  1. Great hire! He's another rock star coach! We've now got a few coaches on staff (Coach Bowden, Chuck Amato & Terrell Buckley) that the area high school coaches will be thrilled to become acquainted with. They'll be heading home after a day at school, telling their wives, "Hey honey, guess who I got to meet today...!" (Of course thier wives won't have a clue who they're talking about. ) Welcome aboard, Mr. Amato!
  2. I want to offer my apologies! This team is for real NOW! They beat a TOUGH team by 8 points! I'm surprised Kennishaw State isn't ranked yet with those 3 wins!!! Final Four match-up in March baby! Dude, didn't OU blast Akron twice last year? I had almost forgotten about that. We'll find out in a couple of weeks if that carried over to this year. I'm sure every Zips fan thanked our lucky stars when they got knocked out of the MAC tourney before we would have had to play them. For the first time in a long time we'll have no trouble matching up with OU's athleticism. Quite the contrary, actually. What I'm most anxious (in a good way) to see is Alex Abreu's maturation at PG in his matchup with the magnificent Mr. Cooper.
  3. This post deserves it's own thread. I'm afraid it's going to get buried and lost in here. I'd LOVE for someone with ESPN Insider to recap this article for us!
  4. Bad link. Could you post again? Or at least give us more info? (edit): nevermind. The link is fine. And yes, that is the guy. According to what I've read, it sounds as though he might be a tad lazy, and that his problem is keeping his weight down - quite the opposite of big Zeke. But he's got a ton of raw talent (no pun intended). And you can't coach size, you just thank God for it. (And work your tail off to develop it!)
  5. I'm trying to figure out my new iPad here, so bengentlemifnthisnis screwed up. Akron Beacon Journal Three things I found of interest.1) It is essentially the same contract that iCoach received. That makes sense, I guess.2) This contract is actually not quite as sweet with incentives as that of iCoach. However...3) T-Bow's contract is easier to get out of if other universities recruit T-Bow away (the last thing I want to think about right now).4) Ianello was only the 4th or 5th highest paid coach in the MAC. Not that iCoach deserved a dime for what he did to this university's football program, but none-the-less, I'm surprised LP & the Board of Trustees weren't eager to make UA's coach a more lucrative position. I'm guessing the is a verbal understanding that if Coach Bowden takes the Zips to the top of the MAC, he'll quickly have his contract reworked to reflect his real value, e.g., Caleb Porter. But, long-story-short, it appears as though we were able to land Coach Bowden for a middling MAC football HC's salary.
  6. I love T-bow's enthusiasm! His energy is contagious. He's happy to be in Akron and proud to be at Akron and that is exactly the type of person Akron, as a whole, desperately needs more of - especially from such an influential public figure like the football HC. I was truly demoralized when Paul Winters turned down the job. I saw PW as a "steady-as-she-goes" stabilizing presence that our in-shambles program needed. For a few days it seemed as if no one wanted to be head football coach at Akron, not even a homegrown product, despite the millions of dollars poured into our football facilities. However, with the hiring of coach Bowden, man, is it readily apparent that his personality is probably exactly what this demoralized fan base really needed. PW would never have excited Akron's fan base like Terry already has and like Terry did last night. That's not a shot against PW (I don't get standing ovations as I walk around the JAR either). It's just an appreciation of the effect our new head ball coach brings, and will bring, to the entire university/city/region.
  7. Well, I hate that it would end that way, but the athletes we now have on the team simply run circles around Mr. Green.
  8. Thanks for posting that, mes102. Last night I had a little trouble understanding him. That video does a nice job of showing just how ruckus it was in there for both the basketball team and T-Bow last night. You can tell T-Bow is excited to embrace his HC's role as an important and prominent face of both UA and the Greater-Akron community.
  9. Not to pile on KD, whom I love as a coach and a loyal Akronite, but simply adding to the conversation, IMHO his drawn-up plays coming off of time outs are not usually anything to write home about. However, what a great game last night! I was with a large group of people and, wow, did we ever get our money's worth! Also, @ Districtballer, you guys did not get a cheap victory last night - Alex Abreu looked good. Even when 100% he's not much better than what you saw last night. The first few minutes of the game one could tell he was still feeling his knee out, but then he obviously figured out he felt just fine and he played a really solid game.
  10. I agree. I'm sorry for everyone that AA won't be playing. I don't think we're half as good without him on the floor.
  11. True. They're dividing the conference, not splitting the atom.
  12. +1. Thanks for posting this, mes102.
  13. Associate AD, George Van Horne. Class guy. Thanks, Dr.
  14. TD WMU! Go Broncos! Hmm. 2-point conversion to boot. 8-0 Western.
  15. GVH? Huh? (At the clear risk of a Homer Simpson "Doah!") Who's that?
  16. This seems fair. "Considering the budget," (which I'm sure wasn't much) I'll give it a B-. With, of course, room for improvement. It was obviously not shot in HD, and, IMHO, nowadays, if you don't go HD it's going to look a little amateur-ish. It was pertinent, in that they talked about the VCU game this Thursday and also shared info on AA's very recent knee surgery.
  17. The displeasure w/ TW on ZNO illustrates the power of football. Every other sport pales in comparison. Men's soccer (even with a National Championship) pales in comparison. And yes, even men's basketball. TW utterly destroyed the unprecedented, $65-million, once-in-a-lifetime potential opportunity for momentum the opening of InfoCision Stadium could have given not only Akron football, but the entire university. And now it looks like TW backed into the T-Bow hire. We'll find out more details on Wednesday. I think the uncertainty around TW's decision-making acumen is warranted. However, also illustrating the power of football, I think that if details emerge that TW was, in fact, proactive and instrumental in bringing T-Bow to UA, considering the advancements of other athletic programs under TW's watch, TW might go down as one of the best AD's we've ever had. Ah, the unfathomable power of football.
  18. @ Zips13, Zipmeister was refering to your above post, not to your original thoughts. Just referencing your little typo, "Keener'92 If you think this is way off base, please elaborate..."
  19. Yes, merry Christmas! And a very merry Christmas to you, Mr. Bowden!
  20. Great piece of news to have heading in to VCU. BEST piece of news we could have heading in to VCU Bound to happen eventually. Harney back & Abreu progressing. Were those questions or comments?
  21. And yet another. Ohio.com [Edit]: Actually 2 more, but only one was fatal.
  22. This is true. Listed in another thread were Akron's 3 outstanding coaches in Porter, KD & T-Bow. I'd add Rembielak to that list. What an outstanding lineup of head coaches the Zips have: Caleb Porter - Men's Soccer Keith Dambrot - Men's Basketball Rick Remielak - Baseball Terry Bowden - Football
  23. ABJ article on Ben. Courtesy of Michael Beaven, of course.
