  1. I started going to Zips games when he was just starting. I was about 1-2 yrs old. I loved watching Ball, George Phillips, Bruce Weinkein, Klaas Zolner, and others playing back in the mid-late 90's. Favorite all time memory of that group was all of the Can't State games. The place was always packed... everyone was always screaming... and Can't State still sucks. Bruce Weinkein was my best friend back then. My mom always tells the story of how one Halloween I asked to be him. I wore that jersey she made me to every game. I was actually on the news. Bruce and I got to know each other really well. He would take me into the locker room and I got everyone's autograph on a basketball. One Christmas, he even gave me a game worn jersey. I hear he's doing well in Arizona where he lives. Anyways, those were good times back then. The days now kind of remind me of back then. The players and fans have a tight connection again. The only thing different is that the AK-Rowdie's section now, was called "The Pouch" back then. Good times, good times. Go Zips! :thumb::champs::screwks:

  2. Did anyone see the winning goal? It was just like Miami's bank shot in a way: TOTAL LUCK! The Miami player slid in front of the guy shooting. The puck hit the leg of the sliding player and spun in the air. It kind of curved itself around of the goalie and into the goal. It was totally hilarious. If it doesn't hit the player's leg, the goalie stops it.

  3. We haven't visited this topic in a while, but, to anyone in the marching band, and everyone part of the ZipsNation, what pregame plans is the university putting together? We'll be opening the Info before we know it, so I'm assuming our athletic department has spent countless hours, and many sleepless nights, researching, brainstorming and planning the entire game day experience, right? Pregame band session in the JAR? Military-style, drum-cadence-driven parade from the JAR to the Info? Anything? Again, I haven't heard a peep on this subject in a very long time and the silence has me more than a bit concerned.
If I can get jalapenos with my nachos @ Infocision I will consider the University's planning to have been a major success.
Doors on the bathroom stalls would be a nice tradition to start.....
They have to start the bathroom stall tradition before they add doors.
  4. I'm looking forward to watching Matt Rogers. I haven't seen a true QB at Akron in my short life time so I'm interested to see what he can bring. Now if the question was "What are you most looking forward too about the Zips?", I would have to say the defense. I like the new adjustments. I also think we are getting the coaches that are need to help this team.

  5. It's amazing what a good coach Waters is. He can take a group of previously poorly coached great athletes and turn them into something good.Cedric Jackson was absolutely great last night. In big games, a lot needs to go right and you need your best player to be at the top of his game. CSU got both and now they are on to the second round.
So now that CSU made the 2nd round and UA left in the first, anyone think Waters will be open to renewing the rivalry games?
Probably only if the first renewal game is in Akron will KD agree.
  6. Akron's freshman point guard Humpty Hitchens is still nursing a sprained ankle. And while he showed no ill effects in his 10-point 10-minute first-half effort in Akron's Mid-American Conference Championship game, he said the ankle is still tender."Before the game I wasn't 100 percent, but I told coach (Keith) Dambrot I wanted to play,'' Hitchens said Sunday. "I felt good in warm-ups. I felt good when the game started. When he called my number I was so excited, I came with a lot of energy."But the more I played on it the more I could feel it throbbing. I kept playing on it saying, 'I'm not hurt.' ''Hitchens, who went through limited practice Monday, said he looks to be at full strength by the time No. 13 Akron plays No. 4 Gonzaga in Portland Thursday night."I'll be ready,'' he said. "I gotta play. I'm ready.'' source
Holy crap the next three years look bright. You have to love this guy's attitude.
His attitude is great now; wait until Zeke gets here next year. :thumb:
  7. Looking forward to our game. Feel free to stop by our Board for a visit.http://www.guboards.spokesmanreview.com/I'm off to do some research on your program and will be back when I can talk intelligently about the matchup. GoZags
Thanks GoZags. I am really looking forward to this matchup. I honestly believe it's going to be a good game. Your team is very good this year, and has been over the years. I remember watching you guys play and beat Tennessee both times. Great games. Well, let's just hope we can stay with the team that puts the "major" in mid-major. Go Zips!
  8. I've paid my dues - Time after time - I've done my sentence But committed no crime - And bad mistakes I've made a few I've had my share of sand kicked in my face - But I've come through We are the champions - my friends And we'll keep on fighting - till the end - We are the champions - We are the champions No time for Can't State 'Cause we are the champions - of the MAC - I've taken my bows And my curtain calls - You brought me fame and fortuen and everything that goes with it - I thank you all - But it's been no bed of roses No pleasure cruise - I consider it a challenge before the whole human race - And I ain't gonna lose - We are the champions - my friends And we'll keep on fighting - till the end - We are the champions - We are the champions No time for Can't State 'Cause we are the champions - of the MAC - :screwks::champs::screwks::champs:

  9. There were enough bad calls last night (both ways), the team of refs doesn't deserve any credit. The better team won.
I second that. We need to keep having our guards drive to the basket and draw fouls. That's the way we're winning right now.
  10. If our guards play as well as they did against Miami, we win. If our guards drive to the basket, we win. If Polk gets going and doesn't cool off, or we can't stop him, they win. I just hope C. McKnight and Nikola can handle their big men. Akron- 70BGSUCKS- 55Let's Go Zips! :screwks:

  11. Anyone else hear KD on the postgame show? He said he'd done it before and it was only a matter of time before he got caught. Then he compared it to drunk driving. "You do it enough times, you're gonna get caught." Looks like Singletipsy got busted on both. If we see them again in the tournament, the Rowdies better think of something good for him.Just watched it again...what a pathetic piece of trash. You do that in public, you're facing assault charges...you do it in a basketball game, apparently you're ejected for 39 minutes and not suspended. What a crock of $h!t.
Yes, I did hear what KD said on the postgame show; he's sooooo right. That guy needs jail. He needs to get suspended for the entire tourney, and then get kicked out of basketball.Anyone else notice also, that Geno Ford maybe defending Chris? I mean it sucks to lose one of your best players, but to defend that kind of classlessness is just absurd. Bring Christian back; at least he kept the rivalry respectful (for the most part, since it's Can't State).
  12. lilroodude....in Ford's defense, he probably didn't really know yet exactly what his player did. I'm sure he was still getting the "I didn't do anything" story from his player. Lets just hope he does the right thing now and boots him from the team permanently. Enough is enough.
Oh, no, I totally see that, but I was just saying that he was hounding the refs about Chris Singletary and they had the monitor on the table and I saw him come over to watch. He might not have seen it, but again it's just what I saw.By the way, I'm listening to Michael Reghi on ESPN 850 the Radio, and he said that Chris is suspended for 1 game.

  14. question: because he was ejected, doesn't he have an automatic 1 game suspension? or is that up to the discretion of the coach/university?
No game suspension because is was not a fighting foul. According to the talking heads on tv.
But apparently they called it a non-basketball move, so what was it?
