Penn State Opener Official

I know you're being realistic, but would it kill you to have an ounce of optimism? It is January, after all. Or do you just really enjoy p*ssing on everyone's parade? Did you really expect anything different from a buckeye fan?You are right, he should be an idiot like you. Zips win 900-0. If you say otherwise someone like you will insult them. I love internet tough guys. -
Thanks for the exception. Charlie Cheeseburger has lots to do with that. Why don't you go find me the last NC, or even top 20 team that was made of all 1-2*?You can probably find 1 exception there too.Buckzip, the number of stars a player has is a reflection of who offered them, not of their athletic ability. Just look at scout's page for Akron recruiting: they made every single one of our recruits a 2-star guy today, where there used to be quite a few 1-star guys. They did that because MAC recruits are automatically 2-stars unless they have a significant amount of offers from BCS schools. That is not entirely true. Patrick Nicely is a 3 star knocking on 4 star and he doesn't have one BCS offer. There is a reason for the most part that MAC schools have their players rated as 2 stars. For goodness sakes watch the games. Most of the MAC players are just not as talented. Like anything else, there are a few guys that fall through the ratings crack like a Domenik Hixon, James Harrison, Ben Roethlisburger, Greg Jennings, etc... All those 4 and 5 star guys that USC, Miami, Florida, Texas, OSU, Oklahoma, etc.. gets every year sure seem to make a difference, don't they? Those teams recruit the cream of the crop BASED ON ATHLETIC ABILITY. The scouting services obviously see a kid not getting offers from bigger schools and most of the time correctly grade them out at a lower star level. I have no idea why some people on here think there is a conspiracy to downgrade MAC recruits star levels. Go to Rivals and click on the Akron verbals. Half of them show Akron as their ONLY OFFER! Go to any BCS conference and click on their players. Even the 2 and 3 star guys have multiple BCS offers. These programs have been doing this for decades. They know what they are doing. Thanks genius! Now get off this board and go find a buckeye board to get off on.That is the best you could come up with? What part of my comment was incorrect mr internet tough guy? Also, what is it with the OSU comment? What did I say that caused you to act like a 3 year old child and make a moronic statement? Some of you people on here amaze me with your maturity level. You simply can't have a conversation with some people without them going into attack mode. Pretty f'ing sad IMHO.I agree. I thought the whole point of these boards was to discuss the program, college football, etc and exchange opinions and information. I didn't realize you had to drown in the UA kool aid before being allowed to write anything.
-
I can't really answer your question but I did just want to point out that there is no real "home side". I only make this point because I got chewed out for using that term on here a while ago. Apparently that terminology is "low class". Regardless, I'd be surprised if the press box side had less seating than the east side. You got chewed out on this board? Why doesn't that surprise me?I agree though. I had a hard time believing the "west side" would be smaller.
-
ooooooooh! I looked this morning and didn't see those! :blink:Is the home (west side) seating going to be smaller than the east side seating? I keep trying to imagine how it is going to go up as high and it doesn't look quite right. Maybe it is just the perspective of the camera??

And we saw those results on the field this year during bowl season when 2 of our 3 best teams got pasted by C-USA teams.

Zips Replace Lost WR and add two more

It's almost 8:00 p.m. Are you still out there CK?!Sorry...basketball game put me in a coma yesterday. I'm just now emerging from it.I don't know the names. I do know it is defense. That is a thing of beauty. I think the majority of us are hoping for more talent of that side of the ball. -

Not to steal your thunder, but I heard that to protest the senseless hiring of a head coach from one of the Big 12's worst teams, at least half the team from a prominent SEC team plan on transferring and that most of them will be coming to Akron. However, I can't provide details until much later today as I must do some shopping. Are you serious about this? That would be HUGE!Ummm......no -
According to his statements on Rivals he never commited here to begin with. He said it was a mistake.a mistake? What's that supposed to mean? That's what I was wondering; a mistake on his part for verballing too soon, or simply a mistake or computer glitch on Rivals part? He's still listed on Akron's verbal commitment list. I hope this doesn't become another Rivals glitch like the infamous Jarvis Givens saga. From reading the article I think he was saying that he never actually committed, but Rivals had him down as one. Here is the quote..."Farr, who has more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of the past two seasons, runs a 4.5 in the 40. Previously listed as a commitment to Akron, Farr said that was inaccurate, and now he's headed in a new direction."

