  1. Update from Ives It appears that Nagby, Sarkodie, Valentin, and Nanchoff are all signed and delivered. Mattocks is off the board. Bruin, Hertzog, and MacMath are the others. Kitchen still in negotiations.... stay tuned. Edit: looks like UASoccerChamps beat us both. I think the post was hidden though, because of being a new member. Either way, welcome to the forum!
  2. How is a rail system like this an investment in the state? How does it make Ohio more competitive in the global market? It all sounds good when you say it and type it, but does it really do these things. Only one public transportation system in the United States turns a profit, New York City. Every other transit system loses money and is basically a welfare program. Roads don't "make" money either. They are exclusively paid for with taxes. By your logic, all forms of transportation are welfare programs. They are all in some way subsidized with public money. Even private jets usually (although not always) utilize public airports. Except everyone uses roads daily. About 2% of the population would use trains. And many of those would be once in a lifetime.
  3. Well said. Previously mentioned Stevenson will be in the mix as well. Not to mention Trapp, Gallego, and Yedlin who are coming in as Freshmen and should compete for time. Not only that but recall that Mattocks and Tulloch were both very late adds to last years class. Who knows what Porter has up his sleeve for this year's class. It's definitely not a matter of whether or not we will be good next year... just how good.
  4. +1 to everything you said. Summed up my thoughts exactly. Kitchen is waaaay more ready than Mattocks. If Mattocks leaves I would be shocked.
  5. This is grade A bologna. There is no way that Nano will be offered GA, Mattocks clearly isn't ready, and while I can see Perry getting offered I still don't think it will happen. Zarek still hasn't committed to anything either. This guy is probably as wrong as the "Soccer Insider" last year that said Porter to DCU was a done deal.
  6. No offense (and I know there will be offense taken), but I like soccer and that's why I won't go see the women's team.
  7. I cannot tell you how awesome it would be to have a Zip play in one of the major professional leagues in Europe. They are the best... why would you not want the Zips to play against and with the best?
  8. While I agree about Valentin and Kofi likely leaving I would be surprised if Kitchen is GA. Not that I don't think it's possible, but I would be surprised. Considering TheTank appears to have some inside info I think that's good that Yedlin will be RB for Kofi as opposed to Balogun. We saw how that experiment worked out throughout the year, and it wasn't always pretty. I was not surprised that the only game we lost was one of the ones when Kofi was hurt. Of course this is all meant to be purely speculation and I'm sure at no point does anyone mean offense if someone is left off their list. It's great that we're going to reload with so many talented freshmen that's for sure. Can't wait to see Trapp next year. Perhaps he does take Ampai's spot and Speas moves up top with Mattocks and becomes the creative forward much like Darlington was this year. One point to nitpick with Z.I.P.... I can't see Schmidt getting much PT next year. He played in a couple games this year and didn't show very much. Similar to Balogun, I think he had some chances to play and didn't earn the time and I can't see him getting a shot next year. Again, I could be wrong. But this is what message boards are for, right? Prognostication amongst fans.
  9. Maybe the people shooting the guns should do a better job of doing what the coach tells them to do. I will agree with you, but only because the competitive trigger squeezing folks were so impressed with your knowledge of their sport that they named the small bore competition in your honor. I've gotta say... Zipmeister is quickly becoming one of my favorite posters for his sarcastic wit.
  10. We should stay at least in the top 3 until the winter sports are over due to the fact that only the football "Champ" will get more points than us. Pretty cool to see. If we stay top 10 then the University gets something for it. Well done soccer team.
