  1. They absolutely did it to sell more water and soft drinks at the concession areas. I can somewhat understand schools getting away with the lack of fountains "up north" in Akron because our game temps are never that hot unless it is the 1st game or two, but in Central Florida?
  2. I am not sure if you can fill it the same year or not. Good question. Maybe someone on here knows the answer. I know we end up getting an extra scholarship the following year, but I have no idea if it is lost this season.
  3. That is why I asked the question. I read the BuckeyePlanet pre game report for the Akron game .I read that tidbit about Moore and Hill. However, Hill isn't at Hargrave, so it made me question the validity of the post. Hill is at Milford Academy, not Hargrave. I looked on the rosters for Hargrave, Milford, Fork Union, Valley Forge, etc... and I have not seen Moore anywhere. That is why I posted the question here.As for the complaining.....how is it? I just asked a question. As for Buckzips comments about recruits not qualifying. How is that complaining? That is a realistic concern when a school is trying to build a program. If your most highly touted guys never step on the field it does an enormous amount of damage to the program. If you see no problem with that trend then I hope you enjoy 5-7 seasons because they will be the norm.
  4. LOLYou obviously didn't watch the OSU-Washington game because OSU seemed to have an entirely new play book. Tressel even said in the pre game interview that he didn't open the play book during the first 2 weeks of the season. All he did was run vanilla plays and rotate a ton of players starting on the 2nd and 3rd drives. Yeah, Akron's D played good against OSU, but lets not fool ourselves. They could have put up 50 if they really wanted to. If you think Indian's offense is even on the same planet as OSU's you really need to watch more football.
  5. No they won't answer it because it will make them look like asses. They had to make me look like an evil fan for saying he probably wasn't going to be a Zip and now it looks like I was right. Of course they won't answer.
  6. Well, it is like any other sport. They keep adding teams and it keeps watering down the talent. 20 years ago there weren't as many teams as there are now, so many of the borderline players that are in the NFL now wouldn't have made the roster with 5 or 6 less teams. Also, football now days evolves much quicker than it used to. In the 70's and 80's most teams ran the same offenses and defenses and they did so for years and years. Coaches were in place for decades with one team and so were the players. Now organizations go through coaches and players (due to free agency) like we go through underwear. New schemes have popped up like crazy in the last 15 years with the west coast offenses, etc.. Defenses have also come a long way. There are so many hybrid defenses and new schemes that is really makes the qb's job tough. The qb's are changing offenses and coaches every 2 or 3 years. On top of that, he has to prepared for new disguised blitz packages and Tampa 2 defenses that he has never seen before.
  7. I love his 4.35 gpa. We wouldn't have to worry about him qualifying. He would be a sure thing to hit the field.
  8. Zips Win! .....kiss my ass douche bag. I am a season ticket holder for Akron and I go to Zips games. I have traveled to Annapolis, etc... to attend Zips football games. I went to the OSU game in Austin with a group of people to have a good time AND I also root for the Buckeyes. I really don't need your permission to tell me who to root for or what games to attend. I have been to both Akron games this year and I have taken 3 Buckeye fans that also now like the Zips to both games with me. FYI....I will be going to Los Angeles next year when OSU plays USC. It is a great time, a great atmosphere, and it will be a fun game. You telling me I am a shill for the Buckeyes program doesn't change my opinion one bit. It just makes you look like a crybaby loser.Anyway...why don't you just mind your own F'ing business about my sports endeavors because I can honestly give two shits about yours. I don't need pieces of shit like you telling me to go away or where I should spend my money. I also don't need YOU telling me what a "real fan" would do. So buzz off.
  9. Just saw on Rivals where Pittsburgh offered him on Wednesday. Good for him. Can't believe we haven't with our kicking situation.
