  1. lol, those big Polynesian type guys who have lots of syllables in their names which also almost always end in "...oa" are usually offensive linemen, no?*ducks away thunderbolts from stereotype gods*
  2. Cribbs is a hell of an athlete. I can't hate on Cribbs just because he made the mistake of going to Can't. lol He has earned my respect. He's not having as good a season this year, but whenever I see him return or go on return coverage, it still amazes me that he was a QB.All that said, I started Hixon on my fantasy team this week and he did NOT disappoint. :DI'm not sure if anyone even has Cribbs on their roster, because he mostly just does returns.
  3. Theoretically speaking, most people would think of akron as a part of the N.E.O. media ,market, which is not small either. However, in actually, UA doesn't even get strong coverage in akron let alone much in N.E.O.You watch.... if UA ever wins a championship, talking heads all over N.E.Ohio will be saying "I've been covering these guys for years...."
  4. I watched two measurements in a row where the first down marker was clearly on say the 42 and half yard line, and when they brought it out to the ball it was miraculously on the 42. How do you lose half a yard when you bring out the sticks? I was watching as an impartial fan, but the way the refs called the game last night felt to me as if there is a mandate by the MAC to give Ball State as much benefit of the doubt (cough cheat for them cough) as possible to maintain the national ranking.I noticed the exact same stuff, and just like you, this time my sense of injustice ran deeper, because I knew I was observing without personal bias. The spots were blatant. One time, not only was the spot off by more than 4 feet, but the ref also had to NOT stretch the chains in order to give Balls State the first down.
  5. lol, you really push the sarcasm envelope on this.
  6. ... and I said I would make it out to a game this year and I failed. :(The problem isn't that we aren't behind these guys and proud of their success, but it just seems like there is one component missing, and that is the fact that it gets very little national attention when you do well. Look, when I go onto the foxsports website, there is a tab for NCAA football and basketball, but there is only a generic tab for Soccer but it doesn't include college scores and news. It's a shame, but it just doesn't feel like there is as much at stake because soccer doesn't get as much coverage.
  7. bleh....they made a whole thread that turned into a self-centric conversation quixotic about why we aren't taking their fans seriously. Psh! Are they serious? WTH do they have to do with anything?it's boorish
  8. The filter probably wont tamper with a URL bbcodeLINKnevermind... it sure does...
  9. That's not cool at all.Not to mention the fact that only 4 busses were needed in the first place.Wont be a problem next year though
  10. I used to think I was a reagan conservative, but i have since lost most of my naivety and realized that "conservative" does not mean smaller government and lower taxes. Those are things that republicans tell you to bring you under their tent. Smaller government, lower taxes, more liberties, and less intrusion are basic precepts of Libertarians. The republican party may rebound some, but depends on two things1) If Obama and the democrat congress deliver on their promises to tax, spend, and socialize government even more2) If the next wave of republicans actually do a better job of pretending to harbor libertarian concepts like the 1994 republican wave did in congress (they nearly passed a balanced budget amendment... wow, that would have been the real deal).Personally, I don't think those two things will happen. I suspect Obama will move to the center when in office like Clinton did in order to get re-elected... and I don't think republicans will don the stripes of small govt and instead will continue to pander to the hand-out hungry masses. So, in conclusion, I expect a Miami rebound is more likely
  11. Looks like they rigged up some penthouse HVAC units, up top.I wonder how far way they are from doing walls
  12. I sorta agree with GP1. Toledo isn't a HS JV team. You can't expect decent players with pride and experience to just lay down and let you run the tables on them for 60 minutes. They are obviously going to have some fight in them and make a few things happen. It wouldn't be a game if they didn't show up to play. You never let up (unless you are winning by 50+ in the fourth quarter) against a real opponent, but you have to remember that they're not going to let up against you.I dunno about you guys, but I'm in a great mood this morning. I almost didn't mind going to work. LOL Thanx 2 da Zipz
  13. It just says that a bowl must fill. It doesn't say that it must take a 7-5 over a 6-6.
  14. Isn't that why they're there? I heard (somewhere) that the structural integrity at that end of the bowl wasn't sufficient to support the weight of a full crowd. Anyone know about this?Yep, that why they're covered. That area which has been in bad shape for years, is not safe.Is there even a "structure" there?I had always assumed that it was only the east (airport) side of the stadium that had structure... the remainder of it was resting on solid ground.
