Game 20- Northern Illinois Huskies

German had 9 pts until deep in the 2nd half. Akron's defense is the real deal. -

4-3 in the MAC - tied for 3rd in the MAC. That was a big win. -

NIU is getting close to making out their $#@! Shot Meter. -

If NIU wins, the box scores need to scratch Huskies from the team name, and replace it with German. -

That turnover was on Ivey, not Riak. Riak had his one arm held, and tipped the ball to the deep corner, which is where Ivey should have been with correct spacing. Ivey leaked up too far. Not a very under control play but not ill advised. -

Akron comes out with 2 made 3s. Both were catch and shoot. -

Not only are they shooting, but Ford has them running a catch and shoot drill. Coaching. Love it. -

I'm not even going to question how this is a 2 pt game. Play on, boys! -
Without quoting a bunch of posts, here are a few of my thoughts... - $10 parking is a joke; it should at most be $5. They used to only charge parking during big games. - Concessions lack any sort of personal touch to connect with fans - Zippy meals, better pricing, marketing campaigns, etc. - The in-season ticket package has a stagnant price ($75 or something like that) despite not being a season ticket ($60 for season tickets) and a dwindling number of games included each time it's advertised. That's some Can't State math/logic... - The marketing is really, really bad. They seem content with the fan base they currently have, having made somewhat weak attempts to draw the greater Akron community to the games. - Dizzy bat is the single greatest time out promotion ever. They need to do it every time out, minus maybe once for the kids on the bouncy balls. They should also get the zorb balls or whatever they're called and have 2 people run at each other, colliding, and seeing who moves the furthest. - The media production of the games needs to get better, both in game and before/after. I know Chad is doing a great job with what he has, but there needs to be more support from the University to take the production to the next level. That will only help with marketing the University. - The timing of certain entertainment factors is headscratching at times. The championship level soccer program was introduced at halftime earlier this season, with very little/no prior announcement. Most people had already gone to walk around. There is no common chant to get the crowd engaged (FSU's War Chant, Hang on Sloopy for OSUcks, etc.). This isn't just a basketball problem either. The University lacks a mind/visionary with the drive and creativity to make Akron something special. EDIT: I forgot one MASSIVE frustration... No matter who they have manning the t-shirt cannon, nobody knows how to 1) wrap the t-shirts so they don't open up mid flight or 2) fire the thing properly at the correct launch angle.

He's still having nightmares of McAdams, Kretzer, McNeese, and Linhart dominating O-Who & the MAC. Damn those slow, white, cerebral players... -
Game 19 - Central Michigan Chippewas

Well, we just beat a previously 14-4 CMU squad while shooting 18.5% from beyond the arc as a team, and your top scorer put up a goose egg. Your first sentence contradicts your last sentence (bold). -
That was from his, what, Sophomore year? Wow.

Beating CMU with the stat line Utomi had is a testament to our defense and how gritty this team can be. They just need to figure out how to bottle up that effort & focus, and unleash it game in and game out. The JUCO kids, especially Cheese, are starting to figure out what MAC play is, which is a 13 round boxing match. The MAC may not have the best talent around, but you're going to get a fight from each and every team. That is where our road woes are coming from, because we can't find that full 13-round fight in us like we have at home. It's also nice to see Roscoe gaining some confidence with a growing role in the rotation. Groce is a March coach. I know I've said it a lot, but I can't help but look at each game as preparation for March. Speaking of months, I can't believe we're already nearly done with January. -

He doesn't sound like a Pinky recruit, much less a Can't recruit in general. -
And one of the nicest human beings you will ever meet. Glad to hear he's making the turnaround!
-
He still struggles with ball handling, but he has adapted to that weakness, putting himself in positions when he does drive or back his defender down, to minimize that weakness. Ivey frustrates the hell out of me sometimes, but his growth has been fantastic. I'm most impressed by his demeanor. He had a hot head last year, and is able to control his emotions much, much better this year. Kudos to him and the coaching staff on working with him.

5 games early and Can't State still sucks. Didn't think this game would get picked up. -
Must win.

Not to mention the ever-quickly-covered-up accusation of academic fraud. Thank you for the Andy Griffith Show reference!

Hence the "not trying to justify Gueye's actions" statement I used in my comment. I'm not making excuses for Gueye's actions. My point was more an example to show there may be more to this story than we know. I don't know Mark off the court, but on the court, I've seen him get under plenty of opposing players' skin. Again, zero justification for Gueye's actions, but the tone being implied in some posts is this came out of nowhere which is really, really odd.
-
There are some massive assumptions being made, and those assumptions are turning into unproven judgement and accusations. For all we know, Mark could have made a comment to Gueye that either isn't being reported or nobody heard, that led to an altercation (not trying to justify Gueye's actions). There are some extremely odd and troubling questions to come from this, but until the facts are out and we have absolute proof of fault, assumptions shouldn't be made. Has Gueye been officially dismissed from the team (I apologize if I've missed this in an earlier post)? I think it's odd there doesn't seem to be any defense of Kostelac from the team or coach. You would think if a guy were 100% innocent in a situation, there would be more of a public attempt to defend and apologize to the guy.