Oh please. I think it's time you pulled your head out of the ground and saw the light of day. Akron DOES compete with OSU for recruits, it just doesn't show up on every high school recruit website that people treat as the word of God. Akron competes with OSU for recruits, its just not the same way that OSU competes for recruits with Mich and PSU. If OSU wants to take someone else's recruit to fill a need they have, then that's the proof that's in the pudding. Its not Akron who's directly effected, but it shows that OSU and Ohio MAC teams do compete for talent.I think it is the exception and not the rule. You are kidding yourself if you think otherwise. If not, get me a list of players that OSU is battling a MAC team for. lolIt is a week or 2 before signing day. They lost their target recruit and their only backup is possibly transferring. What other choice do they have? 95% of the 3 and 4 star guys are locked up. They have a need, so they have to go to the backup plan. It is just like business. When one plan fails you move down the list to the next option. This happens to be it.
-
I highly doubt his stock will rise if he commits to OSU. The main writer for Ohio Varsity was on Rivals yesterday discussing this and he was flabbergasted. He mentioned that OSU was looking for a dual threat guy because that is the type of QB they want from now on. They lost out 2 days ago on the #4 qb in the country that committed to Clemson and they feel Pryor's backup is planning on transferring. That leaves them with a huge void at qb and this kid from Kettering Alter is a dual threat guy. Saying this...the guy from OhioVarsity said Patrick Nicely is far and away the best qb prospect in Ohio this year.

You absolutely crack me up with your tirades. Boise State was a joke. TCU doubled them in yardage and would have beaten them by 4 touchdowns if they didn't continuously turn the ball over due to the layoff rust. Boise State had no business being anywhere near a BCS bowl game. OSU would pound Boise State as would probably every other team in a BCS bowl this year with exception of Cincinnati.I do agree with you that we need a playoff system, but to call Oklahoma and Florida out is just ridiculous. Utah is a very good team, but lets be real....they didn't go undefeated playing Miami (Fl), Tennessee, Ole Miss, Arkansas, LSU, Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida State and Alabama!!!! That is who Florida played this year. Anyone can get up for one game, but I want to see Utah get up for ALL of those. Florida destroyed all these SEC teams. Look at the schedule and results. Sat, Aug 30 Hawaii W 56-10 Sat, Sep 6 Miami (FL) W 26-3 Sat, Sep 20 at Tennessee W 30-6 Sat, Sep 27 Mississippi L 30-31 Sat, Oct 4 at Arkansas W 38-7 Sat, Oct 11 (4) LSU W 51-21 Sat, Oct 25 Kentucky W 63-5 Sat, Nov 1 at (8) Georgia W 49-10 Sat, Nov 8 at Vanderbilt W 42-14 Sat, Nov 15 (24) South Carolina W 56-6 Sat, Nov 22 Citadel W 70-19 Sat, Nov 29 at (23) Florida State W 45-15 Sat, Dec 6 (1) Alabama W 31-20Utah played a worthless Michigan team that Toledo beat, Oregon State and TCU. That is it. at Michigan W 25-23 -- Sat, Sep 6 UNLV W 42-21 -- Sat, Sep 13 at Utah State W 58-10 -- Sat, Sep 20 at Air Force W 30-23 -- Sat, Sep 27 Weber State W 37-21 -- Thu, Oct 2 Oregon State W 31-28 -- Sat, Oct 11 at Wyoming W 40-7 -- Sat, Oct 18 Colorado State W 49-16 -- Sat, Nov 1 at New Mexico W 13-10 -- Thu, Nov 6 (11) TCU W 13-10 -- Sat, Nov 15 at San Diego State W 63-14 -- Sat, Nov 22 (16) Brigham Young W 48-24

Can the stadium really be seen from I-77, or just from Route 8?You can see it when taking 77 north and looking to the right at campus.

