It can be tough being an Akron fan. I just watched us lose 1-0 to Maryland in the soccer NC & then hopped on twitter & saw we lost one of our bigger verbal commitments, LB Max Wynn, to Miami (O).

I just hope we're not overly confident. This board has a much different vibe than it did before the 2010 NC game. Futbol is a cruel f-ing game. I'm still sitting here with butterflies in my stomach. Go Zips!

Zeke, by his own admission, didn't really focus on basketball till the summer before his senior year. Someone should have absolutely been busting his butt from the moment he stepped on campus (you can take a horse to water, I suppose). Now he's gonna have to get a real job.

We've lost a couple of recruits. No surprise; to be expected and I totally get it. This will be an "interesting" recruiting year. Quan Easterling flipped to Wisconsin and DeCarleon Townsend flipped to Air Force We should be expecting more de-commits (I’m really keeping my fingers crossed DeeArius Reese doesn't de-commit). I'll post them here and keep the initial Post #1 updated as well. Go Zips!

The posters on Chattanooga Moc Nation are beginning to talk as if Arth is gone. But they're citing a lot of the speculation from ZipsNation. Lol. Not entirely, but mostly. But where there's smoke... Again, I'm going to have to trust LW because in my heart I was hoping for either Kehres or Getsy.

I'm with you on Kehres, '72. I used to work near Alliance and so Mount's football success has been fascinating to me for 2 decades now. I've often wondered (and I mean, basically every year for the past 20 years) how a Kehres would translate to D-1 & UA in particular. Here's a great article from the Baltimore Sun about the kind of disciplined culture Kehres (and his dad) have built at Mount. I'd love to have a disciplined culture like that at UA. If UA hired Kehres he wouldn't have to waste any time assembling a staff. Kehres and all five of his full-time assistant coaches are former Purple Raiders players, and all but one of their coaching interns is a graduate, too. Kehres said that continuity has helped the staff identify and pursue the characteristics they seek in potential recruits.

Though he's only 6'2" Rosco also does a nice job of attacking the basket. He seems like the perfect 6th Man.

Especially when half of our attempts are from 4-feet behind the line.

Because he's a football guy and not like any of those other Zips athletic directors. Because he made a great hire in men's BB. Because it appears he made a great hire in women's BB. Because he made a great hire for baseball. He has more football knowledge in the tip of his d*ck than I do. There comes a point at which I've got to trust him.

A nugget from GT's article on the coaching search. According to those with knowledge of the situation, Bowden may not be done at UA. He could take another assignment to fulfill his contract. That's good to hear. I like Bowden and hope he's still around campus. Former HC Gerry Faust doesn't have any hard feelings after being replaced by Lee Owens and is still on campus just about every day (from what I hear).

Just got home. Okay, really nothing new. GT thinks UA really wanted to make the move last year, but then we went and won the MAC East, so they simply couldn’t after that. GT mentioned the offense has been abysmal. Both GT and Sam Bourquin mentioned Larry Kheres and Mike Jacobs (HC at Norte Dame College) as persons they hope UA considers. I was glad to hear Sam mention Larry Kheres’ name. Sam’s very familiar with UMU athletics so Kheres must not be out of the realm of possibility.

I agree. I don't know the ins & outs of how a national search firm works, but I'm assuming it largely has a lot to do with covering Larry's & UA's backside. I'm sure Larry has already been in contact with his preferred candidates. (Seriously, he's probably been in conversation with his preferred candidate(s) for over a year. Not offering the job but just talking football & offering some hypothetical "winks.") Though, IIRC, the national search firm identified Bowden as a candidate 7 years ago.