  11. Ha, I would guess based on political party that Brown has a much better shot at accomplishing this.
  12. Not to take anything away from the National Championship or the celebration surrounding it, but the conversation seemed to be dying down a bit so I figured this would be a good time to start discussing next year's lineup. There will of course be a few holes to fill in the starting lineup. Ampai and Korb will be missed for their leadership and outstanding play on the field. The tricky part (at this point) is figuring out which underclassmen will be lost to the MLS via Generation Adidas contracts. Some projections I have seen have as many as 5 Zips on the list (Link). I think that's very premature on some of those guys. Alternatively there is a tracker up (Link) that shows 3 Zips on the list. I'm inclined to view these as the most likely to come out (Kofi, Darlington, Zarek). That would leave us with 5 positions to reload: Attacking Mid, Center Back, Outside Back (2x) and Forward. Here's how I could see us doing that: F: Mattocks, Genovesi AMFs: Nanchoff, Speas, Caldwell DMF: Kitchen Back 4: Gallego (Freshman), Dagilis, Barson, Balogun I think Speas is more naturally a fit in the MF as opposed to Forward where he often subbed in this year. I think he would be a perfect replacement for Ampai in the Center Attacking Mid role. Genovesi (Redshirt Fr.) has an extremely high fitness rate and has fantastic pace and he and Mattocks would be able to run at the D with great speed. The back 4 is where it gets most interesting since we are losing 3 of them. Gallego is a top 30 recruit, and putting him on the outside would be easier than dropping him right into the middle. Dagilis actually started as a redshirt freshman in the middle and was part of the team that got hosed having to travel to Northwestern. It would be interesting to see if he's still up to it having not been in the action much the last two years. I think that would be a cool story though if he started as a Freshman and again as a Senior, but I digress. Balogun was the one that went in there this year for Kofi when he was hurt, although, in fairness, he didn't impress a lot of people during that time I don't think. I still think he has the ability to play the position, but I wonder if his "tryout" this year hurt his chances a bit. These are my thoughts. Please feel free to post your own! It's great to be a Zip and have to worry about players leaving early because they are so dang good. What Porter has done here is nothing short of amazing. Let's take another College Cup next year!
  13. Awesome. We finish #1 Beat 2 Tied 4 (advanced on PKs) Beat 5 Beat 7 twice Beat 9 Beat 12 Beat 14 Tied 17 Beat 18 Beat 21 Beat 27 Beat 31 Holy crap were we dominant this year!
  14. I'm trying to make a comment or send something to Pluto to let him know to feel free to link to the youtube clip in the article, but my web filter at work is not allowing it. If anyone can comment on that story, please post a link to the video. I can't tell you how awesome that moment was. Glad I can share it with the world!
  15. I might have solved my own problem... apparently Directv has software that I didn't know about that allows you to directly stream from your DVR to your PC. Pretty cool thing actually. I'm surprised I'd never heard of it. Now all I need to do is find some video and audio editing software that will capture what's happening on my screen and I'm good to go. I'll report back on my progress.
  16. I always make my tough career decisions in front of a captive nationwide audience in primetime. And when I do I make sure I make it as hard as possible on the company I'm leaving. I might even name it something that stirs up old memories for them of heartbreaking moments.... And do you also always make your tough career decisions at a Boys and Girls Club, and donate the proceeds to that charity? I am a LeBron supporter, but I thought the "event" ended up not being a good idea. But, I think you're hanging onto the end of a very long limb if you think that he planned the event with the purpose of sticking it to everyone that he could. Just say you don't like that guy. I can believe that. I don't like the guy. Specifically for this "event" that he and his "posse" conjured up. I for one am a huge believer in the free market and being able to play where you want to play, etc. etc. I honestly can care less about the NBA in general and the Cavs in particular. However, the complete lack of class is what sealed the deal for me. I don't like Lebron James. He can tweet about the NCAA Champion Akron soccer team all he wants. I still don't like him.

  18. I would absolutely love this just for record-keeping sake. I've been putting together a folder on my computer full of pictures, video, and whatever else I can get my hands on. Once the game records for me today I will figure out some way to get it to a video file, even if it takes me some time. I'll try to do the same with the Michigan game (I know someone that has the whole game recorded).
  19. Thank you very much! Just set the DVR to record the entire match (I'm assuming this time it will fit in the time allotted) Now, to find that Michigan game... Perry's goal was incredible and I'd like to have that too!
  20. Ok, so I set my DVR for the game, but I failed to add on "additional time" for the potential runover. It stopped recording with about 4:30 left in the game. My question is this: would it be possible for someone technologically inclined to make a video file of the entire game(s) for upload somewhere. I know there might be copyright issues, but I figured it was worth a shot. Would loooove to have both of those games archived in their entirety.
  21. I think this sums up my thoughts on the issue perfectly. As a local, I grew up calling it Akron U. It just flows better in conversation. For example: "Akron U just won the national championship." vs. "The University of Akron just won the national championship." But I avoid it for the reason Blue & Gold mentioned above... No reason to offend anyone.
  22. Im hoping dedicated concessions and bathrooms would be on that list... I do believe bathrooms is part of it. not sure about the concessions part or any other specifics.
  23. No, there will be more improvements done to the stadium by next season. They didn't have time to get them all in at the beginning of the year.
