  1. ah okay... I just thought it sorta fit that definition posted: "(Akroned - verb. Losing a game on an incredibly unexplainable, freakish play during the final seconds against Akron)"
  2. Did you mention the missed (relatively close range) field-goal by Can't in 2nd overtime?
  3. WTF, he was stalking him and then threw a shoulder!Even if he had not thrown the final shoulder, it was obvious that he was attempting to take position in front of the QB with intent to obstruct his path... and then when it looked like the QB might slip by him, he then lunged up and at him and threw his shoulder. I don't know how anyone can defend that action with a straight face
  4. I have heard different people in cleveland media talk about this. They didn't seem overly excited when they talked, BUT just the fact that they are talking about it is a curious thing...Last night I was driving and Mark Schuab was talking about University of Cleveland getting football, and talked about how there was so much local football talent to tap.I don't think these people even gave UA a mention when it beat NCstate. Akron doesn't exist to the Cleveland media and it never will, so I think we have to get it out of our heads that we can somehow tap into the entire NEOhio market. The mere rumblings of CSU getting football and garnering chatter is proof that the Ohio Turnpike is the mason-dixon line as far as cleveland is concerned.
  5. And this is different from college football, how?Maybe you mean the (non-televised) MAC games. woah, I wasn't trying to make a distinction between NFL and college in that regard, but since you brought it up, I am willing to bet that the total average commercial intermission times for pro football is higher than college. The reason I said what I said was that when I was a kid, it wasn't nearly as bad. They slowly increased the number and length of time for advertisements over the years. Sometimes, now, I'd almost swear that the ratio is more ads than football. I'm sure that's not true, but it feels that way. When I am at a sports bar, I don't mind. Lots going on. But at home these ad-time seems tedious. Even when you are at a game, the time between play doesn't seem as bad, because of the people around you and the atmosphere.
  6. I've been a browns fan since I was 9. Even though I find the NFL intolerable anymore (sporadic moments of football dispersed among the constant parade of commercials) watching football and the browns is a lifelong habit.I'm going hope Hixon has a good game but that his team loses.
  7. problem is you don't get time to "warm up" in the pros. it either put up or shut upIt also helps if the you didn't get playing time for teams that suck... but hey, I guess if you are the next joe montana, you make something out of nothing. -_-
  8. Seems like every year we lose a few coaches. That kind of coaching carousel cannot be good. I think I agree, although it has improved since last years screen-fest. OMG, Hii SOULD BE FIYARD!dood, hez onli puttng 10 guyz on teh feyald!loleveryone haitz on the 335 What do you guys want?I hear bill cower is looking for a job?Seriously, can you imagine starting all over next year "rebuilding"?
  9. oh yay.... lets start over again....
  10. It's nice to see someone that takes a loss like this on an even keel and doesn't go overboard with crticism. :rofl:my thoughts exactly.I got home last night and saw this post and all I could think was that any response with emotional moderation will be met with accusations of "homer"....
  11. Interesting some of the things on that list that are OTC.DHEA for example is listed under anabolic steroids. However, if anything, DHEA is a pre-hormone. It gets aramotised and/or broken down into several other hormones, some mundane, some not, but if you loaded up on DHEA, you'd have lots of problems, from the various resulting hormone levels, including bitch-tits from elevated estrogen. I don't think anyone abuses that, because it doesn't work only as an anabolic hormone precursor, and if I'm not mistaken, it's actually two steps away from testosterone, but only one away from estrogen, so why is it under anabolic steroids. But hey, it is a pre-hormone (like andro, but not nearly as specific). The stimulants are what a lot of baseball players were hooked on several years ago. Some of them are OTC like the diet pills and even cold meds, although a lot of those are no longer OTC because of abuse by the general public over the last few years.I could see how an innocent mistake could be made. But honestly, if I was playing ball, I'd check first.
  12. someone who reads the articles :o
  13. I'm kinda curious what this substance is anyway.Usually anything you can buy at GNC is gimmicky crap marketed to young and naive weightlifters, dieters and athletes who will try anything to get an edge.... but they are rarely banned because the don't really give you an unnatural edge at all.Last time I remember something available OTC getting banned was that andro stuff that McGwire took.
  14. I don't know what it was like in the 70s, but even from the 80's everything has changed almost completely. When I was in HS I came to campus several times to visit people. I remember that even though there wasn't any traffic running on it (because of little barricades) you could walk right out of Beirce library on to a city street. And believe it or not, even though it has all changed, after going to bars off of spicer and along exchange, and going to movies in Gardner, it was that (busy happening) urban feel to the campus that caused me to enroll.
  15. I believe I only posted one critical comment, and it was about the situation, not the player.... IE: the mysterious cloak of secrecy over someone who the team was surprisingly not-so-silent about last summer, and suddenly hushed-mouthed and even seemingly deceptive and shifty about as training camp progressed.