  10. Why don't you want OSU fans there? I guarantee that they will all be cheering for Akron. I went to the OSU - Texas game in Austin last year and OSU fans took over a tequila bar/southwestern restaurant called the Iron Cactus that was right on 6th street. OSU fans bitched at the bartender until they put the Akron-NC State game on and the whole place was going crazy during the 4th quarter. I felt like I was AMONG a bunch of Zips fans! You want them there and you want them to see us beat Indiana. That is how you get a secondary fan base. You are never going to pry these people away from being OSU fans, but some of these locals will find themselves going to Zips games if they see that the product is good. Besides....I will be watching the game in my basement on the 57" high definition tv drinking a freshly tapped keg out of my bar. Anyone is more than welcome. lol
  11. Tee height was brought up being the reason for this kids leg. This is a story about him in the plain dealer..........Height: 5-11. Weight: 175.Grade-point average: 4.35.Class rank: 2 (out of 871).Kicking stats: He has made 6 of 8 field-goal attempts this season, including 44, 58 and 61 yards (state record). Missed from 25 and 38 yards. Made 7 of 14 attempts last season.Tee time: High school kickers can use a 1-inch tee for kicks. Harper uses a half-inch tee to show colleges he is ready to kick off the turf. College kickers do not use tees.College plans: Considering a business major, possibly law.Record ball: The ball used for the state-record 61-yard field goal went back in the Mentor ball bag. Harper said he intends to keep using it.-- Tim Warsinskey
  12. Thanks for the info, but I pray that you are not a U of A grad. If so, every member of the english department should be fired immediately. Either that or somebody was hitting the sauce a little heavy when this paragraph was written.
  13. One again you have to show your true colors. You have to be pompous in your replies every time I make a post. By the way....last time you locked the thread after you answered. That was really grown up of you.Anyway.....I saw on the internet he signed at a prep school. Can anyone PROVE he is at Akron? If not my horrible doom and gloom must have been correct.
  14. I know I got my head bitten off when I brought this up before because I "assumed" the worst when he wasn't on the roster by the date he was suppose to be. Anyway.... is he on the team? I heard that he ended up going to a prep school. Since I have seen ZERO news on this I figured I would throw it out there.
  15. Nice catch. I was just about to comment on the pay grade thing as well. Maybe a more appropriate comment would have been...."that is going to be a decision that is made about my IQ level".Cincy is starting to build a nice program, but I had no idea they had "arrived" yet. I mean, they had about 25,000 people at their huge ESPN televised game against Oregon State. I believe Akron would draw that or more against Oregon State for a special event Sunday night game.
  16. Ok. I don't care if he has a block 4 inches tall, he still kicked the 1st and I believe 3rd longest fields in the history of Ohio high school football. I can see where a block lets a normal kid kick a 40 yarder, but any kid consistently hitting from upper 40's to low 60's in a game is a stud.
  17. That guy is a douche. I just roll my eyes at almost every commentary he makes.
  18. Which game plan was that? Was that not letting Santonio Holmes catch a 50 yard td or was it missing about 40 tackles and not being able to run the ball AT ALL? If those parts were in the game plan then yeah, he had to throw them out the window.I find this funny because Terry Pluto even wrote in the paper on Monday that the Steelers stopped blitzing so much once they brought Anderson in. The game was in hand and it wasn't all scapegoat Charlie's fault. Fact is....Phil and Romeo are trying to save their jobs and the fans are dumb enough to believe these clowns when they say "It was Frye's fault." Do you honestly think Savage is going to say "Well, Joe Thomas got beat all day and Steinbach didn't make much of an impact either. Jamal Lewis couldn't run the ball and our new guys couldn't tackle. Basically, all my off season moves didn't do jack shit to help the team so far." That is the reality, but don't ever expect him to say it. He is being a politician now and spinning everything to make himself look free of blame.
  19. I listened to Savages press conference and it really rubbed me the wrong way. He basically said that they thought about getting rid of Frye on draft day, but they felt his value wouldn't rise if they kept him, so they did. They wanted a practice dummy to beat around for the beginning of the season and also to keep the heat off Quinn because they had no idea how long he would hold out. Plus, they know Charlie is a good little soldier and never mouths badly about the team.Basically, they used Frye this entire time instead of letting him go and try to earn a job with another team. It is shady and I lost a lot of respect for the Browns. I used to be a die hard and I keep liking them less and less. I will have a hard time rooting for them with Romeo and Phil are still there.
