It'd be great if we could get just one marquee P6 home OOC game per year. Not asking for the moon. And it doesn't have to be Duke. Some low-life P6 team would do just fine.

George Thomas on the NIT & on Dambrot turning down USF to stay at Akron. I appreciate GT highlighting the lousiness of the J.A.R. as compared to USF's Sun Dome and calls on the community to do something about it: It’s a worst-kept secret that Rhodes Arena is in need of a significant overhaul or replacement. Word is that behind the scenes there are those working diligently to accomplish that at UA. But the fact that Dambrot is getting offers should surprise no one. A significant part of any program is the facilities it can offer athletes. If the community at large appreciates what Dambrot has accomplished with the Zips, it needs to show support. Thanks, GT!

2017 National Invitation Tournament (NIT)
Blue & Gold replied to GJGood's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
George Thomas discusses the travel to Houston He also discusses KD turning down USF, so I'm going to repost this in the KD thread as well. I like that GT draws attention to the lousy J.A.R. in comparison to USF's Sun Dome & calls for the community to do something about it. -

Akron Zips v Kent State Golden Flashes: The MAC Championship
Blue & Gold replied to NWAkron's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I do love the MAC Tourney, but it only lasts one week & makes the 2+ months of the regular season essentially meaningless Wouldn't it be more fun to get butterflies before every conference game? -
You might be right.

Former Ellet star Braeon Brady is currently in JUCO but has given a verbal to UH.

Dambrot should (and will) be allowed to coach as long as he likes & go out on his own terms. But KD's not getting any younger & should start thinking about a succession plan. The timelines should converge quite nicely to bring Dru Joyce III in as our next head basketball coach

Quite possibly. Big Mike: 6'9" Jayden Sayles: 6'9" (though I wouldn't be surprised if he comes in at 6'10" this summer) Olojakpoke: 6'8" Isaiah Williams: 6'7" Crazy to think about. I really hope we kick our away non-conference schedule up a couple notches.

I think Big Mike is a key to next year's success. It's a shame he was injured and basically totally wasted a year of eligibility & development. We'll be smaller, but more athletic next year with the additions of Eric Parrish (6'6" wing) & Isaiah Williams (6'7" wing/PF). PG: Noah / Antino / TDM 2G: Ivey / Josh W: Utomi / Parrish PF: Williams / Olojakpoke C: Hughes / Sayles I really hope we try to play a more up-tempo game next year. I thought we were a much better team this year when we'd push the ball up the court. IMHO it's always better to try to get a bucket before the defense is set. Gonna be a learning curve next season adapting the offense to the post-Big Dog era.

Those articles are hilariously presumptious. Just because Dambrot is on USF's short list doesn't mean USF is at all interesting to Dambrot.

2018 SF/PF Pete Nance of Revere
Blue & Gold replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
We should be all over Pete like I'm sure we were all over Jayvon Graves. Riiiiiight? ? It's one thing if we lose out on Pete to Florida. But losing out on Jayvon to Buffalo? Let's go KD, show them recruiting chops & sign Pete. -
Welcome to the board! Glad you're chipping in

Following the game I had a very brief text conversation w/ a kid who's a senior in high school who's going to Akron next year. He's learning quickly... Him: "Are you watching the MAC Championship?" Me: "Yeah, I watched it :/" Him: "Seems like that happens every year." Me: "Tell me about it :/" Broken record. Get used to it, bro.

Akron Zips v Kent State Golden Flashes: The MAC Championship
Blue & Gold replied to NWAkron's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
We're tired, unmotivated & going to likely be hitting the road. We're gonna take our last and final L on Tuesday night to be put out of our misery. -
B.I.N.G.O. Winner, winner chicken dinner. And losing Graves to Buffalo is "Yuuuuuuuge. It really is." Graves was exactly... exactly... EXACTLY... the kind of guard Akron's needed for years.

Akron Zips v Kent State Golden Flashes: The MAC Championship
Blue & Gold replied to NWAkron's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Well, K.ent played a very good game. Big Dog was great. Hall's almost as good as Dog. Jaylin Walker had a great game, big props to him. I wish them well; they're representing the conference. The Q was packed; looked great on tv. Zips played like crap... again. We should have lost way more often than we did this year, but we won by the skin of our teeth on a number of occasions. Won't beat good teams that way, though, and K.e.nt is a good team. Again, I'm disappointed, yeah. To be sure. But K.e.nt deserved to win and we did't. -

The 40.8-to-34.6 rebounding edge to KSUcks is worrisome. Gotta want it tonight, Zips! -
Akron Zips v Kent State Golden Flashes: The MAC Championship
Blue & Gold replied to NWAkron's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
KSUcks is hot right now. They've won 8 of their last 9, with their lone loss over that stretch being to the good guys. Let's make them 8-10 w/ 2 losses to the Zippers!