  16. Do what I did and vote Libertarian. It is the only party promoting freedom and liberty. I also wrote my own name in for US Senate...chuckled the entire time.LOL, did you actually vote libertarian... because a lot of libertarians are going to vote for Baldwin (constitution party) because of how the libertarian candidate dis'ed Ron Paul. Sorry, I know an admonishment was posted about political discussion here, and I actually agreed with it, but I had to get that in because I think that more and more people are getting disgusted with both political parties in this country.
  17. I predict a good game this week, despite moderate expectations.Jaq has fewer errors than last week and the running game re-emerges.Defense puts in a yeomans effort and looks solid all day.Zips 24 - BG 10
  18. I agree with this. Non UA-related fans won't come to see games just because we're playing who WE see as rivals or good games. Face it, we need to win, and win often. Some of us have a hard time getting up for the last homegame in a 5 win season, AND WE'RE DIEHARDS!Joe 6-pack (god bless palin) isn't gonna give up his Saturday to watch a losing program just because it's a new stadium. We win to put butts in the seats, then they develop a closeness with the program and a disdain for our rivals, THEN they stick with us when we struggle and stick up for us at work when we lose to a strong BCS team down the road.I think that's the formula. For at least the first couple of years at the new stadium, fans will come even if we have a poor team. Don't underestimate the draw that a facility can be. GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZipThat is true, SeeTeeZip, and the new stadium being on campus means more students will show, even if it's not a stellar season.... but I think pdt1420 is also right for the most part.If we could put together a solid couple of seasons, including a bowl appearance, over the next few years, it would cultivate a following that could endure beyond that time period that would not be as likely at the old rubber bowl.
  19. I dont understand what you old people have against the oregon jerseys. Those jerseys are saweet. If UA had a new uniform like that, I guarantee more students would want to come here and become AK Rowdies.back up that guarantee with $$$ for the team to buy the Unis out of your own pockets if the Rowdies don't atleast double.
  20. roflchops
  21. Sports media makes a living beating you. Have you ever watched an ESPN pregame show?1. Control the line of scrimmage. 2.Limit turnovers. 3. Establish a run game. Millions watch it each week. The nice thing about the forum here is that nobody puts a gun to your head and makes you click on a thread entitled "Switching Conferences"We also encourage you to start your own creative and intelligent topics. We are all looking forward to it. lol@calling yourself 'dead horse'anyway, Dr.Z is so right it's not even funny. The problem with the advice you just gave is that it doesn't help them. What they want is to censor topics they disagree with. They could care less about having other intelligent discussions.
  22. Explain to me why we have to win all these things first before we "move on"?Can't we get really good somewhere else just as easy (if not easier) than where we are?I'm not saying we are moving or not, I just don't understand the point of "winning" and THEN moving.Exactly Louisville, Cinci, South Florida, and UConn haven't won jack!! Neither has East Carolina, or Memphis which are the other teams rumored to be going next. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Marshall and Central Florida beat us to the punch and move to the B.E. first.Seriously, I wonder how much of a helpful factor it is when your recruiter can tell a player that you can play in the Big East.
  23. Guys I'm sorry. I don't mean to ride the fence but I agree with both sides. If you have a good receiver you put it near him and hope he makes football plays and athletic plays on the ball. However, that is not best case. One would like a QB to put the ball were the receiver has the best chance to catch it. Forcing your receiver to stop and go up and over the defender, while in his vicinity, certainly is living dangerously. If the defender would have turned to the ball, he would more than likely catch it, break up the play, or even possible receive an offensive interference call since the receiver was all over his back going for the ball. So, since I agree that you should expect your receiver to make plays, you surely cannot rely on that play in and play out.
  24. The part that I can't understand is how an ad like that can get out without someone stopping it.I mean, I suppose I can understand one or maybe two people who lack the ability to recognize absurd level of lame-ness in that music, but what I can't figure out is how no one caught it.I actually re-worked that commercial with different music to demonstrate how the soundtrack can make all the difference, but I couldn't isolate the voice announcer, and I wasn't going to use my voice in it, so I never posted it.I like the idea of a contest. I bet you wouldn't even have to make the prize very big. A lot of people would probably just like to show of their skills and talents, and the pride of having it be used by the university in public would be prize enough.I'd participate just for the fun of it... but obviously access would be needed to media like video, graphics, subject-related stills on the team and stadium, etc.
  25. I don't feel like C-USA is much of an upward move based on the fact that having most of those teams on your regular schedule doesn't do much more for your program in the eyes of the fans and media in our area.... and then you have the expenses of more distant away games. The Big East would make a difference in the perception of the status and quality of opponents, IMHO