  20. The kid from Mentor kicked a 58 yarder in week one against Mooney then hit a state record 61 yarder on Friday against Solon. He is a rivals 2 star kicker and right now he only has 2 offers. One from Can't and one from .......I don't remember, but it isn't a big school.
  21. Yeah, it would be a sellout, but who cares? It is short sighted to see a sellout against YSU as a "good thing" for our program. If we have to depend on bringing in a local D1-AA team in order to get a sellout then we might as well pack it in and drop down a level.Playing YSU does not do anything good for our program. NOTHING!! Name one good thing it does beside a sell out one day. Does it help us in recruiting? No. Kids already think Akron isn't "big time" enough for them, so how is hosting an even smaller opponent a good way to get recruits? Does it help the programs prestige? No. Look at my statement above. A lot of uneducated Ohio fans think we are about on par with YSU anyway, so why on earth would we stoop down to the level of playing them? It would set us back 5 years or more if we lost to them. Can you imagine our recruits in the stands if they had to watch us get beat by YSU? That would be tragic. Does YSU cause students or alumni to get excited about the game? No. Akron never played YSU when I was in school. Akron should not play YSU now because most UA students would view that as a step down. We already have a hard time getting them to the game now. Do you think us playing YSU will get them pumped up to come back to the stadium for more games? The only UA fans that think it is a good idea are the older fan base that grew up watching this series when we were both tiny little nobody schools. We are trying to break that image. It is one thing when an established power plays a D1-AA school every few years. They are selling tickets regardless and they can normally (within 99% chance) guarantee a blow out victory. Nothing is a sure thing with us. Our non conference home games need to be something to draw fans interest as well as provide a platform to help build our program. YSU just does nothing in that regard. Bring in a Cincy, Marshall, Syracuse, Maryland, Northwestern, etc... Hell, we could probably get a sellout if we played Mount Union. Do you think THAT would be good for our program? We need to look at the big picture here and not do potential harm just to sell a few extra seats for ONE game.
  22. Say it ain't so. Scheduling this game doesn't do anything for our program except hurt it. If we win, it is no big deal because we should. If we lose, that would pretty much chase anyone out of that brand new stadium for a long time into the future. We have trouble getting fans into the seats now because they don't think the program is a major D1 player. Can you imagine the image hit we would take if we lost to a D1-AA team at home? If he schedules this game he should be fired. Anyone that wants to see that new stadium will wait and go to a high school game instead of a Zips football game.I would rather get beat by a Cincinnati type team (who is getting tough by the way), than beat a worthless D1-AA team. And to answer your other question....I doubt the game would be that fabulous if the two teams played this year. Our defense would shut you down and I sure as hell know you don't have the horses on your D that OSU does. They made our offense look way worse than it really is against "normal" opponents. Don't say you had more yards against OSU either, because the OSU coaches said after the Akron game that the went pretty much vanilla and base against YSU on D, but they brought it with Akron.
  23. Racer...were you watching the same game I was? Akron's D played good, but the difference in talent on their D as compared to our D was night and day. Nobody on our D would play on their D. Not one single person.
  24. I think you are both somewhat right in what you are saying. But, you have to look at it another way. There isn't a team in the NFL right now that doesn't have "their guy" at quarterback. You can argue about Harrington in Atlanta, but that organization isn't even dumb enough to shelf him after one game like the Browns did to Frye. The only other team I can think of is possibly the Jets because nobody is that high on Pennington anymore after the arm surgeries. Saying this...the 6th round pick is a fair price considering he is being brought in as a backup basically anywhere he goes. BUT, the teams also thought enough of him to give up the pick AND pay his $1 million salary. They obviously thought more of Frye than Byron Leftwich.
