I am pretty excited to start getting the first news about the new regimes recruiting efforts. Hopefully we start getting some updates about current commits and new recruits that are being discussed. I hope he has a nice list of on the fence Notre Dame recruits that were interested in playing for them, but just didnt quite get offers.

Brian Kelly wants his guys, not Rob's guys... Let Rob's guys continue with the blue and gold tradition, only with newer digs. That would probably be okay. As long as they've got true Rubber City grit.I think Robert Smith is talking more about the university overall than Ianello. Notre Dame gets whacked because of their high academic standards. It doesnt allow them to bring in some of the guys that the SEC schools allow into their universities. Robert Smith is telling the university if they really want to compete for national titles, loosen your admissions for these players or expect to keep getting what you are getting. I dont think it has anything to do with being snooty nosed.

I agree......the guy has contacts throughout the country with the best high school programs. He has an in to the programs that we could never dream of recruiting from. Having a relationship with these high school coaches (as you see with the Hoobler thing) is vital. I think some of you are so hung up on the lack of "head coaching" experience that you are blinding yourself from the other huge positives.

I am excited about the hire. I am talking with Notre Dame guys on Rivals and they think we got a HUGE steal. Many people in South Bend wanted him to be the new guy there. Lets give the guy a chance before we start the doom and gloom bs. The guy has worked for many quality programs and is obviously an amazing recruiter. Just because he hasnt been a head coach before doesnt mean he wont be a great one. Give it time and step away from the cliff.

I am sure they simply forget to check YOUR criteria list before they made the hire. It's a simple mistake.

I have to disagree with this. We do need a coach with strong recruiting ties to Ohio. Let me rephrase that.....he needs to have strong roots or has to develop strong roots in Ohio. Lets be honest, this isn't Florida or California. We dont have the girls, the weather or the name to consistently draw top talent from out of state. Plus, we are in a garbage conference. Even if we win on a consistent basis being in the MAC and relying on OOS recruits will make recruiting very cyclical. I am not saying ONLY recruit Ohio, but Ohio should always be our top priority.

Thoughts?Of the coordinators on the various lists, I like his resume. I believe he got his masters at UA and was a play caller for several years...Also, not coming from a major BCS program, but a BCS program is who I want, if you go the coordinator route.What is all the talk about the tosu coordinator? He has great defenses against the MAC, New Mexico State and YSU...His defense generally gets schredded vs. the Florida's, LSU's, and USC's....Why would you not want someone from a major BCS program? That is just a silly comment saying that lower level BCS coaches are better for our needs. We want someone that has been at the highest level. They generally know what it takes to get a program to that level and keep it there. As for the OSU D coordinator.....Fickell is not "the" D coordinator. As for being shredded.....do you even watch games? They shut down the entire Big Ten (something we cant do) and they shut down USC this year. I love how you pick 2 or 3 games out of a several year strecth and say that a D coordinator is no good. Hilarious. I will agree that his schemes against SEC schools do not work, but once again, THAT ISNT FICKELL.

Rivals no longer has Hoobler as an Akron verbal.

I just saw yesterday that Rivals bumped him down to a 2 star player. I find that odd considering his offer list, but oh well. I just hope that he stays committed.

If I had to guess I would say more like 18-20k. The place was 65-70% full. If that was 13k then the Info only holds 20k tops.
