ZipsNation.org Spotlights Josh Ward

I can tell Josh is a great young man. He oozes grace and positivity. I saw him at Speedway last year. Legit 6'2" & 240 but humble & gentle off the field. Big smile on his face. Opened the door for a lady as they were both coming in. He stooped over & picked something up off the floor for someone who had dropped something. Said thank you to the teller; big smile. Held the door for some guy as he was leaving. I thought, "Damn. What a cool dude." The world could use more Josh Wards. Edit: GREAT article, CK. And I wrote the above before I read the article & was not surprised the first thing you mentioned about Josh was his "PMA!" -

2019-2020 Akron Zips Basketball- Looking Forward

This is my perspective. I can't believe how disgruntled some people already are with Groce when he inherited a team with only two players (like I said before, Olojakapoke doesn't count. Good young man, though). Two players. Groce has had to rebuild literally almost from scratch. Considering everything I think we've been surprisingly competitive. -
Really good article by GT today: ABJ: Veteran receivers could be strength for Zips GT mentions Boogie Knight, Jonah Morris, Nate Stewart & Timothy Scipio, but again, no mention of Andre Williams. GT mentions walk-on Brandon Lee is lightning fast & has even gotten reps with the 1st-Team. Edit: Looks like Brandon Lee is a transfer walk-on from Mount Union.

He did do a nice job of not fouling. Until his senior year, even Zeke was in foul trouble more often than not. -
Looking forward to getting a warrior in the paint.

This has degenerated to silliness.

In this article, GT says something that struck me as odd: What was Arth sharing with potential recruits? Some fans of UA football may bristle at the prospect, but based on the nearly hourlong presentation he gave to them and their families, he views the entire process as a two-way street. Arth said players should ask potential coaches a fundamental question: “How are you going to change my life?” The answer should figure prominently in their decision-making process. Why would GT think "Some fans of UA football may bristle at the prospect," of Arth telling players he views recruiting as a "two-way street?" I don't understand why he'd think that would make us "bristle." Does that idea offend anyone here?

Assistant Coach Matt Futch hired by OCU

ABJ: Chris Livingston, Jonathan King lead Griffins to Division II state semifinal “This is a special time for me,” Buchtel coach Matt Futch said. “I work at the University of Akron, my alma mater, and I am over at Buchtel High School trying to guide our young people where I spent my high school career. This is a special time to be able to put our community in this situation to get behind these guys and now compete for a state title.” I wasn't aware that Big Matt worked at UA. Love keeping guys local & helping shape the community! (E.g., Marques Hayes at East.) Go Zips! -

If his confidence is up I think he could run the point as well as Cheese. But like Cheese, I don't envision him as a natural PG (at this level; he played both PG & 2 Guard in HS). -

PG: LCJ ??? W: Cheese Toles Roscoe W: Utomi Banks Mikal Dawson P: Reece Sayles P: Williams Riak Redshirt: Ali Ali Hopefully in the next couple months we'll find a good solution for backup PG. Losing Cotton last year after already signing the '19 class hurt. Badly. I think Reece & Williams will make immediate impacts. I list them as starters, but it may take till after Christmas. Toles will have to get his D-1 legs, but if/when he does, he's an all-around, versatile player. A bit less athletic (& confident) than Ivey, but a better shooter. Crossing my fingers that over the summer Banks finds his outside shot. He was a good shooter in JUCO (All-American). I'm hoping Mikal Dawson comes in & is that special freshman everyone always wishes for. As everyone here already knows, he scored 1,000 points at Huntington Prep Post-Grad this year. Idk what the level of competition he faced was, but 1000 points in one year is impressive at any level. We're still going after 6'3 lead G Javohn Garcia of Pickerington Central. He was 1st Team All Central Ohio District Division 1 & averaged over 20 PPG. He could be the solution to backup PG (though true freshmen running the point always make me nervous. Lol). Anyway, My twitter bio makes it pretty clear I'm a Zips fan. I subtweeted (I think that's what it's called) him when he tweeted he'd received an offer to Akron. I said something like, "You'd look great in blue & gold! Go Zips!" like I tweet to a lot of the young guys who pick up basketball & football offers. He started following me on twitter. It's a small sample size, but in my limited experience, that's a pretty good sign that he's strongly considering UA. Go Zips!