  15. I remember when we were talking about this stadium on here even before we knew where it was going to go or whether it was a done deal.I think big time props have to go the the planners of this thing. They did almost every aspect of this project right.1) They created a beautiful design that tied into campus with brick facade. It doesn't look like a cheap amusement park structure.2) The location is perfect... on campus, and next to the practice facility and near two highways.3) They created classrooms and other ways so that the facility didn't end up being dead real estate except 6 times per year.4) The tower! It didn't have to be this big, but not only does it look impressive (and adds a bit of intimidating home field advantage) but it will be visible for miles around (depending on terrain). There is no way to ignore this thing. The only thing that I think most of us would have liked is a slightly more enclosed feel. Perhaps not a boring generic bowl design, but atleast something that harkened more to a big time venue... but it's understandable that to add in this aspect without spending a lot more money is practically impossible
  16. Which game I go to will be decided by whether we beat Toledo on Wednesday. Win and I'll be at the Bowl. Lose, and I'll go to the JAR to support a real team with a real coach.fake coaches don't win enough :rolleyes:BTW, the blimp was on the cam but I didn't get a screen cap in time...
  17. So could they drop a grandstand on top of that thing if necessity calls for more seating?I was thinking about that a couple weeks ago when they started to clear out for footers in that endzone structure.... that hopefully they are going to pour larger parts to bare loads above for bleachers if ever necessary. I'm sure they thought of it, but what I am not sure of is whether they wanted to add the expense for the structural improvements now for an "if" that might come up later
  18. Again, you brought it up....When it comes to having a little class, it doesn't matter what site you are on.All I am saying is that it's a context thing.Yes there may infact be a few people with some genuine vitriol toward OSU, but for the most part, the words are more of a jab. It's the difference between me giving you an elbow nudge in the ribs and with a hint of a chuckle saying that "the suckeyes toss" compared to furling my brow and pointing my finger in your face and shouting "DIE SUCKEYE". Completely different context. Sure, neither one are complimentary nor the height of classiness, but then again, I think of this forum more like a sports bar than I do it being the smoking room in the oxford yacht club..
  19. LOL don't get too sensitive Buckzip. PPL here say "suckeyes" like they say "sweaters" and "flushes". This was a good thread. Though I think we veered a bit off the main topic, which was whether OSU losses help us.I tend to think it would a little bit, but not a lot. Less in the recruiting side. I tend to agree with those who say that OSU lost recruits would go to other BCS teams. It helps a bit more on the attention side of things, and even that probably not much. Once OSU loses a few games, the sports staff at all the media offices shake their heads a bit as if to finally cast off the dazed spell they were under and realize "Oh, there are other teams to cover... I wonder if I should". But what it really comes down to is having success on the field, and even then, you can't expect anonymous people to congregate at the coffee station and start talking about the zips. What happens is a grassroots growth that takes years... students going to games, building a relationship with the teams, and taking that with them.
  20. puttin' it all together to roll through the post season
  21. I think you have confused band-wagoners with front-runners.It's the front runners who get on board and associate themselves with a winner. These are the most insecure people in all of fan-dom. They actually need things like this to make themselves feel good in the social world. "Look, I'm a buckeyes fan. Buckeyes won again this weekend. I am great"Those are the people who will pretend they were never "fans" as soon as the loses start happening. The bandwagon people actually think they are fans. Because of this, their delusions about being a true fan continues through a few hard times as long as they believe the team will be good again soon. Don't expect the band-wagon people to burn their buckeyes apparel. Just don't expect them to wear it after a loss, or during a bad stretch. But they will pull it back out again after a few wins.I agree with Blue & Gold. I think we are not only unrealistic, but we look like babies, when we go around expecting people to become zips fans exclusively and we complain when they have a mind of their own. In someways, with all the things (in the media) working against the zips, we should just be happy to get new fans at all, even if they root for everyone else in the world (except Can't, lol) and guess what, some of them will be front-runners (when we win) and band-wagonners.
  22. It's an odd catch22, like the 16yo kid whose parents tell him to get a job if he wants to buy a car, but the kid replies that he must have a car to get a job.... the university may not be able to throw enough money at new campus living because of how much they have invested and borrowed toward campus improvements, yet if they had not spend so much on campus improvements, the demand for campus living might not be there.
  23. I don't know how you can discuss coaching stability and only focus on the head coach. It seems to me that every year, during the off season, we hear about one or two of our coaches being lured away to other programs, and most of the time, you hear nothing but praise for them and how difficult it can be to find someone with their qualities and qualifications. So, I'm not suggesting that the people that we have had to bring in for the various coaching positions during the JD era have been any less than those whom they have replaced, but of course, that's not the topic, is it? The question is, how much would coaching stability bring to the program? Even if JD is still here for a certain amount of time, how much of a step back is it to have a constant transition from the coaches who have specialized responsibilities?
  24. maybe we should do it to the zips thenI was going to ask this question as new thread, but this seems as good a thread as any to chime in. Does the NCAA require/mandate that the home team wear dark jerseys? If not, why don't we go with the white jerseys for the upcoming home games? They seem to be working out pretty well on the road this year.haha, I actually mean that maybe we should do a lookalike contest on zips, if everytime we did one to another team they won their game.
  25. maybe we should do it to the zips then
