I find it very interesting that Maryland and UNC moved up to #1 and #2 respectively in the RPI after playing each other in the ACC finals. I'm slightly surprised that we dropped to #4, but still glad the NCAA didn't completely hose us and give us the 5 seed like they did a few years ago when we were on the cusp of a top 4 seed. Overall I'm pretty happy with where we ended up (except for the fact we would have to play Maryland in the Final 4 assuming they make it).

Are there highlights from this game anywhere? I wasn't at a computer until the last few minutes so all I really saw was the Nanchoff PK. Would like to see the goal we gave up as well as Speas' goal.
-
Most importantly at this point though, there is virtually no scenario where we are not a top 4 seed and guaranteed home field all the way to Santa Barbara. Even if we aren't #1 we'll be alright.

Not how you draw it up, but I'll take it.

Bomb scare outside the Polsky building
meatwad replied to ZachTheZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Why did they blow it up? I don't get it. "Well, this clearly isn't a bomb... let's blow it up!" Huh? And what if it was a bomb and they blew it up. Am I the only one that finds that odd? -

Please take your logic elsewhere... it obviously has no place on this thread. -

Soccer 2011 recruiting class
meatwad replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Probably not final. I know Tulloch and Mattocks were very late adds to this year's class. That could of course happen again. To answer your other question, we will definitely be losing some underclassmen early to the MLS which will free up a couple more spots. But also, soccer scholarships aren't like football or basketball in the sense that you have x number to give away and they are all full scholarships. Soccer players are often given partial (half, quarter, etc.) scholarships to play. It's hard to know exactly how many "full" scholarships we are gaining back from the graduating seniors and the players that might be leaving early. -
Zips make SI's Extra Mustard (Columbus State Red Card)
meatwad replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
To be completely honest... that was my first reaction as well. That the kid did a stupid thing by kicking the ball away, but did not MEAN to hit Darlington right in the face. And after seeing the replay (multiple) times, I still believe that to be true. It just doesn't make any sense for him to purposely do that. He would know that a red card is waiting for a play like that in a close game that they would need all the help they can get. Plus if you watch his reaction immediately after doing it, he's almost shocked that it happened. He doesn't have any sort of reaction to the pushing and shoving that is going on around him whatsoever. In my humble opinion, he made a boneheaded mistake, albeit unintentionally, and received the proper penalty. The coach on the other hand is a complete douche. "It could have only been a yellow," might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. -
I'm going to say for polling purposes as long as we don't lose tonight we will remain #1 pretty easily.

I think the owls are in for a treat tonight. My guess is 4-0.

couldnt have said it any better. Anyone who was actually at the game would have seen exactly that. OSU is a DIRTY team. We cry about officials every time we lose (or now, tie). Seriously, lame. Lame, crybabyish, etc. We played like garbage last night. GARBAGE!!! We did not deserve to win. Understand, please that the official had nothing to do with the outcome.
-
Not only that, but I would say the crowd split was 60-40 OSU. The Zips were well represented in those 7,200.
-
I was there. You are exaggerating. The officials had NOTHING to do with us tying last night. OSU got the red card they deserved. Barson's yellow was lame, but it didn't affect anything. Neither OSU goal was a result of a bad call. We scored on a PK that was the right call. Stop exaggerating and pretending they were out to get us because the ref actually had some fun with you after the game. Get over it.

Nailed it.

1) The referees were not even close to the reason that we tied that game. There were some questionable calls, but there were some calls that went against OSU as well that were questionable. I hate whining about the refs because it takes the focus off the real reason we tied that game: 2) We sucked. All the way around we played terrible last night. Zarek made more mistakes last night than I've seen him make in his career. With 20 minutes left and up a man we decided to start passing it around the back instead of actually attacking. I don't know if that came from the coach or if the players just got passive, but it was terrible. Not Akronesque at all. 3) Speaking of Porter, far be it from me to criticize, but there were some questionable decisions here to. With 15 minutes left and the game on the line we send in Thomas Schmitt??? When OSU is scrambling to score a goal, and pressing everyone forward, you kind of want someone up front that if you clear the ball to, they can hold on to it. He couldn't even get to the ball because the defenders were towering over him. I hope CP learned something from last night. I have to believe it was his call to take the foot off the gas at the end of the game. 4) The red card on OSU was amazing. I have no idea what he was thinking, but it was utterly ridiculous. I've never seen anything like it. I have to think that he just blasted the ball and didn't mean to hit Darlington right in the noggin, but that was just plain dumb. 5) It's pretty lame that the shutout streak ended at the hands of the Bucks, but we totally deserved everything we got last night. We certainly didn't earn a win last night.

What happened and why didn't I hear about it on the soccer forum, haha?

That cannot be right. We beat them at Tulsa just last year! Edit: Ah, overall, not current... my bad! Something to shoot for!

I had to check this out, because I remembered it that way too... Sept. 24 52 yards rushing (112 receiving) Dec. 1 270 rushing (0 receiving) Source

Are we really that good?
meatwad replied to Let'sGoZips94's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I get real excited after results like tonight... in fairness I don't think Tulsa was deserving of that #2 ranking. The Rowdies were correct to start the OVERRATED chant. We are putting good teams to shame though. I would have to say that Virginia is probably going to be the team that's closest to us in terms of actual ranking. We'll see if that plays out into a rematch in December. -
OT is "golden goal", which means sudden death. Tulsa wins. Good result for Friday. Probably for the best. The matchup is more exciting on Friday with two undefeated and untieds going at it. Can't wait!!

No OT? Two tens golden goal I believe is still the way ties are decided...