That's because Keith is a native Akronite, not a Youngstowner or other varietal outsider, Cap'n Like KD, I grew up with everyone around me calling our university Akron U. In fact, I can't remember ever hearing anyone call it by that long, drawn out name in an actual conversation.However...in official publication, like that Cali paper, someone should tell the author it's THE University of Akron. In fact, let's remind all the folks down Bucknut way about that also. What I really hate is when I tell someone I'm from Ohio, and they respond, "Oh, you're a Buckeye". Aaaaaaahhh! Mele kalikimaka from ka pae 'aina 'o Hawai'i nei to all the Akron U fans in the audience. You do realize this is the Buckeye State...Right?We get it. You like Ohio State and Akron. Some people disagree with you. Let's get over it now. That's not it at all. You are not being objective. Not everthing is sports related. When someone says you are a Buckeye from Ohio, they don't even need to be a sports fans.I know, and doesn't that stink to high heaven?! I know it pisses us Zips' fans right off!!! If someone assumes I'm a "Buckeye" because I live in Ohio I'm straight "Hell no!" I'm an all-too-rare independent thinker who is from Akron, not Columbus.Again, if someone justifies their front-runnerism by saying they're an OSU fan because they represent our state, then say, "Oh, really? You're not a frontrunner? Oh, then you must be a huge Ohio University fan too?!" And then they shut up. But you're doing them a favor, because before you enlightened them to the fact that they're nothing but run-of-the-mill front-running sheep, they actually thought they were okay. Remember, folks, tOSU is NOT friend of Akron. You may like them, but they don't like you. If they could wipe us off the map and suck all of our $$$ down to Columbus they'd do it in a blink of an eye. Burn in hell OSU.Some of you people are idiots and you just need to get over the penile envy thing. Ohio is the Buckeye state whether you like it or not. It isn't anything exclusive to Ohio and nobody is saying you are an OSU fan if they say you are a Buckeye. Michigan is the Wolverine state, Iowa is the Hawkeye state, Indiana is the Hoosier state, Kansas is the Jayhawk state, Minnesota is the Gopher state, Tennessee is the Volunteer state, etc, etc.... Do you see a trend with that? In a lot of cases the states "major" institution also takes the name of the states nickname. It isn't that difficult to comprehend. Also, OSU fans don't dislike Akron. In fact, 99% of OSU fans couldn't care less about Akron one way or the other. If anything they actually consider Akron a "local friend". It is a local school that many of their fanbase roots for when OSU isn't playing and vice versa. We don't compete for the same players in recruiting and we don't play the same schools. We don't fight for spots in the same bowl games either. Also, if you want to talk about representing our state, consider this....... Take a peek at the number of Ohio players on OSU's roster compared to Akron's. OSU is 75% Ohio kids. For the most part they are also the best that Ohio has to offer, so yes, I do think they are a representation of our state whether you like to admit it or not. However, I believe every Ohio college sports team is a representation of our state. OSU just tends to be the biggest one. What does Ohio University and front-runner have to do with anything? Ohio University was the first university founded in Ohio. Congratulations. OU is not the states flagship university. Here....check out this little tidbit of "facts" and you will see why people say the school represents Ohio........"The Ohio State University (OSU) is a public research university in the state of Ohio. The university was founded in 1870 as a land-grant university and is currently the largest single-campus university in the United States.[4][5] Ohio State is currently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the best public university in Ohio, among the top 60 universities in the United States, and among the top 20 public universities in the United States.[6] Ohio State has been officially designated as the flagship institution of the state's public system of higher education[7] by the newly centralized University System of Ohio. In 1906, Ohio State's status as the state's flagship campus was written into law by the Ohio legislature through the Eagleson Bill."I don't even know why I bothered to write this because I am sure I will be attacked and called names for just stating facts and not calling OSU the great satan. It just frustrates me to high heaven to see Akron fans act like a bunch of jealous pouters and haters. Just focus on getting OUR university to a higher level and stop worrying about ripping on the school that is to the level that we want ours to be and has been that way since before any of us were even born.

