  1. I voted 20+ win season no matter what we do in the MAC tourney just to throw it in Can't State's ugly faces. I came into this year with high hopes because I knew, or was hoping, the MAC would be down. After the first month or 2 of the season, I lowered my expectations and I just want another 20+ win season. By the way, I was being showed how to create my own shot better in practice and the man coaching me said, "You already don't get a lot of playing time, so why not just show your coach you can shoot? WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO LOSE?" Here's the Zips' version: "You already didn't have a whole lot of respect in the beginning so what have you got to lose?"GO FOR THE NCAA TOURNEY ZIPS! SHOW THE WORLD THEY NEED TO FEAR THE ROO!

  2. Currently, Akron is at 4-3 in the MAC, tied with BG and WMU. That's good for the 4th seed in the tournament, thanks to us holding the tiebreaker over both BG and WMU, via the head-to-head against the Falcons and a better record against common opponents with WMU.
I'm quite happy with how these young Zips are doing in the MAC right now. The 3 losses are @O-Who, @Miami (OH), and Buffalo (who is leading the MAC). The Miami and OU losses are away and early in the MAC season. I think we could be them both at home, seeing as though both went into OT, and we almost won both. The Buffalo loss was a good loss in my opinion. We lost by 2 to them, whereas other teams have been killed by Buffalo (Can't State lost by 11; Miami lost by 12). Our wins are against a few cupcakes, and 1 rival. BGSU, who is decent at times, we beat by 10 at BGSU. Can't State we creamed by 14 at home. That's a really impressive win in my opinion for as young a team we have and how big a game that is for the Akron community. Beating Toledo at Toledo was a statement also. Toledo isn't that great, but seeing as though we hadn't won there since 2000, I'd say that's kind of big. CMU was by far the biggest cupcake we've played so far. I won't even go into that game. All-in-all, I think we're in pretty good shape. We just have to stay healthy.
  3. I say, if we need some excitement, and some rebounds, put Swiech in. Last time he was in, he dunked it and the JAR shook like no other. I do think we have the heart and talent to win this game; it's execution that worries me. We haven't had shooters step up. Guys are committing stupid fouls. I think if we play smart and execute well, we will at least have a chance to win. Key players on my list:BARDO! He NEEDS to be a force inside. The McKnight Brothers! Need to be a force inside and outside. McNees! Needs to regain his lost confidence. Just my 2 cents. GO ZIPS!P.S. My basketball game wasn't rescheduled so I can make the game! :thumb:

  4. I can't believe only 2 comments on this game so far. It was a pretty nice road win, and definitly a game that this team can build on. Come on Zipsnation, wake up. This team isn't THAT bad.
My dad and I were talking the other day. He had mentioned that there always seems to be that sleeper that wakes up in the MAC tourney. He and I agreed that the Zips could be that team. Great win by the Zips though. I was at Can't State ice skating and feeling very dirty ( Long story short, I'm going to take a very long shower to get all the Hippy off of me :puke: ), so I couldn't really listen to the game, but I kept calling my dad for updates. The fact that we won by 10, and came back from being down by 10 is a good sign. The Zips are just like babies, feeling around for what works and what doesn't. By the end of the season, though, I think the MAC may be a bit surprised. KD has this team on the right track. GO ZIPS!
  5. ...because of the bowls and their respective committees.
I've been thinking about this subject a lot lately and I thought of a system that still uses the bowls, but as playoff games. You could have each game in a 32 team playoff be a bowl game. The first round would be the least watched bowls in recent years, then you get better and better bowls until you get to the Championship game. You would still have the BCS, but it wouldn't be automatic conferences. At the end of the season, the top like 4 conferences with the best strength of schedule and winning percentage would have their top team or 2 get a first round bye. That way everyone has a chance in this playoff.I just thought of this, so I'm not saying it's good or it would work, but something needs to be done.
  6. lilroodude...I hope you aren't being serious that you would have great anticipation about the outcome of a possible Zeke vs. Thabeet matchup next year...if we would miraculously be playing in the Big East. It's sure fun to think about things in a funny sense like that, but what would you realistically expect would happen if we sent this kid who only averages about 10 pts. and 10 rebs. per game in high school out on the floor to face up against possibly the best center in college basketball twice next year in conference play? I'm just trying to be careful not to place an all-american label on this kid (or even an all-mac label for that matter) before he even shows up on campus, and has some time to develop.
No, I wasn't really serious. I was just thinking it would be cool. I really don't think we deserve to be in the Big East either. However, the MAC isn't doing us any favors. GP1 is right, but why not fix that a bit by playing good teams on the road first? If they want to play against better competition, then I think we need to start playing better teams on the road. Dambrot has a point with wanting the home and away, but you have to prove something. You get your name out there by playing good teams close on the road. Look at Miami (OH), they've played a few good teams close on the road.
  7. Should be a good game tonight. And to think we almost had them  Cincinnati, Virginia Tech both chasing history at Orange Bowlhttp://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianp...cKCCDdisZRtMZXASwitching to Big East conference helped Cincinnati's risehttp://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/conten...ebowl_1230.html
Switching to the BE would be fantastic for our football program (and maybe some of our other programs also), but could be difficult for basketball.
Hasheen Thabeet (UConn center) against Zeke Marshall would be great to see next year twice. I would LOVE to join the Big East. It would help every program we have.
  8. We at least should go 1-2 on this road trip, but could go 2-3 or even 3-3, depending on if we have our A game each game. I don't know wut to expect from the Zips in Rhode Island, but in Miami, we should be pumped for our first conference game. UNC should be a W, but we need to be excited.

  9. I gave Buffalo the edge over Miami due to their near upset of #2 UConn. Miami hasn't given any big boy a run like that thus far...which is rare, because they usually pull off at least one noteworthy upset every basketball season.
Actually Miami has given UCLA, who was at the time in the top 5, a game losing only by 5. I remember that and the 5 were all like free throws. Losing to Xavier by 7 isn't bad either. I bet some of those points were free throws too. But nontheless, I do believe almost upsetting UConn is better. I think either way, they are the top 2 teams, with Can't and Akron right behind tied at 3. I don't think we've even begun to see wut the MAC East can do this year though.
