If this were Akron's football team, the ball would've bounced off that backboard, defied physics, and landed inside Michigan's hoop (to contrast the difference in luck).
Ohio and Michigan going to OT after Ohio, down 2 with 2.1 seconds left, threw a full court pass off the backboard that bounced straight to their player who missed the layup but another Ohio player followed it up. Unreal.
Easy, Noel.
One team was gifted a goal to start the match. Not saying Akron shouldn't have been more disciplined and mentally tough, but claiming emotional superiority on the back of that officiating is pretty empty.
Simple solution for the refs: be better.
This happens in every sport. Working the refs is gamesmanship. If the ref(s) can't handle it, don't officiate.
Talent wise, yes. They need to become stronger mentally, though. The officiating was awful, but after the 1st PK (like I said, one of the worst calls in the history of sport), nothing changed in our intensity.
I'm a diehard both. A break from the heartbreak isn't the worst thing in the world. I know wins are coming (for the Zips; I have zero faith in Stefanski).
EMU & Oakland headed to OT.
UPDATE: Oakland wins by 2 in OT.
Howard is up by 5 on Buffalo with 3 minutes to play.
UPDATE: Howard wins by 2.
Portage County School of Music beat Chicago State by 29.
St. Bonnie beat BUGS by 13.
Buffalo falls to 1-3 after an 8 pt loss to Drake.
Ohio lost by 14 the other night to Detroit "Have" Mercy.
Solid slate of games this weekend and next week.
Dear Futbol/Soccer gods,
What fknbuflobo meant to say was, "No first round match went to PKs. Hope that is a trend, unless Akron needs them to win."
Sincerely,
University of Akron Men's Soccer Fans
Akron was talked about pretty in depth on both the Georgetown and Pitt broadcasts. It's very fun to hear Akron being "sought after" and highly thought of. Much different from the typical banter we hear about Akron.