Just checked Rivals and they have us getting a commit today from Baltimore wr Sean Farr. He is rated a 5.7, which is a 3 star. 5.8 is a 4 star, so he is highly regarded.

When it comes to football, one program has stood above all the others in the history of the Akron City Series, and it's Garfield. It was very appropriate that the last City Series game in the Rubber Bowl was Garfield/Buchtel (arguably the two best City Series' programs), and it was nice to see the good guys win another championship. Nice to see the Beacon get one thing right, as they don't get much right! Go Rams! That's right when you're saying history. But, Garfield hadn't won a city title since 2001 before they won this one and they still got the best coverage 2002 through last year even the year they went 2-8 a couple of years ago, you would thought they were 8-2 the way the ABJ covered them. They haven't been the best team Six of the the last seven years and couple of those years were only a Kenmore, Firestone and Central-Hower from being in the basement. Bottom line is they didn't warrant getting game coverage and human interests coverage they got six of the last seven years over the other HS's.There more then one HS in Akron and while Garfield has proud tradition and history. It's not right to basically ignore 5 of the other 6 schools when comes to scores and coverage. That's truly sad saying Garfield is the best team so we're going to cover them and screw everybody else.An attitude like that is why the ABJ covers Ohio St and say screw UofA who sits on the same street as them. Most of their coverage this decade was because of a single player: Beanie Wells. As soon as he verballed to OSU (I believe he was a sophomore), everybody, especially the ABJ, treated him like the football version of LeBron. There were better running backs playing for other high school teams in Akron at the same time, but because he was going to go to OSU he got all the attention. You shouldn't even post if you are going to make idiotic comments like this. Wells was the #1 OVERALL recruit in the United States of America. No area running backs were better. In fact, Wells would be the 1st running back taken in the NFL draft if he came out this year. The guy was one of the 2 or 3 leading Heisman candidates before his early season injury. If you don't like OSU that is one thing. Being an idiot and making stupid comments just to rip on OSU is something else entirely. This crap needs to stop on this board. I doubt OSU fans are on their boards ripping on the Zips. lolI thought this thread was about the new stadium yet somehow we veer off into this garbage.

Not to mention that the footprint of the North Endzone Building going in.Anyone have any idea when the second deck of the home seating will go in?
-
I agree with this quite a bit. I love scheduling bigger OOC schools, but we need to be smart about it. We need to schedule and keep scheduling the Syracuse, Cincinnati, Indiana, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Purdue type teams. Why? Because they are big names that draw people to the games + we have a chance to be very competitive. Those teams will also negotiate home and home series with us. All you get with OSU, PSU, etc.. every year is a big check, a road game and an L in the column. Besides the money it doesn't do much for us at this stage of our programs current level.

Thank You Zips Players and Staff
Zipgrad01 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I have never heard so much of a response (from the casual Joe Fan) after a Zips game as compared to this one. I had off the wall people texting me about the game, ect... I heard QUITE a few people at work standing around talking about the game. I have never heard anyone actually stand in the hallways and sit in meetings and discuss Zips games before, so I was pleasantly surprised. I always had to butt into the conversation and give them the "this program is on the rise" speech. I made sure I told them about the new on campus stadium and more than a handful said they will be going to check them out.Akron being on television about every week and being competitive is really giving the program the much needed exposure it has always lacked. I was surprised how many "They held their own with Wisconsin for a while" and "they looked great against Syracuse" comments I heard. Lets just hope we can keep the ball rolling and impress every time we get that television exposure. -
The pics of NFL Zips from the rubber bowls past would have been an excellent idea. Too bad you don't work for the UA marketing department.
