Here's an interesting question: does X need to be 1st Team All MAC for Akron to win the MAC? Or is there enough of a supporting cast where 2nd Team All MAC will suffice?
-
Can't wait to head down to the Info here in a few hours. This will actually be my oldest daughter's first Akron sporting event (I forgot we had tickets to the Guardians game the same day as BUGS). Time to immerse her in Zips fandom!
I believe someone said the Team Shop was well stocked with new "A" gear - I'm hoping that's still true.

Kirk Herbstreit was talking about Getsy last night, and I was hoping he'd say, "Get this Al. Mike Tirico and I called the 2005 MAC Championship Game in which Luke threw the game winning touchdown with under 15 seconds left in the game."

I'm asking as a former pig skin player, did the official let WM get away with too much physical play? We seemed to mimic them as the game progressed. If all the pushing and bumping is legit, I think we will see more of that in the future. That seemed to take us off our game.
Physicality has always been our Achilles' heel. During the prime of the Porter days, we would always outclass our opponents skill wise. Most close matches occurred when the opponent was more physical (i.e. blOSU). I hate that style of soccer, but it is what it is. I didn't think WMU was too physical. I actually was more annoyed with their flopping.

Reminds me of Northwestern in 2007(?) with their stupid field right on the shores of Lake Michigan. Stupid NCAA...
At least there aren't ice shards pelting everyone in the face this game.

I looked up at the game and saw the white screen as well. Not sure what happened there.
I believe, because they don't have lights, their light exposure was turned way up. When the sun came out from behind the clouds, it blinded the camera.

1-0 at the half.
WMU flops like a fish out of water.
-
For those not watching, in typical Akron-fan luck, the camera went completely white as we were attacking and scored the goal. It's 1-0, but we never saw it.

MAC soccer is a joke.
Wait, let me shorten that.
The MAC is a joke.

Called it.
Hopefully this is a wake up call for him, but I'm sure Eastern will just pretend like nothing happened and he'll play the whole season. I mean Alex Abreu faced bigger consequences for selling weed. He was suspended indefinitely from the Zips and never returned. Gun charges are way more serious. Especially since he's probably involved in some shady crap if he's carrying an unregistered firearm.

I needed a little pick-me-up earlier today and scrolled through the MAC tournament thread on here. Man, it was a party that night! This board was hopping, and the liquor in my house was F L O W I N GThis video was a massive shot of adrenaline earlier that day. Never forget the classless stupidity that is Failure University - Kent Campus.

though to be fair, we said the same about Kentucky when that was scheduled too, probably
If Rutgers becomes a top 15 team with a Heisman candidate/top NFL prospect at QB, we can market that we have magical powers to middling P5 programs that will turn their program into a powerhouse upon scheduling us. That would truly be a miracle.
Love this game. That 2024 schedule is Kentucky, Rutgers, South Carolina for the time being. I can't remember if that 2024 UK game is the one that we're looking to move off of? 2027 has Rutgers and San Jose State.

If it makes you feel any better the Browns are having the same types of problems on defense.😵
Let's just hope JoeMo isn't like Stefanski and does nothing about the mediocrity on Defense/Special Teams.

In their first recruiting season I believe they actually sowed a hybrid grass crop; 50% Kentucky Blue, 50% Crab.

I didn't watch the game, as I was at the marathon that was the Guardians game (my 3 year old daughter lasted all 15 innings, which included a nap in her seat from the bottom of the 7th until the 10th inning; trooper, and she set the bar high for her baby sister).
Obviously the defense was the problem today, and has been a bit of an issue in general. Anybody with insider information know why Toth left for Air Force? Tibesar's track record is underwhelming, and I'm wondering if a change at DC will take place under JoeMo at some point since Tibesar wasn't the first choice.

Andre Jones was a weapon on Special Teams. A month and 1 day prior to this, he was part of the Miracle at the Zoo and one of the greatest French calls of all time.
Because it's Guardians playoff day, this was also a day or 2 after the infamous Bug Game vs the Yankees in the 2007 ALDS.
Go Zips & Guardians!

BUGS plays old OSUcks soccer, which has always given us problems.
Bad tie.

1-0 Akron at the half.
Had to defend WAY too much on BUGS' side of the pitch, but we defended well to keep a clean sheet thus far.
Clapier chipped the goalie from the left size. Incredibly cheeky goal.

I was at the game on Saturday and I was surprised how much updated/new logo merchandise that they had in the pro shop in the stadium. They had a great selection of everything - hats, shirts, sweatshirts etc. Way better selection than the student center gift shop. Now the price...that's another story, if it has the swoosh on it it won't be cheap.
If only Shaq were from Akron and not LeBum. Maybe we'd actually have affordable merchandise.
