that this area would have rallied behind him. I feel like Akron is doomed to be the old Eastern Michigan of the MAC for the next 4-5 years What do you think? Do you want Tom Wistrcill fired?

bummed by this. A local guy like Winters would have been perfect for building fan support for next year. -

Could the amount of top players in this particular class we're getting, be in effect to the previous national championship appearances, or the fact that Coach Porter is the U-23 coach for the Olympics? Or a little bit of both? 4 players out of the Top 11, I think it's safe to say Akron has the #1 recruiting class for 2012. If Porter does well in the Olympics, Akron's going to need to build this: it would only cost $16 Million -
The only thing you need to know about Fernando Pina is that he's the best goalkeeper in the country. Akron knows this and more, which is why they secured his verbal commitment to join the program next season. Fernando Pena The Houston, Texas, standout will bring quite the experience to the college level. He was the leading keeper for the U.S. U17 squad last year when he earned his stripes in international competition. We have Pina ranked No. 10 in our 2012 Top 100 class, and he makes the grade in just about any other criterion as well. He's rangy and tough to beat, and also brings a confidence that helps him command his team. Pina has extensive U.S. National Team experience and will join another star-studded group of players in the next phase of his career. Akron already has 2012 commitments from Matthew Foldesy, Alfred Koroma, Dillon Serna and Andrew Souders. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/players-to-...-keeper-commits Ranked #10 overall, #2 in Texas. #1 as a goalkeeper. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/players-to-...4/Fernando-Pina

that overall record is really good considering the program he came into was awful. He turned things around there. Let's hope he can replicate that success with the Zips. I believe it's Paul Winters job if he wants it. If not, we need to start calling for Tom Wistrcill's head.

Don't we root for the same team?

it sucks a lot that he's at UNC. The sooner he signs that homegrown contract, the better.
